After a somewhat prolonged hiatus from our screens, KW Studios has dropped the first teaser for a new update for RaceRoom that is being tipped as one of the most important for the sim in years.

UPDATED AUGUST 19, 2024, 08:45 UTC

The last content drop we saw for RaceRoom was in May when the BMW M8, GT4 and M2 CS were introduced to the extensive and varied RaceRoom store. Since that addition, there has been little to no news within the sim, aside from their annual content summer sale.

RaceRoom To Welcome The Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI

It is a safe bet to say that the new car teased in their post is the Alfa 155 V6 TI, a staple of the latter years of the original DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft). This incredible fire-breathing, Italian illustration of engineering masterclass will undoubtedly make the users of RaceRoom fall in love with the Alfa Romeo brand all over again.

With a total of 38 wins in its competitive years, the 155 V6 TI is one of the most successful cars of its era in terms of registered success. It was not just the DTM-spec 155 that was turning heads, the touring car version competing over in Britain, was causing chaos amongst series giants Vauxhall and Ford.

Expected is the 1995-spec car, as this would complement the already present AMG-Mercedes C-Klasse from the same year. But there is still a rather large Opel-shaped hole missing in that 1995 lineup.

RaceRoom To Debut Historic Track

While the full 1995 DTM grid would be excellent to have in RaceRoom, we have argued before that period-correct tracks for the abundance of historic content in the sim would be a welcome addition - racing classic cars on modern circuits just does not hit the same.

It would appear that KW Studios may have read that article - and took the inspiration: Just a day after the Alfa Romeo teaser, another blurred image dropped, this time featuring a rather distinct tower-like building with a Mercedes star on top. Racing fans will immediately know where that building is located - namely in Berlin. We are talking about the AVUS, of course.

Best known for its fearsome 19.279-kilometer (11.980-mile) layout complete with the enormous banked Nordkehre, also known as "Wall of Death", the track was shortened multiple times over the years. Today, it simply is part of the Autobahn 115 in the southwest of Berlin. The main grandstand remains and has been renovated in recent years, and the former race control tower is still in place as well - it is the building in the teaser image.

It would be reasonable to expect the track to be in its 1992-1995 configuration, as it would be accurate to both the 1992 and 1995 season cars in RaceRoom. By that time, the AVUS had been shortened to 2.639 kilometers, featuring a hairpin turn as the Südkehre, followed by a series of rather quick chicanes marked by kerbs on the back straight before heading into the flat Nordkehre.

In 1996, another chicane was installed on the entry to the Nordkehre following the fatal accident of Kieth O'dor in a Super Tourenwagen Cup race. In this configuration, the track continued to host races until the 1998 season, after which it was closed as a racing circuit.

Update Speculation

It is hard to believe that the aformenetioned hole in the 1995 DTM RaceRoom lineup will not be filled sooner rather than later. Once this is fulfilled, RaceRoom would have the entirety of the 1992 and 1995 seasons. The sim also has entries from 2003, 2005, 2013, 2014 and the more modern 2021 and newer fields.

What else could this massive new update potentially contain, you may ask yourself? A day and night cycle appears to be at the top of some people's lists along with updated Multiplayer menus and UI in general.

What do you want to see in the new RaceRoom update? Will you give the sim another try once it deploys? Let us know on X @OverTake_gg or down in the comments below!

To get it to run with a decent fps on a 4070ti would be nice. It's unplayable for me at this point.
Thats kind of strange. Please explain. Either you´re playing 4k tripples, your CPU is weak or anything under 100fps is not decent for you.
Dx9 is not a performance beast, but with that GPU you shouldn´t have any problems.

I was a die-hard fan for years with 1,200 h in game.
I spent almost €400 on Raceroom but don't play it anymore.
Some decisions have driven me away.
  • More and more vehicle classes were added to the game with only one vehicle. Well, something seems to be happening here.
  • Every year the same vehicles with new skins, which have to be bought separately for ADAC GT Masters, DTM or GTR3, sometimes at half the price for the same vehicle. If you ask why, they say it's just the way it is for now.
  • There are also issues such as the aforementioned limitations of the engine, in which there is also no animation for gearshift paddles.
  • I can't get the tyres up to temperature on some vehicles. Maybe I'm too stupid or too slow for that. But I don't enjoy racing like this.
  • RR doesn't run as smoothly on my system as it does with other simulations I have micro stuttering with high fps.
  • I miss the old profile page in game where I could see my milage with cars and tracks
  • I also don't like the focus on Discord and empty promises about the forum. Very rarely a dev to be seen.
I'll have another look at it after the release and then decide whether to give it another go or say goodbye for good.

