 details details details...

Is it my eyes or is the driver really tall? ;)

I got this feeling when watching the video featuring the Lotus 49.
For comparison

Also the last profile picture featuring the black BMW e30 shows a driver that is much taller than his driving seat.

So they don't have a SpeedTree set up hehe.

No bad thing, their trees look great!

I wonder how they are dealing with trees that you can get quite close to though... partial 3D (like that one in the foreground?!), or just really nice 2D X tree textures... hmmmm...

All good though :D

I hate to nitpick but here goes... :p

I just noticed both the helmet and the chromed parts are reflecting the track only, my guess is that they have cubemaps instead of real time reflections, maybe that's why chromed parts look so shiny all the time.

It is a shortcoming in many games and does hurt realism.

Simply rendering a static interior HDR envmap with alpha masking exterior would work ok. Mix at right exposure, relatively low cost...

Generally these things are small and distort reflections a lot so details are not important. They can be small. Blend MIPS for softer reflecting materials.

Worst case you could just render an appropriate map at runtime and use throughout. Not perfect as its static but a better compromise than having materials reflecting the sky *inside* a car hehe!

Tons of solutions and IMO its a detail that stands out like a sore thumb sometimes!

Even some clever fudge fixes you can do if you think a bit outside the box :)

All that aside its still VERY pretty looking and nice quality overall. Nitpicking aside hehe.

Yeah I like how AC looks, but I'm an admittedly graphics whore:p, so these little things end up sticking out to me, but I guess it's the kind of thing that even if not fixed by devs it will end up fixed by modders, or so I hope. :roflmao: I know I put a lot of blind faith on modders but I've seen incredible things being done by them over the years, my only actual fear about AC is of modders not picking it up, but I'm sure I shouldn't worry since there seems to be a good amount of interest for AC, though it seems some people are "on hold" about AC until they see the modding tools, and thus it's possibilities.

March can't come soon enough... :coffee:

As I'm never going to see the exterior of the helmet or the doorhandle (I will be looking out the windscreen), neither of those things sound even halfway relevant to me, tbh.

They won't be an issue at game time, so I don't really care about them in the shots here.

Each to their own priorities I suppose.

I get where you are coming from, but then why bother with half the details on these cars?

Everyone will get something different from the content.

For me realism helps immersion, and when something stands out and looks a bit wrong, it helps break the illusion.

If we didn't challenge our expectations we'd still be driving stuff like Outrun on the C64 hehe!

Well I guess it's like the grass deal, it was "fine" before, but someone pointed out how it was not right and now it's better. They may be little "unnoticeable" details but they add up in the end. And I agree with Whippy on this "If we didn't challenge our expectations we'd still be driving stuff like Outrun on the C64 hehe!", the sim community has a long history of "not caring" about graphics at all, I'm not sure how it ended up this way, maybe because sim devs were never good at making things look good and then sim players simply got used to things being this way, I dunno. Fortunately, newer sims like AC and pCARS are changing this, if you look at pCARS's number of supporters you can tell it's popularity is skyrocketing, and I can tell you it's probably because of the pretty graphics(and the ungodly amount of pics and videos that keep popping up lol). An important aspect of this is that graphics sell, I'm pretty sure this is the reason Kunos even bothered to make the game look good as they said they are trying to bring in new people to sim racing with AC. And don't get me wrong, I'm quite happy with how AC is shaping up, but if something can be improved, then why not? :)

Totally agree with Mr Whippy.
A game with great graphics and only good physics can feel a lot more realistic than a game with bad graphics and absolutely fantastic physics. It just draws you in and gives you the feeling of being there. I'm glad that games like pCARS and Assetto Corsa are pushing the graphics for PC sims to a new level.
