Hey if you get that extra stuff along with the free month that is actually a pretty good deal IMO. With a month you may be able to decide whether it's worth the money or not, then you could possibly go for the year membership which will give you another $60 credit I believe towards getting a bit more stuff.

Still expensive as crap IMO, but I might do that when I get back this weekend to give it a try. I'm going to try and find that link to make sure...

Clicky, that gives you the SR8 and Silverstone free if you continue to use that account. Will also allow you to race in the Solstice and Legends rookie championships too. Works for 1 month, then you will have to renew or just use a different name, email and credit card/paypal and get another free trial :p

So they make you pay monthly and then charge you for EVERYTHING else? You get what? Two cars in for the first what 30 dollars. and a track?

And then to get everythign would be upwards of 200 dollars? Are these people ****ing nuts?

You get the Solstice, Speccy, Legends and 7 tracks. Then you just buy what you want - i haven't bought any of the oval stuff because i doubt i would ever really bother to use it.

after the first try

after some test and trainings, yes iRacing is great, when you are a rookie, with the 4 weeks season, but ,when you start to upgrade your license, then ,you want try something else, but,a 12 weeks season mean you must buy a car,and 9/10 tracks, what mean a season coast more than 120 euros, and that's only for what you need to race, after ,there's the monthly coasts....so i really think that i won't continue after my free month.

Depends on the series you are doing - you also don't have to do each round, you could just buy 1 or 2 tracks and just do those. It is expensive though ;)

It's the double charging that is the most rediculous. Sooo much money, I really hope they start bundling more tracks + cars with subscriptions otherwise I very much doubt I'll be renewing my subscription.

They do offers, 3 tracks/cars = 10% off each, 6 tracks/cars = 20% off each. Problem with that is that you have to buy quite a lot of stuff before you start getting money off = another way of making monies.

Some more news for circle munkies

Nascar and iRacing join forces.

May 16, 2009 -
iRacing.com is proud to announce it's joining forces with NASCAR to create the sanctioning body's first officially licensed and sanctioned online competition division. The fact that iRacing is now a partner in NASCAR-Sanctioned Online Racing is not only a landmark development for the company, it's a tribute to the talent, competitive spirit and sportsmanship of the more than 12,000 members who have joined the iRacing family since 2008.

"Our members are passionate about racing," said John Henry, iRacing's co-founder and chairman. "They love to drive, and they love to compete. And they do it in the context of their overall love for racing in both the physical and virtual worlds. We're pleased that iRacing has been chosen as the home of NASCAR-Sanctioned Online Racing and expect that many of NASCAR's most avid fans will find iRacing's NASCAR-sanctioned series a great way to deepen their connection to and enjoyment of the sport."

The new partnership represents a bit of déjà vu for iRacing co-founder, CEO and CTO Dave Kaemmer whose previous company, Papyrus Design Group, developed several popular NASCAR simulation titles including the ever-popular NASCAR Racing: 2003 Season.

"This is sort of a homecoming for me and several members of the development team," Kaemmer said. "Our NASCAR roots date back to the 1990s. We're thrilled NASCAR shares our vision of internet racing as a new branch of motorsport. With the power of NASCAR behind us, iRacing and our growing global community are about to take another big step forward."

The new partnership was announced this afternoon at Lowe's Motor Speedway during a press conference hosted jointly by NASCAR and iRacing.com, and attended by representatives from many leading media outlets in the motor sports arena. They heard NASCAR officials confirm what iRacing members already know, regardless of the cars or series in which they compete.

"The iRacing product is so realistic that a number of our NASCAR drivers, including Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Brad Keselowski, A.J. Allmendinger, Marcos Ambrose and Colin Braun are already iRacing members," said Blake Davidson, NASCAR managing director of licensed products. "From the beginning these drivers have raved about the incredible accuracy of the cars and the tracks that iRacing has produced and their involvement, along with NASCAR Competition, in the development will make the experience even more authentic."

The fact that NASCAR iRacing will be "authentic NASCAR competition" was underlined by the fact that Robin Pemberton, NASCAR's vice president of competition, was much in evidence at the announcement.

