Career mode doesn't bother me, might actually be an interesting diversion depending on how it's done. If I don't like it I won't use it - it's not going to impact the core physics and simulation so why all the fuss about it's proposed inclusion. My only worry is how it would coexist with the modability side of things, but then again it might make it easier to include series/championship mods?

From what I can tell, they've had an explosion of interest from within the games industry and have probably been bombarded with 'helpful' advice and suggestions, and they may have had a bit of sensory overload and probably had the carrot of a potentially massive increased user base if they include this, that and the next thing. I would only offer to Kunos that they be careful that they don't dilute the original plan they had for the game too much. It was a good plan, a simple plan, it was neat, tidy and concise - core sim with additional features such as pitstops, night, weather, etc added as time goes on. I trust them to keep their head screwed on though, and make the right decisions.

If nothing else they've been self-financing the game, so they will have to release at some point before they totally run out of cash. Also, there's only so long that you can have staff working 12-14 hours a day, 7 days a week before that really starts to take its toll on health and family life, and I suspect they're probably already at that point. Again, another reason for them personally to get the game out and start reaping the rewards. For thos worrying about the game slipping into 2014, I did note some tweets that Stefano would keel over if he was still working on the game in September, and would commit suicide if it slipped into 2014, and I can't imagine part of their development plan being for Stefano to take his toaster into the bath next January...

But like I said earlier, it would be good to keep the channels open to the fans, especially with regards to release dates. here must be thousands watching developments very closely by now, and I've lost count of how many people I've read saying they've never been so excited by a piece of software, ever. I include myself in that too ;)

Unbelievable how egocentrist some people think.

1. You don't have to use the careermode if you want to race online.
2. You don't have to use the careermode if you want to jump in to a specific car.. very unlikely AC will limit the cars you can drive because of the careermode
3. How can you be upset with the addition of this feature, if you know that this feature will attract the more casual gamer and bring in much more revenue for AC = more money for the development of AC.

All I see is people wanting Kunos Simulazioni to make 'their perfect' sim. Wake up call, that will never happen.

Be happy that AC is amazing in the physics, graphics and hopefully multiplayer department.

I like it.
A proper carer mode could also be something like iRacing has.
(irating, safety rating, a- b- bla bla- lizense)
I don't really expect that. Definitely not without charging to cover server costs.

I'm expecting something more like Forza, just a series of loosely tied together events to give drivers incentive to race something outside their comfort zone. Or, just give users a suggestion on what to race. Not everyone can pick for themselves.

I'm not against career at all either.. Only thing is that the wait has already been so agonising and long. :D This will most probably push it later again.

I'd rather have a core game with less content earlier and then career+some other stuff later as free DLC.

I love the idea of slowly discovering all the CARS in AC.

It's so tempting to jump straightaway into the F40 or the Lotus, but it's much more fun if you make it rewarding for yourself.

Imagine that you have to start with a slower car.. the KTM or the Elise, put the AI on a pretty hard level and you know you really have to win your last race in the championship to move up to a nicer car...

When you worked your way up from the Elise to the BMW 3 series, to the F430 and finally the Lotus 49, or the F1 car (if it is there..), must feel so rewarding and fun! (If the AI is any good...)

Could finally be some interesting offline simracing for me again. I quit offline simracing in GTR1 I think ;).

Major speculation... Kunos said they are working with some big names, then I read this - Meanwhile, Hamilton’s Mercedes team are believed to be in talks with former F1 driver Robert Kubica about helping them develop their simulator.

The computer set-up is designed to replicate the movements and performance of the team’s race car.
You never know ;)

Why would you need to charge for server costs for that?
I'm simply assuming they would only add universal ratings if they were doing race organization.

I remember a quote about them planning to make it possible for the modders to handle that. I expect Kunos won't build anything on their own, but we'll probably see one or more groups hosting their own servers with custom ratings tracking.

Until Kunos actually release some detailed info about the structure of the "career mode" we can only speculate on how it will be delivered. I'm sure that Stefano and the guys at Kunos would of all sat around and put much thought into the design, structure and function of career mode within AC. I would even go as far to say that it may be nothing like any other career mode we have seen in any game released so far.

AC is, for all intent, going to be the benchmark Sim (if the tech preview is anything to go by), so Kunos has already set a high standard, one that they themselves would want to continue, even within the career mode of the sim, and no doubt the AI will also be of the same high standard.

I don't believe Kunos would include a half assed career mode in AC, not when they have put so much time and effort into the development of the game so far, it would be a step in the wrong direction and potentially undo all they have done to date to create and build the potential benchmark sim of the next 5yrs.

I for one, would rather not get bogged down in negative talk about something I know little about at this time, and prefer to show a little trust in the Kunos team, by being positive, having some patience, and wait for the games release. Then, after playing AC, I will be in a better position to judge for myself, like everyone else, whether I like, or dislike "career mode".

Cheers

Just to say, a championship "mode" (already prepared or custom created) like included in rFactor or GP4 is very different from a "career" mode you face for example in GT5 or Shift. The direction and notion are completely different. Either way, doing a "career" or "championship" still includes AI, so the argument about tedious races against AI still persist.
GT5 and Shift are nothing like a drivers career. If there are just single race and championships it's more then enough if done right. The good thing is when you can pick a car and find many races which fits the cars performance. GT4 had events for every manufactor for example, it's not really a strength of GT5 or Shift and also not easy in many online racing games / sims when people prefer a few cars over others.

Its like this latest "news" needs a lot more detailed news, hopefully that comes soon and we know where Kunos are at with AC.

Agreed. Don't think the latest newsflash has done anything more than swap some questions for others. I was hoping that the newsflash was just to keep us quiet and seated until the 'proper' news came out this week, but I think the newsflash may be it for now.

I don't see a problem with a "career mode" to be honest.

It's all a matter of preference, for those "hard core Simmers" who are only interested in online racing and take their Simracing seriously you don't/wont go near career mode, but think about the newbie racer who has never experienced a racesim of AC's caliber, they will not be wanting to jump into an online race with hardcore racers, so I believe what Kunos is doing has massive potential to grow our simracer ranks on a large scale over the next 3 to 5 years. And personally I'd rather see the newbie's learn to race a high level game like AC than some of the other "so called" sims.

The hardcore simracers need to think about the future of our sport of simracing, which is just as much a sport as real racing. We all need to promote our sport to as many new and interested people as possible,
Cheer's

Begrudgingly (very,) I must concede to the logic of your well spoken argument. However, that doesn't take the bitter sting from yet another delay. :(

Hotlapping without a goal can be quite borring sometimes so I think career mode doesn't sound that bad when you don't have much time for racing in leagues or club races. But it's not something I'm craving for.

Creating (individual) championships, just like in rfactor - picking your favorite mod, editing race points contributions, competitors, tracks etc. and go for a replica season - is something I would vote for. I did that several times and it was fun, because all the freedom of editing and modding was still in my own hands.

But a "career" mode seems to be crying for restrictions from all sides and in every way possible. You get something on your plate that has been prepared, chewed for you several times and is ready for you to swallow. That's really dull if you ask me. I mean for example: starting with a kart, racing my way up to the top, how cliché is that?

If you don't want to, you simple don't have to pick the fastest cars straight away. Who would say that you have to do it, I wonder? Take it a step back and start with a slow car, learn the basics and move on when you feel good enough. There is nothing a sim racing newbie could be afraid of.

On a side note: There was a time when I did quasi-championships in sims. I was going for single races against AI and wrote the championship points on a piece of paper - was fun too.

:)
