I have this sneaking suspicion that F1 2014 might go horribly wrong. First you have all the car and regulation changes, then you have the old gen vs. new gen debate. Our group will be a bit fractured if they go either way (both consoles or just next gen). So, I worry about that one. Still, if I can afford it, next gen should be incredible if they get the game right.

OK, I don't know how the whole game is run, but what exactly are you talking about? You have to earn money to buy cars online? that you then race online?
Can you not just race any car online?

I have to admit i hate the whole upgrading crap that forza is based on, it drives me crazy to no end. This game isn't running like that is it?
Basically yes but you can 'loan' cars so if you don't have the time for earning money online you can still race laong with everyone else. I was the same as you but I do see the good points from it and quite like the way it will make you be a bit more careful with your car or else risk running the following race with some damage and an underperforming machine.

If you check Roberts expanation in the first post here it should all make sense:-

There is that concern and I am just hoping that we don't have a backward step from 2013. Next gen is definitely not for me, no matter what they do with it... F1 would be the only title I would be interested in so the huge outlay for the console and a new wheel unit would be completely unjustifiable. You could get a pc for the same price!!

that indycar video around the A1 ring looks a little hooky... is the racing really gonna be like that? so much so that they can't seem to make a big mistake... and little ones go unpunished....

Karl, that's GRID2. I was doing a compare and contrast. The one above it is GRID Autosport. (But you are spot on...GRID2 too was crap).

I'm 100% with you re: Forza and the upgrade crap. (They all drive the same s*itty way anyhow) but this will be different.

First, I too don't like to practice on line either, but there is a place or two where you don't have to race anyone (sort of like challenges against A.I. in each discipline) and you can always just set up a room with a buddy and run a few races (big money for our types since we are so hardcore compared to your average player). Then you can get a car which should only be used in the league races (because mileage degrades performance). So the idea would be to get them one by one. I'll structure the schedule so the cheaper cars are first.

Second, even if you can't afford a car, you can get a loaner. In six of the races, you will be absolutely equal to the other cars. In six of the races, you *may* have a slight disadvantage, but I mean slight, because the upgrades will be restricted to you prize money for just one race (only two tracks per car X 6 cars). And that's assuming your are racing against people who bought the car (and you yourself can buy the car and upgrade it with your race money in between the first and second race, if you get enough time to play online). If we get to the V8 Supercars and they are $1M, then nobody is going to be able to afford them.

Third, buying a car is the only way to put a unique number on it, paint it, tune it more finely, and to have an interest in not bashing it up because you have to spend money to repair it (a first for a game I think). In other words, how do you treat a rental car (the fastest car on the planet)? So if you think about it, some people might actually prefer to run a loaner because they will not have to worry about repairing it and can blast past the likes of those who have purchased a car and are worried about damage, lest they not be able to afford upgrades.

Fourth, you can buy stock used cars if you really want to upgrade them from stock. These should be considerably cheaper.

@Railer Cantrell has created some mock up liveries for our club cars. Which one do you like? I'm partial to the first one.

Just watched those comparison videos, nice one Robert.

In the touring car video do you know what the icons on the bottom left refer to? The bottom one I assume is maybe flashback but what about the one above '9th / balanced' or '10th / balanced'?

Took me a while to figure that one out too. The top bar represents the position of your "teammate" which you have throughout your sinple-player career, as you compete both as a team (which you select based on offers that come with every new level up), and as a solo driver, with standings for both. Some teams are better at certain kinds of driving and some are more balanced. A cool feature is that you can give your teammate orders during the race to either push or defend. Those are what the four bar chunks represent. So, if you are in the final laps and your teammate is second, you definitely want him to defend. Etc.
The graphics underneath that I'm less certain about but I think they represent the type of race and the duration of the race (X5 in endurance would be 8min. X5 = 40 min.).

Hope that helps.

The tenor of this is one of the reasons I think this will be good...

Launch day is almost here!
By Ben Walke @BenWalke · On June 20, 2014
We’re currently less than a week away from launch, something which is quite hard for us to fathom as it seemed like only yesterday we announced GRID Autosport to the world. The past few months have flown by in an automotive shaped blur.

GRID Autosport is now gold around the world, including Japan, and as you read this code is being burned onto discs and subsequently shipped to retailers worldwide. The game is now out of our hands and it’s heading full throttle straight into yours.

As with any game it’s always a nerve-wracking time for us. So much work has been poured into GRID Autosport by everyone involved, we’ve thrown in copious amounts of love, desire and creativity and it’s all with one goal in mind, to create a great racing experience.

It’s a game where we were incredibly ambitious in terms of content, our selection of locations were conquered by our Level Designers, the 80+ cars were fine tuned by our Car Handling Team, our Programmers have worked wonders as they turned lines of code into the magic that holds everything together and then of course there’s you, our Community.

Without you we wouldn’t be here, you’re the ones that play our games, you give us valuable feedback, you tell us when we do good, you even let us know when we could do better (you’re pretty good at that!) But, above all else, you’re here. Many of you have been with us from the days of TOCA and we’re honoured and feel privileged that you’ve chosen to spend so much time playing our games.

Taking our Time, Doing it Right
Game development often hits unexpected problems despite immovable deadlines. For GRID Autosport we reached a significant technical stumbling block with the leaderboards in Time Trial, and had to pull it from the launch version of the game. Don’t worry though (pitchforks back in the shed please!) we’ll be re-instating it as soon as we are able after launch via a free update.

We know how important Time Trial is to you and we share the same sentiment, it’s incredibly important to us too which is why as you read this we’re already hard at work preparing it for arrival. Expect updates on that soon after launch.

Future Content
If you play on PC you’ll have access to the first piece of additional content the moment GRID Autosport launches; an HD texture pack that will increase the visual fidelity of the liveries and car exteriors. We wanted to make the pack optional as the 4K textures included will be a small hit on your performance, so instead of bumping up the minimum specs for everyone we thought we’d leave the decision in your own hands.

Alongside this, we will be supporting GRID Autosport with various bits of downloadable content. It was an area you gave us lots of feedback on in GRID 2 and this feedback has been at the heart of our content plans. While we won’t go into specifics about content just yet what we can say is that DLC will be broken down into two main categories.

Car Packs
Car packs are exactly how you’d imagine, they include new cars for the game and we’ve currently got three of these planned. Integration of the car packs is something that we know is hugely important to you, and through the feedback you’ve given us we’re confident that you won’t have any issues with mismatched compatibility. If you have a car pack and a friend doesn’t, you’ll still be able to race together and more importantly, see each other’s cars.

Mini – Expansions
Again, from the feedback we received we know you don’t like individual tracks being made available for DLC and you also told us that you prefer content that adds to both the single and multiplayer experience, so we’ve done just that for GRID Autosport.

There will be three mini-expansions for GRID Autosport

There will be three mini-expansions for GRID Autosport and each will have a specific ‘theme’ surrounding it. The mini-expansions will each include a selection of new locations, some will include new cars and in some cases new game modes entirely.

Each mini-expansion will also bring with it a brand new addition to the single player experience, so while you’ll be able to take your new content online, you’ll also be able to play it offline.

We’ll have more info on each of the new pieces of content closer to their release. It’s at this time we can confirm that there will be a Season Pass available for both PC and PlayStation 3.

The GRID Autosport adventure is only just beginning and we can’t wait for you to join us, the countdown to race day is on, we’ll see you on the track!
