After a somewhat prolonged hiatus from our screens, KW Studios has dropped the first teaser for a new update for RaceRoom that is being tipped as one of the most important for the sim in years.

UPDATED AUGUST 19, 2024, 08:45 UTC

The last content drop we saw for RaceRoom was in May when the BMW M8, GT4 and M2 CS were introduced to the extensive and varied RaceRoom store. Since that addition, there has been little to no news within the sim, aside from their annual content summer sale.

RaceRoom To Welcome The Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI

It is a safe bet to say that the new car teased in their post is the Alfa 155 V6 TI, a staple of the latter years of the original DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft). This incredible fire-breathing, Italian illustration of engineering masterclass will undoubtedly make the users of RaceRoom fall in love with the Alfa Romeo brand all over again.

With a total of 38 wins in its competitive years, the 155 V6 TI is one of the most successful cars of its era in terms of registered success. It was not just the DTM-spec 155 that was turning heads, the touring car version competing over in Britain, was causing chaos amongst series giants Vauxhall and Ford.

Expected is the 1995-spec car, as this would complement the already present AMG-Mercedes C-Klasse from the same year. But there is still a rather large Opel-shaped hole missing in that 1995 lineup.

RaceRoom To Debut Historic Track

While the full 1995 DTM grid would be excellent to have in RaceRoom, we have argued before that period-correct tracks for the abundance of historic content in the sim would be a welcome addition - racing classic cars on modern circuits just does not hit the same.

It would appear that KW Studios may have read that article - and took the inspiration: Just a day after the Alfa Romeo teaser, another blurred image dropped, this time featuring a rather distinct tower-like building with a Mercedes star on top. Racing fans will immediately know where that building is located - namely in Berlin. We are talking about the AVUS, of course.

Best known for its fearsome 19.279-kilometer (11.980-mile) layout complete with the enormous banked Nordkehre, also known as "Wall of Death", the track was shortened multiple times over the years. Today, it simply is part of the Autobahn 115 in the southwest of Berlin. The main grandstand remains and has been renovated in recent years, and the former race control tower is still in place as well - it is the building in the teaser image.

It would be reasonable to expect the track to be in its 1992-1995 configuration, as it would be accurate to both the 1992 and 1995 season cars in RaceRoom. By that time, the AVUS had been shortened to 2.639 kilometers, featuring a hairpin turn as the Südkehre, followed by a series of rather quick chicanes marked by kerbs on the back straight before heading into the flat Nordkehre.

In 1996, another chicane was installed on the entry to the Nordkehre following the fatal accident of Kieth O'dor in a Super Tourenwagen Cup race. In this configuration, the track continued to host races until the 1998 season, after which it was closed as a racing circuit.

Update Speculation

It is hard to believe that the aformenetioned hole in the 1995 DTM RaceRoom lineup will not be filled sooner rather than later. Once this is fulfilled, RaceRoom would have the entirety of the 1992 and 1995 seasons. The sim also has entries from 2003, 2005, 2013, 2014 and the more modern 2021 and newer fields.

What else could this massive new update potentially contain, you may ask yourself? A day and night cycle appears to be at the top of some people's lists along with updated Multiplayer menus and UI in general.

What do you want to see in the new RaceRoom update? Will you give the sim another try once it deploys? Let us know on X @OverTake_gg or down in the comments below!

I suppose everybody knows already this hint feature to improve the overal visual mood of the game? But in case no, here we are again:
This turns the original "cartoonish" look in much more realistic look.
  • Double-left-click the "Game" folder.
  • Double-left-click the "Shaders" folder.
  • Double-left-click the "dx9" folder.
  • Double-left-click the "fx" folder.
  • Double-left-click the "moods" folder.
  • Rename the default.mood to something else fe. original.mood. Then rename the "realistic.mood." to default.mood
If you additionaly add a good reshade, the game doesn´t look that bad (old) anymore.

Yes that´s right, rain races and AI in most cases feel very unbalanced. But for endurance online racing it´s a must have. Same goes to night/day circle.
The only recent sim with slower loading times is LMU and I dare to assume, that they will improve this over time.

the move from ams1 to ams2 ; in ams 1 they proved thatthey can be fantastic in there physics and feel department ; great feedback through the wheel etc ; ams2 they moved to a sparkly engine that doesnt feel as good looks pretty but is a lesser product imho;
Ac to Acc ; same thing went from a well balanced product to a pretty thing ; and even kunos has realised ; its not that easy to have pretty and good

The madness engine certainly was bug ridden when Reiza got their hands on it but they have been squashing them and now getting the engine to do things it was never designed to.

