Team ORSM

Yeah but a V8 Supercar is rev limited to 7500 rpm. Mandatory limit imposed by the rules (the rule states that the engine cannot produce power above 7500rpm ....... they are also rev limited in engineering). So it probably would still not overrev on the downshift.

I think your main concern is those that go into corners so hot the brakes want stop them alone so they use the gears in quick succession to slow the car. This is a earer that usually isn't tested properly when doing the physics because the test drivers are drivers not cowboys or dive bombers. It is one that we are aware of how ever and have countered it. We hope anyway. You suggest to have this driving style penalised by making the engine susceptible to damage by over revving which is a good idea but like dbens1 has stated the cars are rev limited. In a real world situation you gear down below the speed vs RPM you would break something but unfortunately not in rFactor at this time. Another issue with dive bombing is tyre lock ups. At this time with 1.3 two cars side by side, One locks a wheel and the other doesn't. Both slow at the same rate and enter the corner together. A car with a locked wheel should not slow at anywhere near the same rate as one which is not locked. Right? Just another aspect being worked on for V8sUnleashed.

I was also drawing on my memory from when several years ago at Pukekohe Ambrose went from 5th to 2nd (instead of 4th) in the old H pattern gearbox and "pinged" the engine momentarily (luckily with no damage). Admittedly, this isn't really an issue with a suquential shift unless, like Doug said, you drive like a cowboy.

Out of interset dbens, how can a downshift be rev limited by engineering?

cannot wait for this, iracing guys have been bagging the crap out of the old v8 factor.

Well that's fine. iRacing should be better otherwise more fool them for wasting their money if it wasn't. Newer physics engine worked on by paid people with information paid for. We hear people going on about laser scanned track and how they are giving no thought to the people who build them on only what they can get from the net and in most cases do a fantastic job off it. Stop comparing a company run sim against one that is built for you for FREE. At the end of the day we all run on the some track with the same physics. Same advantages and disadvantages. Laser scanning is no 5 minute job and can cost a lot of money so be happy with what we get when it's so close, Not perfect but really if you care that much then go join iRacing. I'm sure you'll find that isn't perfect either.

PS. This is Not directed at anyone person. If you take a fence to it, It's of your own making.

With the new suquential gear boxes they are computer controlled. They want engage a gear lower then the speed of the main spline shaft. These boxes have to go down through the gears one by one not like a H pattern were you can shift from say 4 to 2 in one move. If you try to go down to fast with the sequential it want change.

totally agree mate, my words were meant for the iracing ppl who like to bag rfactor and its many racing series as arcade like, i had a good argument with an american who said all v8 supercars was is a rip off of american technology and didnt come close to Nascar i told him that was his view but in this part of the world we race because we love the sport and like you said it is developed free of charge by ppl who have normal lives.

Thats what I was getting at and thanks for the info! Hopefully in rFactor 2 they will take the over revers into account because I know its something I do too much of even with the Hpattern.

My understanding is that it is done electronically. Remember that the new gearboxes were introduced after Ambrose.

Does the iRacing American you were arguing with actually know the V8 engine was invented and first patented in France by a Frenchman?.....

After 2 stints of iRacing my conclusion was the difference between what it offers and what guys like ORSM and GSMF/Enduracers for example, offer up for free, then the maths just dont add up,and also iRacing really showed me how shallow and fickle i am with regards to some varied content in my simming life,i quickly became sick and tired of Solstice races at Lime Rock and Laguna, theres only so much one can take, never able to take part in any series ever due to having to go and buy about 12 tracks or so and the car,so i was perpetually stuck in a cycle of never progressing and mindlessly ambling around rookie Solstice and Skippy and Legends races getting whacked and rammed from every concievable angle, from my own personal experience with iRacing i think i could have presented quite a decent case in a court of law for a full no quibbles refund if i put my mind to it.......

Oh dear...i went on a tangent and typed that out loud didnt i?.....what i meant to say was,Power to the rF platform and ORSM V8's !!!!.

With the release of the video (great work btw) are ORSM actually "close" to a release?

Where I work we provide all sorts of useless acronyms, normally about cost. HLE (high level esitmate), BPE (Ball Park Estimate) and my favourite...WAG (Wild Arse Guess) :)

With the video, I think there is alot of people getting their hopes up for a release in the "near future". I do hope its released soon, but, I just don't want to get my hopes up to early. Now, I am not looking for a date, but a WAG would be great. 1-3 Months? 3-6 Months? or 6+ Months? Is there still alot to do, or are you geting to the point where its more polishing off the edges, as opposed to build/contruction?

Hey Tickford.

Like I mentioned just after the vid was released.. These models are the best of the best.. Now, we need 9 other models (Low, Med and High Quality Meshes for each or the 3 cars). Each car (and detachable part for that matter) can consists of these level of detail (LOD).

Once they are done, then the tuning of the LOD transitions is done, so you get the best gaming experience without sacrificing framerate unnecessarily.

But in saying that, we are still tuning the other parts of the mod like AI behavior, sounds and physics while we have the benefit of time.

WAG... no idea..
