Assetto Corsa Racing Club event
OH, BTW Raul, I´ll never trust you again:cautious:
How you took P19 from me was a really dirty trick:mad:
He said "i´m on the inside" I adjusted my line to not kill him, got unstable and had to catch the car. All while he made it round the outside.
Not cool.

Hi Carsten! Sorry to hear you feel that way... :( I did not try to purposedly "trick you" in any way. That's something I'd abhor seeing my kid do so it's not in my set of values. I will take a look at the replay later on (gotta finish work for tomorrow now) to try to understand the moment from your perspective. From my tired memory I do recall saying that... I had a bit of a better exit ahead of a long right corner (was it the last one?) and I was behind you on the inside but you were still going towards where I was trying to get. I was closing in fast so I quickly switched to the outside line to avoid a possible collision because I didn't know if you heard me since I did not hear you reply on Discord. Once I switched I saw you move back to the outside, where I was, a bit later than expected. There was just enough space for me between your car and the grass so I stayed there because moving again was not an option anymore... that's what I remember. I had a fraction of a second to react so, again, I will take a look at the replay (later on this week) to review the situation more factually. If I incurred in anything you can consider foul play be sure it was in no way on purpose. It's not my thing to do something like that.

From my side, I really enjoyed racing you. I wasn't expecting you'll attack me straight out of the pits so I took a bit of grass to give you space when I saw you on the inside at the kink. I did enjoy the chase afterwards and trading places. I think that, in general, we gave each other plenty of room and a good, fair, scrap... :coffee:

That really doesn't sound like Raul. He's one of the fairest on the grid in wheel to wheel racing and I can't see him deliberately say one thing on Discord then do another to gain a place.

So we did this:

?? AGAIN??

??HOW HARD CAN IT BE??

Not happy with this one.

Wow, take this to a pm mate, no need for caps anger here:(

Disappointing qualifying, got a very low 1.46 early on but couldn't improve on it so p16.

The aforementioned incident with the concrete cones in T1 put me well down the field.

Made a few places back, got past Raul and a 2 second gap and we started to catch a three car train ahead. I made the decision to pit as early as possible and try to make up time and places through driving in clear air. Raul did the same and I maintained a 2 second gap. Mid race I finally found some pace and consistency and started to make up time on the guys ahead.

As everyone started to pit I found my strategy had worked and passed a lot of cars as they were exiting the pits. Raul was not so lucky as most seemed to arrive in t1 at the same time as him.

With a gap I proceeded to catch Bouke and Robert who were scrapping ahead but that came to an end when Ricardo Silva came out of his stop just ahead of me in his Abarth. A mistake a lap later saw me ahead but we then had a great scrap for the last 10 minutes with me faster in the first 2 sectors then watching him charge up behind me in the straight.

He got past a couple of times but I was able to hold the inside of t1 and regain the place. Great racing, Ricardo.

P15 in the end, p7 of the Mazdas.

Great racing, full grid. Thanks for organising, Han.

Thanks to a spider and my wife I had a very enjoyable race. Starting from the pits with a 20s penalty (forgot to press the drive button (again:notworthy:!)) I managed to climb from 29th to 9th. In this race I felt like Max last Sunday with all those overtakes on mostly Mazda's. It's great to have that extra speed on the straight so you can pass just before T1.
But I was surprised that the Abarth was so strong here. I only lost time in the long fast right handler where the understeer was a great disadvantage. Most surprisingly was that I also could gain on Mazda's in the chicane.

Great racing from everyone (except lap1, T1) and thanks for joining all 28 of you!
These grid size forces me to look for tracks with 30+ pitspots. That limits the choices which is good and bad.

Congrats to the podium.
Hope to see you all next week. I had the Arctic Circle Raceway in Norway in mind but it turned out to be a rip of rFactor and I don't know of it's legal. It's not available on RD to download so I have to look for another track unless one of you can give me proof that it's a legal rip.