"Over the years, many of our drivers have helped develop their skills by participating in virtual training like iRacing," he said. "It's exciting to now have an online NASCAR-sanctioned series like iRacing that will be entertaining for our fans and help provide them with a greater understanding of what it takes to be a NASCAR race car driver."

Further details on the 2010 NASCAR-sanctioned series will be made available later this year.

V8 Supercars to i Racing
http://www.virtualr.net/iracingcom-australian-v8supercars-coming/#comments

Earlier today, iRacing announced to open a new base of race-hosting servers in Australia and a new partnership with NASCAR driver Marcos Ambrose to promote the simulation down-under.

It seems like that iRacing’s Australia efforts won’t end with a special promo rate for new members as AustralianIT reports that iRacing is currently looking to accquire the Australian V8 Supercar license. That would bring the country’s most important touring car series to the simulation, a perfect match for the deal with Marcos Ambrose who managed to win the series championship in 2003 & 2004.

The V8 Supercar series uses race cars from Ford & Holden, it races on spectacular Australian tracks like Bathurst, Adelaide and Surfers Paradise. A virtual version of the stunning Mount Panorama raceway Bathurst is specifically mentioned as a possibility in the article, alongside other “local tracks”.

Looks like iRacing is working hard on expanding their content portfolio way beyond the United States. Pair that up with the floating IRL rumors and iRacers may be looking into an rather exciting future.

Well that's an interesting announcement. Does that mean that there will be like NASCAR replicate races? There was the announcement but no real info on what it means, although they said that there would be more info later.

The way I understand it is that in 2010 if you run the series you will be racing in an official nascar series just like the real ones but in sim cars.
Well thats what it think it means. But I could be wrong it has happened before.

Gotta be good news for simracing in general though, gonna give it a lot more exposure.

Front page is a new offer for Nascar fans:

Pretty sure it's the exact same promo as the PR-INDY though, hehe. I just got my promo for one free month with the extra content... think I might give it a try :)

I got my free month last night, played for about 2 hours in both the Solstice and the Legends car. In the Solstice I raced Lime Rock, and it seemed more fun than what everyone seems to talk about, haha. It's not an F1, but it has a little pep to it. It definitely was interesting to be able to feel dips and bumps in the road, they definitely have done that well with the laser-scanning.

I actually found the Legends car in the Oval to be rather difficult... probably because I haven't played any Oval sims yet though, as I don't own any Nascar sims and I'm still waiting for my copy of RFactor to arrive. But the course right now is South Boston Speedway and I am consistency .7 or more seconds behind the leader. I'm finding that pretty difficult when you think it should be so easy, haha.

Graphics wise, I have everything turned up and forced AA because the in-game AA setting didn't seem to apply, but I think the game looks pretty nice. Lot's of detail in each car and shadows look great. It's definitely the best looking sim so far.

I have one question though, when I go to the garage I can't change anything... are you supposed to change settings outside the sim or are the Solstice and Legends cars just not able to change any settings?

The rookie cars do not allow setup changes, Im glad you are enjoying your first steps in iRacing. I find the Solstace Ok to drive but wait till you get in a more sporty car without power steering! Soo much better :)

As for the Legend being difficult, Some of the guys live in those servers and they are mighty fast. They do say about oval racing, Its easy to race on an oval, but not so easy being fast on one :)
Once you have progressed to advanced rookie you will be able to drive the advanced Legend (not fixed setups, Higher rev limit) and the new Spec racer Ford. There a bit more fun.

Honestly I remember when I started I was constantly running behind the field just to increase my SR rating.
You need a SR rating of 3.0 to drive the advanced rookie cars so you do feel at times you are just grinding out the races just to improve it.

Stick at the back and follow some cars, What you need to do right now is complete every race you drive in without accidents. (I know its not easy) You then will have 3.0 SR in no time and access to the advanced cars.

Patience is the key, Just ask Roy Stevens. He always chills at the back until he needs to start overtaking, Me, I got for it straight away and usually get tangled up in some sort of accident. :)

Simon makes sense why that rating of mine is frozen. I am always in practice sessions.

Gareth, I'll be the safety car but from the back from now until that rating improves. I really wanna see what the fuss is all about with the bigger guns before I commit to paying every month.
