12 - sequ shifter, pushpull shifter and handbrake

that is an interesting chapter - driving 95% of my time GT and LMP cars - but spent so much time in looking for the right h-pattern shifter, sequ shifter and handbrake - i cannot explain, but it was important to get the best components for my setup.

- Frex H-Pattern - this shifters rocks, maybe the prosim is better, but for my rig, Frex is the best choice. The short travel is great and the gear change feels awesome.
- Manu Factory MF ssh14 - i cannot explain this beast - you have to try it - its like a fitness training - hammering the gears is so nice - and let us not forget the great looking. Upgraded the switches to Otto P3 - nice click sound in additon to the great tactile shift.
- Ascher Push-Pull Rally shifter - not sure if ascher stopped the production - such great to run rally cars with it - for this shifter i have a DIY moung - LINK
- HE Handbrake - i prefer the handbrake from DIMSIM but HE fits better to my rig - a great tool - DIY mount solution you can dowload here - LINK

13 - screens & sound

Screens

I was racing for more than 3 years VR – starting with Oculus Rift ending with Valve Index. Due to space restrictions I was not able to build my triple setup. VR was a great time with unique immersion. 2020 I found a small place in my basement and immediately I build my triple rig. Hence I decided to stop VR racing. VR gave me this great immersion and everything below 40 inch triples did not feel good for me. It took me a while to find a 43inch screen with nvidia sync support. Unfortunately at the time of my rig build only 60hz systems where available and only Philips had one product. I think by today situation improved. I have to admit that higher framerate would be great – but to be honest so far i did not ge a 3090
1f60a.png
- so I am very happy with my 3x43 setup.
- Triples 3 x 43 inch Philips 436M6VBPAB
- Top Screen 1 x Lenovo 27inch
- Dashboards 2 x 7 inch HDMI
- wheel USBD480
there is a great USB/HDMI converter to enable additional HDMI connections

Sound

A short chapter but many people are still trying to search for the ideal solution. I am racing quite often with my “used” Pioneer 5.1 system (spent 90EUR for this great and powerful audio video system). This cheap AVS system is giving a huge immersion to my races as sound effects are coming from each and every corner. To get in touch with my race team I use an amazon usb microphone. Headphones Creative Soundblaster Jam V2 and Creative BT-W3 supporting BT Codec APTX low latency - great 40ms delay.

14 - driver seating position

part of my rig report is a detailed info on my seating position. Seating position is an individual thing which has to fit to your body and personal preference. Anyhow many people were asking how mine is looking like.

16 - Software and Settings

a chapter without pictures let me share all tools i have installed and why i am using them.

SIMS
installed all of them - testing all of them - racing a few of them - there are PRO and CONS in every SIM - in my point of view there is no winner.

MOTION Software
https://github.com/SimFeedback/SimFeedback-AC-Servo/releases
i am using SIMFEEDBACK since 12 month wihtout any interruption – GREAT performance for a DIY project software.

SFX100 StreamDeck Plugin - daCuJo
https://github.com/ashupp/SFX-100-Streamdeck
needed to control SFX100 with your streamdeck

SFX100 Service Mod - DSL71
https://github.com/.../SFX-100.../releases/tag/0.0.3.0
Great Streamdeck based mod to work at my rig and to measure the maximum movement of it.

SIMHUB
https://www.simhubdash.com/
a key element for all my DIY projects.

JOY2KEY
https://joytokey.net/en/
as i have several button boxes and wheels with overlapping ingame functions I decided to use JOY2KEY. Each SIM input is realized with an keyboard input and those are mapped with JOY2KEY tp my game devices. Giving you a short example
- Upshift/downshift – KEY a & y – 3 different wheels, manu shifter and ascher shifter

CREWCHIEF
http://thecrewchief.org/
your personal crew chief – a must have

GYAZO
https://gyazo.com/en
great to make fast screenshots and ingame GIF vidoes

HRC
https://funk.eu/hrc/
amazing tool to change screen resolutions via hotkeys.

Volume²
https://irzyxa.blogspot.com/
nice tool to change the “what you hear” volume via hotkeys. As I am running a optical connection to my audio system the only solution to change volume.

17 - Buttonboxes - Streamdeck

I have 2 button boxes giving the needed support during races. all boxes are 3d printed and coverd with carbon fibre foil aswell black foil.

