The "What Are You Working On?" Thread

I have a version of this already, but this one seems so much better, with a beautiful flow to it. Can't wait for release.

Road camber seems a lot more pronounced too. Magic work.

Also Schotten :) I have Feldbergring, Clermont-Ferrand, Battenbergring, Deutchlandring and Schotten all in-game (in various stages of development). I think I have a slight problem with tracks that are built into the landscape :O_o:

That's a wonderful problem to have.

They're all pretty fun to drive, even if I do stuff it on every hairpin thanks to no landmarks. :D

Apparently having 4 independent electric motors requires a lot of cooling pipes and power cabling :O_o:
If anyone has any tips for animating flexible wires, I'm all ears - I've got 5 per corner!

Not far off now, just a few more details to model, almost everything is already unwrapped just to need to organise the textures. Been given a provisional thumbs up for a public release which is cool

Modeling's looking really good Gary

@Ben O'Bro Did brake line animation for his Caterham(s); should know a thing or two about it.

that looks insane! All that detail.. about the animated wires...does the car even move that much that it warrants animating those? Are you paid enough for this? It is possible but apparently really time consuming to set up in the KS Editor and is not saved in the Persistence file, so you should do it as the very last task

Yeah suspension travel is pretty small, so its certainly not a pressing issue, will leave it to the end anyway. And no, I'm definitely not getting paid enough for it but I enjoy it which is the main thing :D

that's how i did for the seven
http://imgur.com/a/Th4iJ

Basically i applied the skin modifier to the brake cable, and i applied both screws as bones. No need of more null/dummy this way
prior to this, you need to make sure you put gizmo of the cable properly, and centered in 0,0,0
i edited the enveloppe very wide as you can see in the screenshots.
To try quicker what's best for enveloppe parameters, i animated some key frames of the steering, then as i was playing with the enveloppe shape, i was playing the timeline to see the result, faster than selecting the bones etc.

edit: additional note : kseditor can be a son of ***** when it comes to skinned objects, and you might not be able to select/texture them properly... i had to do the materials on the ini file and reload the file each time... so name them well to find them easily as well!

edit2: link bones (screws) to body or to wheel using hierarchy

Thanks, I'll give it a go. Never messed with skin modifiers and bones before!

Edit*

Quick question regarding the bones, how are they linked to the body/suspension movement? Sorry if this is a really stupid question, maybe its clear when actually trying it.

  • Yes, but only if the price is right

  • No, a generic wheel is fine
