marco's flickr gallery! shows assetto corsa in all its beauty!!!
Great pic, but I want to let you see one thing.
PIC 001, the one with the Ferrari and McLaren, it's photoshopped or it' real time? I say this because I don't see the Ferrari reflected in the McLaren... Not really a big deal but after the astonishing reflection I saw in the big amount of pic they've released it's the 1st time I saw two car that close and I immediately noticed the "lack" :) of reflections :).

Also, this close racing pic make me wonder, how would the damage model be? I really hope we will see (well, maybe not that much during my races....:) ) some good damage model.
Anyway, it really look gorgeous! I've taken the TP again for a ride yesterday, what a blast every time! The only worst thing is the dual GPU issue but I know it's not their fault.

I agree the car just looks cheep , sure the components and individual aspects are very nice and they are using really nice materials but as a whole it just looks a mess with everything stuck together.

To me cars that are built and designed around raw performance generally look the best just look at the ALMS cars ,prototypes ,70s- 80s f1 cars and those sorts of vehicles.

Still if its fun to drive in real life or a simulator then that's all that really matters.

Well, I'm not a fan of Pagani's interiors too... I prefer more classic things indicating the car is purely design to drive like these:

About the screenshot, great spot I haven't noticed that until you pointed it out :D
I believe it is a proper ingame screenshot, not seeing the reflections is I would assume the same reason you can see the reflection of the track inside in the cockpit (check the McLaren GT3 cockpit screenshots). It looks like it is just the track which will be reflected on every glossy surface at the moment.
It is also like that in the TP and they said they know this and it is on their todo list (If I remember correctly), so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Either way maybe it is better this way (no other car reflections) because of the FPS :D

There will be physical damage but no visual damage in v1.0... Atleast that was the last official word on that matter...

I had already spotted and reported that recently in this forum Dennis, and what you point out in this image might be related to that! Didn't know it was reported previously in TP. Thanks for the info.

Mmm, I hope at least that suspension failed like it was in NetKarPRO at least, I really would like to see a visual damage model, maybe not like this
but something more basic! :)

if i had to make a list with things that are important for me in a sim, starting with those things with the highest priority such as physics, sounds, graphics and so on, visible damage would definitly be the last thing on my list. i can not think of something, that is less important to me in a sim. maybe the possibility to make out with grid girls, but that's the only thing :p of course this is just my personal opinion. i know there are a lot of people who think, visible damage adds some kind of realism. maybe it does, but racing for me is, being the fastest around a track. and crashing is not that fast i believe, so i don't have damage on my radar :) plus think about this scenario: the release of assetto corsa will be delayed by another 6 or so months, because kunos are trying to give us the perfect visible damage model, although virtual crashes will probably never look as anything like the real ones.

oh boy.. this was a long post... i'm just looking for something more interesting than learning for my exams :D

I kind of agree. The damage on cars isn't really a deal breaker for me. If a car gets damaged then normally that means a degraded driving performance to go with it, which is frankly annoying and often unfair. I forget the number of times I have been involved in first corner shunts through no fault of my own in race sims, only to have to struggle for the rest of the race with a hobbled car. Half the time I just quit because I can't be bothered with it since I know there is no chance of a decent result after that.

this is going off topic but here is one sentence and no more: People in well managed racing communities and leagues are mostly experienced, fair, cautious and foresightful enough to avoid "unnecessary" contacts or beginner faults like first corner shunts. Usually track behavior goes also hand in hand with penalties.

Well that's also part of the racing. I really don't believe your racing experience will improve if everybody can wreck you without suffering any damage, every race would be a total chaos. Realistic damage is important, even if it destroys lives races.
(and by realistic damage I don't necessarily mean realistic graphical damages, but degraded driving performances)

Thread derailed definitely, thanks to me I know! :)

Think at a BTCC style racing, touring car in closed pack racing, damage is necessary to avoid the "turn 1 hero!", also it will ad a good sense of immersion, think about the bumper of the cars visibly damaged, or deal with a slightly damaged car for the whole race to get Championship point for the league, this is racing!
Ok, I can live without "visual" damage, but IMHO as Assetto Corsa would be a Racing Simulator there MUST be damage! Then you can make your own server and make some good fun race of 5-10 laps with disabled damage but a proper sim, again, has to have damage. The video I've posted was a wanted exaggeration of a proper "Visual Damaging" I don't pretend to have such a damage, I would like to have it, but I could live with the iRacing visual damage style. :)

visual damage will follow with later updates as far as I know and yes sim racing without damage is not sim racing; got to take the consequences of your mistakes

i think visual damage.. isn't soo unimportend like some say here.. because.. it's abit more then just a graphical gimmick... because.. if you drive behind one which car looks fine,... you don't expect him to drive strange.. if you see the car is damaged you are aware of it and aware of beeing more carefull because something unexpected could happen

visual damage is also a huge selling point for casual racers or people new to sim-racing.

If people crash on-line then servers can just ban them , but its always fun to do stupid things off line I remember when I first played F1 2002 we would try and crash all the cars out of the grid just for fun.

For real racing I think having a crumple of the bonnet cracks in glass and subtle damage really to sell the immersion/believability of a driving simulator.

Big accidental crashes are a component of real races and its quite thrilling avoiding a huge pileup and parts of crashed cars. Obviously constant crashes are not desirable but crashing and avoiding crashes is a legitimate part of real racing.

Finaly from an E-sports perspective having semi realistic damage and crashes helps make Simracing a more enjoyable spectator event.