  • left side - button box stream deck XL
    Projekt Files - LINK
i love my streamdeck and i believe it is one of the best button box for simracing. as i did not like the "look", i create my own button box holding the streamdeck. right hand you find the emergency buttons for 2x SFX and 1x SC2. Two ALPS 7way funky switches are integrated.
if you like my streamdeck icons - https://www.dropbox.com/s/vmh8iarhrourkg4/pwistudio-streamdeckicons.zip?dl=0
    USB Controller - OSH

  • right side
at the right side i have more or less the same functions. Please do not judge - i use sometime the 7way on the left button box, sometime on the right buttons box. to get this working i use JOY2KEY as explained in chapter 16

18 - Dashboard

after some DIY DDU projects (6 different DDUs) i like to present my final solution. I am running 2 DDU10 like in some of our beloved GT cars.
  • 7inch HDMI,
  • 20 LEDs,
  • plexi glas,
  • stickers
  • multijetfusion housing.
  • Simhub dashboards

19 - DIY - USB Controller

Boards i used for my DIY projects

BBI-32 - a quality USB Controller by LeoBodnar - PRO: easy wiring without matrix, great encoder support, great configuration software - CON: no ALPS 7way support, quite big, no display support, no LED support

BU0836 - a quality USB Controller by LeoBodnar - PRO: easy wiring without matrix up to 12 inputs, great encoder support, great configuration software, small size - CON: no ALPS 7way support, matrix needed +12 inputs, no display support, no LED support

Granit Devices Wireless Button Module - a quality USB controller by GD enabling a wireless connection between SC and SC2 - PRO: SC wireless, easy wiring, low power consumption (battery life 1y and longer) - CON: pre-set configuration (5 encoders, 16 buttons, 2 paddles)

Pro Micro ATmega32U4 - my fav DIY chip - small and cheap and with Arduino i can sketch based on my needs - PRO: small, cheap, no matrix up to 8 inputs, LED support (latency and power eg for 8x8 matrix LED boards), Nextion support, ALPS 7way supported with some sketch knowledge - CON: matrix needed for bigger button layouts, CTS288 not supported out of the box

Atmega328 CH340 - small and cheap - compareable to Pro Micro with some disadvantages - PRO: small, cheap, no matrix up to 12 inputs, LED support, ALPS 7way supported with some sketch knowledge - CON: matrix needed for bigger button layouts, CTS288 not supported out of the box, no display support, LED - less power and higher latency than Pro Micro

OSH / freeJoy - Blue Pill STM32 - https://opensimhardware.wordpress.com/pedal-button.../ - https://github.com/FreeJoy-Team/FreeJoy (not yet tested :)) amazing solution for buttonboxes and wheels - PRO: cheap, great configuration software, supports more or less everything (buttons, encoders, switches, ALPS 7way switch) - CON: hard to find no-fake STM32 chips

21 - DIY - Screens and LED

to build a dashboard you need displays and LEDs. In the last month i created about 20 designs using different screens. please check again my DIY projects.

Let me summarize the connection types.

HDMI - for me the best solution in case you have a free HDMI port. easy dashboard handling via simhub. many dashboards availbalbe. 40-60EUR

USB - VoCore and USBD480 are great displays in case you have no free HDMI port. easy dashboard handling via simhub. many dashboards availbalbe. 35EUR or 150-180EUR

Nextion - connects via nextion bridge (standalone or using a pro-micro) - quite complex dashboard handling via simhub - requires some skills to create dashboards - std simhub dashboard cannot be used! only few dashboards availbable. great advantage - due to nextion bridge sketch you can use single USB cable (screen, LED and buttons). 25-50EUR

a) 7inch HDMI - https://www.amazon.de/.../ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin...

b) 5inch HDMI - https://www.amazon.de/.../ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin...

c) VoCore - https://vocore.io/screen.html

d) Nextion - https://nextion.tech/basic-series-introduction/

e) LED - WS2812 boards - Dashboards REV light

f) LED - WS2812 Matrix - Flagg System

g) LED - WS2812 stripes - Spotter, Eyebrows, Dashbaords

h) LED - PL9823 - Dashbaords, Laptimer

j) USB -> HDMI - great solution to have more than 4 or 5 screens connected - https://www.wavlink.com/en_us/product/WL-UG35H7.html
