The SimFeedback-AC DIY Motion Simulator thread

Hey guys. Thought I’d create a thread for those taking the plunge into this brilliant DIY project..
I will be starting mine soon and I know there are others thinking about it.. so feel free to share your knowledge and experiences so we can all enjoy this platform to its full potential. A huge thanks to the developers who have really knocked this one out of the park!

For all the internals for the actuator contact Amy - skye@ntl-bearing.com
She can supply everything you need. Just remind her you want the ends of the shafts chamfered and make sure she sends the right sized ball screw - we have had a couple of issues reported. She is very helpful though and the cost is pretty good.

Huge thanks to @RowanH for writing a comprehensive user guide which can be accessed here - https://www.rowanhick.com/sfx-100-build-and-running-guide

In addition, @anton_Chez has contributed a list of post numbers for some of the important settings etc..

I will try to keep this page updated with links to source the parts in other parts of the world. Just post whatever links you have and i'll add them here.

Please note: Not all the parts listed below are essential for the project. For the essential parts refer to the original shopping list.

Wow everyone done their rigs in ~2022 and riding with motion and 0 F given about newcomers. :roflmao:

I have a question about the slider this HAS to be printed with supports right? I don't see how you can get that internal overhang dimensionally correct printed without support?

Or nobody used train shipping, so they cannot answer your question ;).

No, you do not need to print supports for the slider, if you place the slider on the bed with the conical internal overhang at the bottom. The horizontal (flat) overhang should be at the top. (Don't mind the arrow in this picture.)

Well I finally got my driver box put together and i'm pretty happy with it..

Got inputs for dsub and motor power for each driver, USB input, Kill switch, and on/off switch on front panel.

2 fans - one on each side panel (total overkill!)

IEC AC in on rear panel..

I'll probably sticker it up a bit more!

Sorry to bother you on a post that’s so old but would you be willing to share the wiring instructions for your SFX Driver box? It’s the most streamlined I’ve seen and looks so good I would love to replicate it.

If you can’t provide those could you link me to a video that could show me how to do this. As I’m not an electrician and don’t want to mess up lol

Hey Mate..

Man that was so long ago I cant remember exactly what I did.. I got rid of my SFX system years ago so I can't even take any pics or anything for you..

I just kind of did it as I went... you need to be able to solder if you want to put the DSUBS on the front... then just strip then end of the cable and use a cable tester to get the right wires on the right terminals..then plug the other end into the motor.

The Speakon power connectors are pretty easy as they are screw in.. Like I said cant remeber exactly what goes where.. just google.

Good luck with it.. you'll figure it out.. just step by step..
