The "What Are You Working On?" Thread

Do you think it would be usefull to have place were those ressources would be gathered?

Yes, in terms of specifications. However sources need to be quoted rather than unattributed numbers just being thrown up into a thread. Appointing a curator or two to make sure posts conform would make it more beneficial to all.

When it comes to pictures, though, I think Fat-Alfie's approach works better.

For what it's worth, you'll find my database of links to free lidar for specific tracks is available at https://drive.google.com/open?id=1TC3ZEGzZtE7Ywmzf2UOlrZRaMbj_BOoIKkJHDtIPSpM. Haven't yet posted some overdue updates...

I'm also compiling a database of aerodynamic data (absolute lift & drag numbers) that's nearing 150 cars, but it's not ready for public consumption.

Reading again the last pages, it seems obviouslyto me, searching for old cars datas, picture/vids cost a lot of time for those who are building a mod. My suggestion is to have , for example, a thread were people post their informations(pics, vids, datas etc...) about those old time cars and tracks.

So if someone wants to make a car like for example an Auto Union Type R, he only has to go to this thread and he get´s all infos he needs, without long time gathering informations, cause this has alredy been done. Sparing time,i.o. to do what he he really wants - modelling the car.

I'd be interested to read all of that info. But, each modder needs to be responsible for the accuracy of their own work so really should double check anything they find on a thread like that. Maybe it won't save so much time.

It would make interesting reading though

Hey Folks

Just wanna say first off this thread is the bollocks, its truly inspiring. keep up the good work everyone

Ok so WIP video

ITS COMING ALONG, adding 30s growds and what not, need a little more vegetation around the place, its still a way off, 3d grass needs redoing in places (I got lazy, its a little straight and catches the eye), performance is a bit off at the moment (need to group and LOD loads of stuff but that will get sorted).

So if any of you lot want to download and do some testing or just try out were i'm at, contact me on PM and i will send you a link to download - ALL I ASK IS PLEASE DON'T UPLOAD/SHARE ANYWHERE YET

I'm looking for honest feedback, constructive though, don't be diks

Thanks

All WIP of course, went through the first pass of texturing. Next is set them up for AC and get it in game.

Staggering work, both of you. Just incredible.

@A3DR, your work is incredible. Have you considered setting up a Patreon to pursue full time modding? Do you already have something like that, or a donation page? I'd definitely like to donate as I've used your mods a lot and I want to keep seeing this level of quality work.

And the Acura 05 aeromap is effectively done (the only time 99.3% accuracy is something to try and improve upon).

Well this is basically what specific project threads on this subforum are about. On the Kunos forums modders put specific questions like [looking for physics help] in the thread title, but the results were (in my experience) rather bad...guys offering help just to get access to a mod earlier...

Totally agree about the curators.. totally chaos won`t help anybody;)

It must have to be systematic, it will be no use if data and specs are splattered over dozens of posts. Still i think it would be a good thing to have "bridge" between the modellers and people how have the information the others need to make it accurate.

The link to your database is an good examble... you posted it here... and 5 months ago and 300 posts in this thread later someone is in need of this lidar datas... and won´t get it cause this info has gone lost.

What i`m talking about is quite the opposite. People would only be able post info in this thread and don`t get any access to someones work. And by the way, no one is forced to use those datas.

By the way it´s not very polite(no, it´s offensive) to impute bad motives to people, simply because they offer help or informations.

just read Sergio´s last post. It´s a an ungood development. ANd it matters. Wehn money is on the line - trouble is always near;)

Ah cool, sounds like a fun collaboration (I still didn't see any mention of money) - certainly no need to worry, those guys are some of the best.
But I don't really understand why throwing in few dollars for some quality content is a problem.

I think it isn`t a mod anymore. The idea of modding always was: fans are making content for fans - just for fun
When they wan`t to make payed content. it´s ok - they should go the correct way: a company

When money is part, people who pay convert to customers, with costumers rights...
And don`t forget the copyright owners of cars, and tracks included - they can become very unfriendly...

Seems like @A3DR just bought the track himself to test his car in the right environment, I don't see any indication that it's now part of the payware (which he does make, but sells via his personal platform)
How to you interpret a sentence like this?
"Finally "F3 Classic Tracks" project had the other part, the cars :).Thanks @A3DR for trust in my project and help me to make it bigger :) "
Perhaps my english is getting a little rusty, but i think it means it´s gonna be part of this payware. And when he´s gonna tell us about everybody who is buying his track...:whistling:

Personally I don't think that means its payware - but regardless - I'm gonna download/buy both of the pieces of content either way, as I like to support other creators.

I read that as @A3DR having bought the track, tested his little 2-stroke racer and sent @Sergio Loro some screenshots which he then shared.

You can do as you like, you`re a free man.
But i think payware should be handled separately from "common" mods.
@Gevatter: Where I don`t find this info in the thread.
But nevertheless, time and @A3DR will tell. Everybody has his own opinion on payware mods. And positivly no reason to start the 3rd world war here...;)

Can we please cut out the payware vs. freeware nonsense guys.

Wish I knew what half of this meant, but its awesome to see, regardless of my primitive aero knowledge!
That's my real life data --> AC aero spreadsheet. The top picture shows total lift coefficient (written in terms of % of a given reference - reference noted at the very top of the sheet), the bottom is lift distribution (in % front format).

Within each sheet there are 3 charts. The top left is the data generated from the AC files. The bottom left is whatever data I have from the real car - in this case it's what I could make out from the screenshot of the Acura video (hence not as many data points as the AC one, which is of course unlimited). The top right is a comparison of the two (real life data minus AC data = delta). I try to get it within 0.5% of the real car's total CL and within 0.2% of its downforce distribution within the working range of the car (here it's even less), which typically means the extremes won't be as accurate (as you can see with the 0.7% delta at high ride heights and the 0.4% delta at a ride height combination the car never runs at). It's still within a % so the car is still quite accurate.

The graphs are just visual representations of the AC data (makes it easy to see if there are any rough spots that don't make sense).
