RD Membership Status

Just to bring everyone up to date with the recent changes to Racing Club membership.
I hope everyone has read this thread, especially the top post.
http://forum.racedepartment.com/latest-news/6444-read-all-racedepartments-plans-future.html

Initially, all Racing Club members were reset to Trial member, but in the last day or so, most previous RC Members have been upgraded to Premium Member. This includes most of our Aussie and New Zealand members. Those who haven't yet been upgraded are those who have yet to change their forum name to their Real Name. There are still a couple of Aussies yet to do this.

Forum name change

I have asked our Forum Admin to change our Community Name to Australia and New Zealand, since we now a couple of Kiwi's on board.
I hope everyone is ok with it, I'm sure we see NZ as a brother, except when it comes to rugby or cricket of course. :)

It's a little bit of an odd requirement. I mean, look at guys like Imperious and ShamefulManny (just to pick some names out of the hat). We know these guys as those names, maybe for years. Someone commented in the other thread that they have been Moggett for years, and yes, I remember him from the RSC GTL forum from ages ago. I can see the point to try and encourage some respect and accountability in the forums and in-game, and I'm more than happy to play by the rules (I'm just a guest here, after all), but it seems a bit heavy handed. It would be better to judge people by their behaviour, not their name.

Wally, in certain way of course you are completely right, with the right attitude of people like you have, it is absolutely equal what name they have on forum, but there are several others as well, who might feel that with anonymus nickname they can do whatever they want, anyhow, who cares, nobody knows them.

The issue is never with the ones, who want to be recognised by others by their name, let it be real or nickname, but with the ones who want to hide behind thier online nickname personality.

We personally went through on this as well in the past, i was for long time known as Neo[RPM] in several communities, but hopefully by now people also know me as Attila Domján too. :)

Thanks for your comments, others opinion always helps to improve ourselves.

Cheers: Atti

Owned racing games?

Hi all,

Just wanting to get a feel for who owns which racing games here in the Oceania group. Sorry if I leave any out but feel free to post which others you own and use regularly (i.e. I own NetKar Pro, LFS but rarely use them these days so I won't be selecting them for my poll votes).

Race 07, GTL, and rFactor are the only ones I've driven on-line.

I have GTR2 but haven't played it much, mailny only P&G Mod, but I also have Richard Burns Rally which I have a blast on occasionally. It's the best rally game by far.

I've got Race 07, Gtr 2, Gt Legends, also have and play sometimes, Nascar Racing 2003, Richard Burns Rally (Agree. Best rally game by far), and Grand Prix Legends (The grand daddy of them all. Updated and still playable today)

Point penalties

In order to provide an incentive for cleaner racing, we will start up a penalty system (adapted from previous leagues) applied to the points standings for incidents during qualification and race. The aim is not to get all heavy-handed and serious about it, but to hopefully make people think twice and try to race a little more safely.

Qual Penalties

  • 1 point for excessively/unnecessarily holding up or hassling hot lappers on your outlap (i.e. not yielding under a blue flag, or driving too close behind a slower hot lapper on your outlap). In other words, no racing on your outlap.
  • 1 point for unsafe track re-entry after an accident
  • 1 point for unsafe track entry from pit lane
  • 2 points for knocking another car off the track
Race Penalties

  • 1 point for excessively/unnecessarily holding up leaders (i.e. not yielding under a blue flag)
  • 1 point for unsafe track re-entry after an accident
  • 2 points for for weaving excessively to block (you can change direction once only, in time, to have a better entry position for the coming corner.
  • 2 points for driving carelessly & causing a "first corner incident".
  • 3 points for lapped cars punting cars on the lead lap (additional 1 point if they don't redress positions).
  • 4 points for knocking a driver off the track & not redressing positions
Any driver accumulating over 10 penalty points will be suspended for the rest of the season.

We won't go looking for penalties; if you want to lodge a claim for penalties to apply, PM me or Warren with the name of the offending driver and the timestamp in the replay when the incident occurred, and what you think the infringement is.

Again, the point is not to get too serious about it - we're all here to have fun - but to promote better racing.

I presume that is only if you are not on a quick lap and they are? Usually if im on a quick lap and someone catches me i will continue that lap. The same goes for if i catch someone who is slower, i will try and find my own way around them - it should be down to the quicker car to make the pass as otherwise its unfair on those who cannot do the quickest times.

i agree here. if i am on a hot lap and i'm in front i feel i am entitled to the racing line. i assume we are talking about people on out laps holding up hot lappers - can you confirm?

could we also flip this a little too - theres nothing worse when you are on a hot lap being hassled by someone just out the pits too. this should carry a similar penalty.

Yes, I meant people on an outlap holding up hotlappers. The guy on the outlap should be aware of what's coming up behind him and get out of the way. I'll clarify that.

"could we also flip this a little too - theres nothing worse when you are on a hot lap being hassled by someone just out the pits too. this should carry a similar penalty."

That's what I meant by "1 point for unsafe track entry from pit lane"... or did you mean something else?

I reckon that these points systems are great I hope they work and I hope we can implement them?

Hi there... I'm new to this board and not sure how often I could make races given I am in New Zealand, but am really really keen for anything that fits with my work commitments.

I have competed in GTR2, Race07 and a little bit of rFactor. I'm a clean, accurate driver but no Alien.

I've only gotten into simracing seriously in the last 6 months or so after a hiatus of several years... I started out with Revs on the BBC Micro :)

I've only just built a new dedicated Sim racing rig (e8400, 4GB, 8800GT, G25, custom race seat) so I'm all out of equipment excuses :)

Hi Neil,

How did you go about making the button add-on for the G25? Very nice.:thumb: I've been looking for a way to do that myself?

Reads to me like Keith meant that if you are a slower driver starting a hot lap, and one of the faster boys comes hurtling out of pit lane right behind you, then hassles / pushes you the whole way round your lap.

If so, I agree that this should also be penalised ... as courtesy and consideration has to work in both directions.

First qual penalty rule could thus read along the lines of ...

"1 point for excessively/unnecessarily holding up or hassling hot lappers on your outlap (i.e. not yielding under a blue flag, or driving too close behind a slower hot lapper)"

... this would also act as a cover all for any other unfair activity against hot lappers on your outlap.

Yeah, we can. Remember, no one will get penalised unless someone complains.

Yep, I see. I edited the first point to cater for that.