The most recent cars (for several years) present accurate dashboards. I agree the oldest cars need a dashboard update but you can use only the most recent content to fully enjoy the game the way you expect. That's not perfect for sure but if it's a major thing for you, you can consider that solution.
they doesn't at all, the dashboards where u get info like speed etc are the same 5 copy-paste templates because the tech (can't remember the name of it) is outdated and not supported anymore so they need to rework it completely, it probably will happen in the future since we get first graphics tweaks now but when?

If they only release DTM skin and you already own the GT3 or other way around then you pay only 0.29€ IIRC , not half price.

Seeing Goodwin here trashing on other sims that are leaps and bounds above R3E is priceless. I've bought premium twice. I've deleted it twice. I won't be buying it again. I found what I need in AMS2 1.6. Reiza will show you what a "Milestone Update" is.

Nope, not retracting anything. Your sim has no more soul than any other, it's just your opinion. Since you are vested in R3E, I consider that trashing other sims. Just keep pumping out the cars and tracks and liveries and stick with that old engine, while catering to the European audience. You can fool me once, maybe even twice, but not a third time.

thankyou

Ah great, another update with new content, they should use something else then Zandvoort/Hockenheim on their ranked servers, more variety in tracks, but then again, hardly anyone plays it, this game is as dead as a doornail.
DX9 with a bit of DX10....you guys know it's 2024 already? Things have moved on visually,it really is time they did as well, heck even iRacing uses DX11, and Noah developed that after he build his ark.....

Raceroom had it all. Excellent in every aspect, best of everything. In game ratings. Then they let it slip away, milking the car/livery/track train for years, incremental upgrades along the way. Now it is old, outdated, slow, and more unstable with every release. Sad to see this happen to such a great product, but management chose a path.

Now it's 2024. If under the correct management, R3E could have been competing directly with iRacing. But they blew it.

I don't have an issue with the graphics quality and to some extend it's also a matter of taste. I see alot of AC screenshots and videos that look like Michael Bay movies with people thinking that it looks good but certainly not like the world that I see outside. I guess the gfx part is one very important aspect of sim racing nowadays and sure it helps to improve the immersion. But there comes a point when gfx immersion fades and your eyes adjust, especialy when other pieces of the puzzle can't keep up with the gfx part. And in some regards graphics have become too important for my taste up to the point where people trash a product if the visuals just do their job.

That said, the bigger let down for me is the lack of a TOD cycle, weather and just everything that makes racing dynamic. Weather isn't just about rain - it's about ambient and track temps, humidity, wind and air preassure. There is so much stuff that you could add even with some basic models that help to make a track like a living environment. And that's sadly the reason why Raceroom really never hooked me. Imean, noone is expecting everything to be perfect, but it just adds so much to the experience in sims that offer it.

Premium
I found the FFB so bad when I switched to a t500 that I uninstalled the game, even though I was a great fan of its forerunners, i.e. the SimBin titles. Maybe it got changed.

Although FFB is very subjective, I personally have found the FFB very pleasing and detailed on my TSXW + Ferrari SF 1000 wheel once set up to my liking:)

Well firstly regardless of what you chuck at it, it won't magically get better graphics, its never going to be Gran Turismo. Lets not pretend its out dated graphics are because some people have lower spec system shall we....

Now having said all of that sim racing used to happily shout about how 'its not about the graphics its about the physics' or 'you don't look at the trees going 180 mph' etc etc etc.....
Simming has shifted a lot, people talk a lot about graphics now, i can still play GTR2 and be happy, raceroom never bothered me and in some cases i loved the way it looked.
Personally at some point somewhere, for me at least, they borked the feel of cars and FFB and since then never touch it aside from the odd 20 mins here and there.
Quite, it's not about high-fidelity graphics if the racing is good. Feel though, that's a fair point.
Have you had a go since the last major update - there was a lot of work in the FFB space.
I'll admit that I tried it and didn't care for it ("you've ruined my game!" type thing) but it turns out no, it's actually pretty good, we just get used to the games we play and how they feel.

And I think that last point above sums it up, like driving your real car, if you were to get in mine and wonder how I cope with all its peculiar quirks, especially going in hot to a set of bends...

Anyway, thanks for the reasonable reply, it's good to have a sociable forum I think.

Running a Ryzen 3700X w the 4070ti. Running triple 32s at 1440p. RRE is only one with this problem; AMS2 and ACC are my other main sims. For sure CPU bound, but can't find a solution.

Ummm... the most recent cars have the same dashboards as cars since the last dashboard update a lot of years ago, just stretched since the newer cars have different aspect ratio dash displays. They are absolutely not accurate.
