After a somewhat prolonged hiatus from our screens, KW Studios has dropped the first teaser for a new update for RaceRoom that is being tipped as one of the most important for the sim in years.

UPDATED AUGUST 19, 2024, 08:45 UTC

The last content drop we saw for RaceRoom was in May when the BMW M8, GT4 and M2 CS were introduced to the extensive and varied RaceRoom store. Since that addition, there has been little to no news within the sim, aside from their annual content summer sale.

RaceRoom To Welcome The Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI

It is a safe bet to say that the new car teased in their post is the Alfa 155 V6 TI, a staple of the latter years of the original DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft). This incredible fire-breathing, Italian illustration of engineering masterclass will undoubtedly make the users of RaceRoom fall in love with the Alfa Romeo brand all over again.

With a total of 38 wins in its competitive years, the 155 V6 TI is one of the most successful cars of its era in terms of registered success. It was not just the DTM-spec 155 that was turning heads, the touring car version competing over in Britain, was causing chaos amongst series giants Vauxhall and Ford.

Expected is the 1995-spec car, as this would complement the already present AMG-Mercedes C-Klasse from the same year. But there is still a rather large Opel-shaped hole missing in that 1995 lineup.

RaceRoom To Debut Historic Track

While the full 1995 DTM grid would be excellent to have in RaceRoom, we have argued before that period-correct tracks for the abundance of historic content in the sim would be a welcome addition - racing classic cars on modern circuits just does not hit the same.

It would appear that KW Studios may have read that article - and took the inspiration: Just a day after the Alfa Romeo teaser, another blurred image dropped, this time featuring a rather distinct tower-like building with a Mercedes star on top. Racing fans will immediately know where that building is located - namely in Berlin. We are talking about the AVUS, of course.

Best known for its fearsome 19.279-kilometer (11.980-mile) layout complete with the enormous banked Nordkehre, also known as "Wall of Death", the track was shortened multiple times over the years. Today, it simply is part of the Autobahn 115 in the southwest of Berlin. The main grandstand remains and has been renovated in recent years, and the former race control tower is still in place as well - it is the building in the teaser image.

It would be reasonable to expect the track to be in its 1992-1995 configuration, as it would be accurate to both the 1992 and 1995 season cars in RaceRoom. By that time, the AVUS had been shortened to 2.639 kilometers, featuring a hairpin turn as the Südkehre, followed by a series of rather quick chicanes marked by kerbs on the back straight before heading into the flat Nordkehre.

In 1996, another chicane was installed on the entry to the Nordkehre following the fatal accident of Kieth O'dor in a Super Tourenwagen Cup race. In this configuration, the track continued to host races until the 1998 season, after which it was closed as a racing circuit.

Update Speculation

It is hard to believe that the aformenetioned hole in the 1995 DTM RaceRoom lineup will not be filled sooner rather than later. Once this is fulfilled, RaceRoom would have the entirety of the 1992 and 1995 seasons. The sim also has entries from 2003, 2005, 2013, 2014 and the more modern 2021 and newer fields.

What else could this massive new update potentially contain, you may ask yourself? A day and night cycle appears to be at the top of some people's lists along with updated Multiplayer menus and UI in general.

What do you want to see in the new RaceRoom update? Will you give the sim another try once it deploys? Let us know on X @OverTake_gg or down in the comments below!

I have all the race sims but I always go back to RRE. I have always loved the way the cars handle, FFB, replays, the circuits and the cars. I am really looking forward to the Alfa Romeo. These days I am primarily an offline player against the AI and I find it pretty good. I used to race online in the Racedepartment RR race club and it was the best in my opinion. I don't really care about day/night cycles, rain etc, my only gripe is the pricing. I would like it if that you had bought all the content once, then the next time you buy all the content it is heavily discounted.

Not an expert but this is a specific dashboard and not the usual generic RRE one, isn't it?
It is generic. Check out ACC or iRacing for comparison. I understand it is not something that might be important for all but for me it's very important for immersion. I don't need it to be completely 1:1, but here even the fonts are stretched...

thats always going to be difficult due to all menus are web pages and you hold no car physics data/ track data etc on your pc

Any chances we can get the developers to official address the always online concern and the plans regarding it? Would love to hear if there is an end of life plan before the inevitable end comes. Let's hope that's not for a while still regardless.

there is an end of life option , remember raceroom has 3 aspects , the game we play , the one installed in the raceroom cafes and the build that goes to events and is offline as such so its there...

Just popped over to KW Studio's forum and took a look around. This update has me hyped up. I cannot wait for it to drop!

Thanks for the info. I don't think I'll ever install the game again, given what you're telling me.:(
Considering how flexible the title.is, in terms of content ownership, ypu can buy any single car / skin combo to cars and tracks packs, and the possibility to test all cars before any purchase,I can imagine why an ingame store and an internet connextion are used. It.sould.be impossible to handle on Steam.

What are you afraid of? Your system is sharing information over the internet, without your consentment, all day long, RRE is.just using an internet connection to provide a smooth and flexible experience.

If you're afraid you will lose all your content when servers are shut down, it has been stated there that an offline version was existing, and I do think KW studios will find a solution for existing users to still be able to olay the game, although not that easy as it would require to transfer your rights about content on your qteam account, or, more achievable, to give the full game.for free or in a huge sale. It is not an easy task. I'm just wondering what the obsession is with online connection with RRE while.it is standard in many games.

Normally I am very chilled about this topic.
But few days ago I was already racinmg over an hour a championship race weekend, when we had about a minute internet killed. So I landed immediately on the desktop and was bit pissed.
Such things are happening and totally unnecessary

I see,.what a.pity. i'm pretty aure the team is axare about that. Though I still think changing that is changing how the software is built, not an easy task. Hope a sokution is going to be found.

I have the beta too via Paddock Club but mine still says 1.5 something. Its a newer version than the good for release stable version. How did you get 1.6?
When on the beta branch it updated automatically, is there an option for automatic updates? Otherwise maybe jump on the AMS2 beta forum, someone will be able to sort it for you if you post in one of the beta threads