Taken from the files ui_track, "author": "Tommy Rustad for his original F1-2002 version, Gmilno for GTR version, Der Dumeklemmer for GTL Version, smoss for rFactor Version, Slider916/Cammel/Pain-less for rFactor Version updated, AC Converted by shin956".....Sounds like a complicated history.
Probably consent given by all down the line but how is it possible to find a legal route through the minefield of that lot.
Trouble is, all the best tracks that have been ripped have history like this.

Switching cars produced my best result for a long time. I'd expected the Abarth to be more of a struggle but John's setup seemed to work well. If more people give it a go then we could have a 50:50 split between cars :)

Q2 was a nice bonus and I managed to somehow miss the Abarth bowling alley at T1. The replay shows how close I was to being taken out. Nice to have a bit of good luck for a change.

I then slipped in behind Jason for the race and he made it interesting for a while by going off a few times. However, he was quicker than me so pulled away in the end.

I was keeping and eye on Fulvio and waiting for the inevitable overtake. He seemed to take a while to get through traffic so thought R2 was maybe on. Not to be as he caught me with a few laps to go and the ploughed on to try and catch Jason. But even that gap was too big for Fulvio to close.

I have a few more thoughts on the ping fest at the start of the race. This was one of the largest grids I can remember (29) and it puts a massive strain on the CPU. If some hardware is not up to the task then you get the 100% CPU usage warning and the pinging starts. I had this a few times before I upgraded.

A useful hardware check for me was to run some an AI races and incrementally increase the number of opponents to see when the 100% message started popping up. I think AI is a bit more CPU intensive that number of racers in an online race so you might be able to knock 5 off for a comparison i.e. CPU overload with 20 AI might mean you can cope with 25 online racers.

It's important to do this test per track as tracks vary in implementation and some are worse that others. I found Sebring particularly bad for some reason.

I personally didn't find graphics settings helped much improve the numbers I could race again. It was really down to CPU. So if you can close any background processes - then that might help.

I might be talking tech rubbish and @RasmusP will correct me I'm sure :)

In the end, if I saw a race with a big grid coming up (that was higher than I could cope with) then I'd give it a miss as bad pinging can ruin a lot of peoples race.

Colin,

as another mechanically gifted (not a PC person) I think you have a point there.

My PC is no slouch but I struggled with bad stutter in Quali which improved greatly when I limited FPS to 100 ( usually I can get 150-180 FPS on FHD triples)

So its 5800X3d for all of us or we need to think about limiting the field, because I don´t fancy upgrading again.:(

I have a 5600x, GeForce GTX 1660 Super, SSD and triple low spec monitors that can only run at 60Hz so limited to 60fps. I pretty much run every setting at max. It did seem to stutter a bit last week under the lights at Jeddah - especially at T1 by that fake video screen! I only noticed the stutter when we started the race - so I should have checked beforehand that I could cope but it is difficult to reproduce the same tech conditions you get online,

I have a very low end cpu and had an issue about a month ago but never had an issue in this race. if people how a worse cpu than me i really do fell sorry for them.

good driving colin, i had a couple of offs early on started as usual by over driving the car and made a mistake then decided to just take it easy turns out i also make mistakes doing that so decided to just go flat out again and managed to stay fairly mistake free.

thank you t1 for slowing fulvio down for me, seriously though good racing all and thanks han for organizing as usual.

Same CPU here.

Graphics setting are not important in this setting (I think) because we're running into the CPU limit.

That's why limiting FPS reduced the load and improved stability.

So Han, new test for track evaluation:

does it AI with 45starters?
That looks like a good idea but I have a very different rig and connection so if I don't have any problems (like yesterday) it doesn't guarantee antyhing for others.

As it looks CPU related, maybe have a look what other processes run in the background. I found that once you have used Chrome it keeps to be kinda active.

But @RasmusP is the great expert for this.
