Yes, I am serious!
Are you a little too serious? ;)

Don't you want the game released ASAP?
They said the game was coming out "Summer 2013".

July 4th is the real start of summer for me & I get a 4 day weekend!
It is still rainy & crappy June 21, but things really heat up 2 weeks later...

Let's go have a beer & lighten up while we wait, eh? :D

New interview with Stefano in mysimrig!
He says that servers will be classic lobbys that u will join and it will have a "book" system that it will not allow u joining a race in progress...
Something like iracing that u know how many people will join?
Seems cool, thinking that we have in general a problem in online in most sims

I hope they have it as an option rather than something that's 100% enforced.

In the end it all depends on how servers are set up , It would be nice if for the AC server client Kunos had some well designed defaults to chose from.

Its always been the case with LFS , RF1 ,RF2,GTRE ( probably all simulators) that most the servers are set up shockingly bad with race length , qualify set to absurdly long times especially for a public casual server and voting tolerances are generally ridiculously high so no votes can ever pass.

As an idea why not have some sort of server default settings to pick from in the server tools maybe a drop down box for some obvious modes for example.

"casual server" 5 lap race , Reverse grid from last race , All core tracks , all cars , Vote to restart tollerance 40% ,Damage low , Vote kick 60% , all assists allowed

"Sprint server" - 5 lap race , Grid based on last race , All core tracks , cars in same class , vote to restart tolerance 40% , Damage low , vote kick 60%

"Standard race server" - 10 lap race , 5 min qualify , All core tracks , Cars in same class , Vote to restart tolerance 80% , Damage full , Vote kick %50

"Long race server" - 30 laps , 15 min qualify , All core tracks , Cars in same class , Vote to restart tolerance 90% , Damage Full , Vote kick 60%

Also maybe have a server list icon for servers that run these defaults so the end user can instantly identify a specific type of server and racing making it less hit or miss as to what you will get when you race on-line.

Obviously I just throw those out but you get the idea , people that want specific custom servers will obviously still set them up how they like. But what I am talking about is simply having some basic servers that match the quality of say LFS's Redline racing servers , or Bro's megane trophy server for RF1 . But as a pre set server option so any joe can just get a server up and running that's of a basic quality level or represents a consistent type of play without having to faff around or be knowledgeable as to what makes a server generally good or not.

These sort of sprint servers are perfect for those of us that come back from work mid week and just have an hour or so to have a quick jump in race and don't want to spend ages going through servers.

The weekend is good for league races and full events and things like i racing , but If Kunos could do something like the above then I think they would find the multi-player far more active and it would wipe the floor with RF1, RF2, LFS, and also offer something i racing never could.

I'm always surprised how Simulator studios seem to do an excellent job implementing incredible things , physics graphics and technology that I doubt I could ever get my mind around, but then at the same time often seem to miss massive opportunities by not implementing seemingly basic things that take a relatively small amount of work and are generally low risk on the development side.

Mind you The AC TD looked awesome and you can see kunos have put allot of work into the interface and the app system so I think kunos are far more on the ball than other developers in this regard and who knows what they will have implemented for the first public version of the game.

Yep, I agree. So many servers in past games have been set up horribly. For example, 60 min qualifying for a 5 lap race? And the kick votes that never get passed because it requires 80% of the server to click to agree. Obviously it depends on the game and the track and so on, but for me, 20-30 min quali was best, with a 10-15 lap race, certainly for public servers.

The only reason I'm not playing NKpro anymore is because of poor multiplayer service. Proper racing with low latency and good race setups seemed just impossible to find. If AC's inherits of that mess I'll be a very sad panda.

But what about this :
- what if we could rent high speed race servers via Kunos for a few bucks/month
- setting it up to start qualifs and races every hour or so (qualifs not mandatory) - iracing style
- a subforum would be created for each of these servers on the official AC's site
- leaderboards for each server + the possibility to organize events and season championships

I'd be willing to pay for such a service ...

Ya'll know this isn't iracing, right? You can set up a room however you want anytime you want. If you want an always on-line server that races every hour you will have to rent a dedicated server and they can be pretty expensive for one person.

No one made the claim it was..

The point is when you have user hosted servers there is a tendency for most of them to be set up very badly , not just in the sense that server X doesn't match user Y's preference but that the host simply didn't have the time or knowledge to set things up to a basic level. (People that do have the time and knowledge tend to set up locked servers for there league / group of friends or with very specific settings to there needs)

What I was proposing as a "good idea" , was to simply have some default server configurations that can be selected maybe with an explanation for each one , this has a couple of benefits.

1) people that just want to get a server up and want something that's ok and not a fuss to set-up can just select one that fits what they were looking for and have it up and running right away.

2) Users looking for servers will be able to find some common "default" type servers and know what they are are getting when they join the server , making it faster and easer to get driving.

3) Anyone can obviously still set up servers however they want.

4) Users wanting to set up a quick server with friends can just select a default make a few small adjustments and be up and running very quickly , with a far grater likely-hood that public users would join and stay.

Also managed to improve performances on the physics side, now 20 AI cars are possible, hopefully we'll get to 25ish for release.
that's good to know, presumably he means AI Physics as I've read that if AI have the same physics as the Human cars then you'd need a super computer to have just 10 AI. Could be wrong though so we'll have to wait and see. Just hope the AI are at least good from the start.

AI uses same physics as human player
