New Zealand Daylight Savings and RD Oceania

At present the Race07 RD Club Oceania Races start at 11.00GMT which is 11.00pm Sunday night here in New Zealand. From the 28th of September, NZ moves to summer daylight savings GMT +13 hours. This will make race starts at Midnight. I know of a couple of kiwis that find it hard to get to the 11pm starts as it is, and 12am midnight will write them, newer drivers, and maybe some of the current drivers.

There are two options that I propose:

First, and most ideal, move race starts to 9.00GMT.
Result: Will attract more kiwi drivers to the Oceania races & not loose some of the current drivers.

or..

Second, only move back to 10.00GMT and hope to keep the current drivers and maybe attract a few more over time...

One other option is that I start a second Kiwi focused Club Series here at RD. I know of maybe a dozen Kiwi GTR2 drivers that have ordered either GTR Evo or the Expansion already.

Also maybe a slightly shortened pre-race schedule so that helping out the kiwis doesn't make it tight time wise for the Aussies...

Event schedule (GMT time)
Practice: 08:00 GMT, 60 mins (6.00PM Aust Eastern Standard Time) (9.00PM NZ DST)
Qualifying: 09:00 GMT, 10 mins ~4 laps + out lap (7.00PM AEST) (10.00PM NZ DST)
Race: 09:15 GMT, (7.15PM AEST) (10.15PM NZ DST)
Laps: 2 by XX laps

Server settings
Allowed driving aids: Auto clutch/Manual gears
Weather: Dry
Failures: Normal
Start: Standing

Gunthar, I moved this topic here for better discussion among those who need to discuss it.
Our current problem with moving to an earlier time slot is that it becomes too early for our West Australians and South Australians.
However, it won't be long before they go to daylight saving time, so maybe moving to an hour earlier is possible then?? Let's see what they think.

No... the time is the time regardless of the sun. I'll still be half an hour behind the EST race time. But no matter... if more people can race earlier, then so be it. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few :)

I'm a kiwi who is very keen to join in, esp with Evo on pre-order! 11pm starts are too late for me though - 10pm is doable if I'm prepared to hit the coffee hard the next morning at work :p.

I also like Gunthar's suggestion of a Sunday night league - he ran a fairly informal WTCC-based one that we finished (with a chaotic enduro at Crowne Plaza - never invite AI to a series decider!!) a month or so ago that was a blast, although unfortunately numbers fell off after the first few rounds. Would definitely put my hand up to be a part of something similar again, although of course the challenge of finding a time that works for us kiwi's without excluding those who live too far west of us will likely be a problem...

Although I'm a night owl and starting at 11pm NZtime is just ok for me - starting at midnight would probably make it impossible for me to run :-(

I'd love it if it was an hour earlier than it is now - or at least if it stays the same local NZ time after DST starts in Aussie.

It's great being in larger grids, so I would prefer to stay in a combined AU/NZ series rather than an NZ only series.

Cheers - N

Wally, Neil, correct me if I'm not understanding correctly. When NZ and most of Aus go to daylight saving time, can we just keep the same time slot as current. ie. 9.00PM Eastern DST (Race Start), which would be 1 hour earlier in GMT. The only state not moving to DST is QLD so for us QLD'ers the race will be one hour earlier (8PM) but that shouldn't be too much of an issue for QLD'ers.

That would make the start times (for the Race) in local times after DST
Adelaide 8.30PM
Syd/Melb 9.00PM
Brisbane 8.00PM
Perth 7.00PM
Auckland 11.00PM

Qualy would start 30 mins before that.

Do I have this correct, and if so, is this still the best compromise???

I'm the same as Neil (hey Talkie). 11 is good for me but 12 is just pushing it a bit. If you could make it 1030 that would be even better for some NZ drivers I'm sure.:)

p.s. I don't quite understand the registration process..... I cant create a new thread to apply to join the race department until I have 25 posts but I can't post in areas because I am not an approved member?