I never played AMS1 for more than an hour so can't compare it to that but The FFB is excellent and the current beta has it looking and driving like a completely different game, it is very impressive and has lots of new features coming too.

RRE was my most played sim until about 4 years ago but I grew tired of how it was being left behind from a visual point of view and a lack of visual options like day / night, rain etc. Are you guys able to do anything on that front?

This crucial AI thing has been becoming more and more insane since the late 2023 (amazing) physics update. It was absolutzly broken after the update, the dev asked for feedbaxk in order to.fix it, it has been said by OT members it had been fixed few months ago and NO, it is still not even comparable to its excellent state 10 months ago.

Is the major update just a return to what was Okring fine before??? :D

If they update the display dashes to be more realistic/geniune, and not the same 5 or so dashes that have to be stretched to fit the modern dash screens, I will.

Can I ask what the issue is with it?

I race at 4k 120fps and most stuff turned up to the max and it's every bit as good as other contemporary games. Granted I'm at the top end of spec, but then it's never been particularly resource-hungry.

I seriously do not want a flame war, I'm interested in what is so bad about it - as graphic fidelity is regularly slammed in forums.

Well firstly regardless of what you chuck at it, it won't magically get better graphics, its never going to be Gran Turismo. Lets not pretend its out dated graphics are because some people have lower spec system shall we....

Now having said all of that sim racing used to happily shout about how 'its not about the graphics its about the physics' or 'you don't look at the trees going 180 mph' etc etc etc.....
Simming has shifted a lot, people talk a lot about graphics now, i can still play GTR2 and be happy, raceroom never bothered me and in some cases i loved the way it looked.
Personally at some point somewhere, for me at least, they borked the feel of cars and FFB and since then never touch it aside from the odd 20 mins here and there.

Raceroom was my favourite sim for a long time, and I still enjoy it from time to time. For me, it fell behind in two main ways: the visuals, and track surface detail / accuracy. On the visuals, I can overlook it (although the low fidelity interiors and lack of HDR started to grate) as would a lot of the sim enthusiasts on this forum, but Raceroom needs to be a commercial success to justify development, and for that it needs broader appeal, which requires better graphical presentation. On the track surfaces, when I got a d-box system, it was obvious that so many of the tracks were unrealistically smooth compared to almost any other sim. On the other hand they do really great things with suspension modelling, which comes across nicely.

My guess is that they somehow merged the GTR development with Raceroom. If they manage to combine the best of both projects it could be something quite special. Fingers crossed, I'm rooting for them.

The most recent cars (for several years) present accurate dashboards. I agree the oldest cars need a dashboard update but you can use only the most recent content to fully enjoy the game the way you expect. That's not perfect for sure but if it's a major thing for you, you can consider that solution.

It needs a full relaunch, a new version with new graphics, more features and working AI, sold at 20 or 25 euros for the update, letting the old game available for those who won't pay for it. No more a free to play game, so let's include some existing content or new ones. It needs a kick in the a** with new promises and a solid roadmap, I don't see the sim taking off by the selling of a few paid content from time to time. It needs ambition and... a survey! :D

i know what the build looks like and what has been removed / changed , hopefully you guys wont have to wait too much longer to see it for yourselves...

Does the game still use 1 one CPU core? Has the FPS on Nürburgring 24 hours improved.I deleted it as nothing was delivered after the "great FFB Patch" destroyed the smooth gameplay on my system. No thanks won't try it again ,only ends up in frustration.

raceroom has used more than one cpu core , always ... as for the fps i believe fps have been improved on what will become the update ; well at least for me they have ;
24hrs and every other track has been updated

It’s clear the game has some die hard fans, but not enough for me to invest time again in it without substantial improvements. I’ve spent hours trying to get it to look decent and it still really doesn’t . I plays sims for the immersion and dated graphics really take away from that. For me at the moment nothing is more immersive than ams2 in vr, ac also is amazing with csp/pure and even iRacing can look quite decent on newer content. With ac evo around the corner I think raceroom needs more than a shader tweak to compete, but I will will try it again once it’s updated to see if it runs/looks better. Not holding out much hope though.

For me RRE has even not to compete against the others. Because like all other sims i drive, it has already this unique something. And this are particularly all the FWD touring cars. No other sim simulates them better for me.
So RRE gets his playtime anyway as well as AC, AMS2, rF2 or LMU. Even EA WRC ....
