DiRT 2.0 Rally Argentina Gameplay.jpg

We've had some time in DiRT Rally 2.0 recently, and on Friday evening we will be showing some unedited gameplay from the challenging Argentinian stages..

The car? Has to be the Ford Escort Cosworth. The rally? Argentina. The stages? Difficult... !

Make a date in the diary for 19:00 UTC on Friday 22nd February as we hit five stages of rally action from the Argentinian rally within DiRT 2.0 - the much anticipated new rally game from gaming giant Codemasters.

The video on Friday will simply be unedited gameplay, but if you want to check out our review of the upcoming title, and of course enjoy some 'Talk n Drive' fun (that should be a challenge), then stay tuned to RDTV on Twitch in the coming days and laugh at my woefully inadequate rallying skills, helped no end by a lack of handbrake.. because rally cars don't want to go sideways do they...

DiRT Rally 2.0 will release February 26th 2019.

If you want to discussion the game with our passionate community, and read about the latest news, check out the RaceDepartment DiRT Rally 2.0 Sub Forum for a great place to pick up mods, catch the latest news and chat about the game with our community. Give it a go, just keep it DiRTy!

Didn't watch the video yet.....I have one question.
Does the game support automatic steering rotation?

Edit: yes it does and is called softlock which automatically detects the steering rotation per car.

DiRT Rally 2.0 is truly amazing, if you love rallying games as I do it is a must buy. It unlocked for me at 8am here in the UK, I should have been in the gym getting ready for a real race but it was just too tempting to give it a go.

I was able to jump in and play the game almost instantly - none of the trial and error with settings many games require - and it runs perfectly. I reassigned the handbrake button for ease but other than the the default settings for the TX458 wheel work perfectly. A 30 second in game wheel calibration and I was good to go. All assists are set to off by default, sticking with the hardcore nature of DiRT Rally.

Here's my first attempt at one of the short Argentina stages, the game looks glorious in 4K.:

I started with a car I've driven on gravel and yes I can say that does indeed feel close to the real thing, as close as just feedback through a wheel and not a full car is able to in any case.

The in game effects that are most and instantly noticeable are:

- The way I can feel the soft gravel moving under the tyres, especially braking into hairpins and on the exit of corners. This really does feel like driving on gravel not just a lower grip generic surface.

- This is a true throttle, brake and handbrake control game. The car is so lovely on the handbrake, keen to pitch the nose in and easy to catch as it slides with some power on the way out of the corner. Any concerns about DiRT 4 style handling (which was still ok imo) can be forgotten.

- The co-driver calls are once again superbly timed and detailed (if anything as usual they are a bit too clear in games but I understand why they do that).

I'd ignore a lot of the hand-wringing and anxiety I've seen expressed in other DiRT Rally 2.0 threads about minor inconsequential details, this is a truly superb rallying game.

I don't like the FFB, no matter what settings I used. Feels like a downgrade even from Dirt Rally (actually, even Dirt 4). Mainly just SAT forces and generic, linear resistance. Very little anything else.

Unless it's a bug, doubt I'll be driving this very much. Physics are improved, FFB is a massive step back

I'm very unimpressed. The FFB is not good at all on my Fanatec, I spent from 00;00 when it released to get something half decent.
I spent the last hour just simply driving the tarmac in the Aston trying to get a bog standard road working.
It's for the want of a better word 'mushy'.
When I tried muddy, wet conditions there was little point me being there doing anything.
I hope they patch this as I'm way past refunding.
Wait before you buy this is my advice, potential for another flop IMHO.
OMG, the Porsche is laughable BTW, I had to stop because I thought it was me. Imagine 6 inch wheels in 7 inches of mud and the FFB that would give you. Honestly, that's what I thought!
I'm sure a patch will fix this.

I'm surprised you say that but we all have our own perceptions on FFB and the wheels also vary widely so I accept that's your experience. Mine is the reverse.

The AWD and older FWD cars have unique character and feedback to me and the feedback changes significantly depending on the surface. Gravel gives good detailed feedback, tarmac - with the car set low and suspension stiffened up - feels more like a track car on a smooth surface, plenty of detail to let me know what is going on. On wet stages the surface feels slippy, it's clear when the when the grip is low and the front wheels are sliding and struggling to find purchase, equally the rear of the car give enough cues to grip on throttle. It feels like there is more difference between the cars than in DiRT Rally to me.

A couple of hours in and the FFB feels all good to me, no messing about I'm just able to jump in, get on and enjoy the game.

Subjective of course. But seen dozens of posts about the same thing, from people with various wheels. On Steam forums, Reddit too. Someone on Assetto forums got a refund due to the same thing.

Personally I'd suggest to buy from official Steam and not keysites if good FFB is important to you. So you can get a refund if you don't like it

I took a look at the links, seems most are complaining of little or no feedback. So strange because the TX458 is giving me a decent workout as well as plenty of feedback - for certain a good bit more detailed and intuitive than DiRT 4. It’s more detailed than Codies F1 2018, way better than WRC7 & Dakar 18 and I’d say it is similar to the wheel effects in the latest build of ACC.

I see some suggestions that RaceNet being down might be having an influence, it’s down for me at the moment so we’ll see.

There's good resistance in the general steering forces, and they are in logical places. So the "big picture" is right. It's not too light for me either. Problem is, road detail isn't there, or like one guy said, feels like driving on a pool table.

That's actually what J. Broadbent said in his 1st video (although he mentioned it very briefly, at 7:26 time):

Saying he doesn't feel much other than weight. I'm surprised he didn't focus on it more, FFB is pretty important part of simracing.

But we'll see what happens. Currently I'd prefer Dirt Rally 1 even with it's inferior physics

Here in Finland many ppl too are complaining about ffb, pc and ps4 users. I have this now on Xbox(X), but only briefly I tested this with pad last night. Have to check steering wheel -driving feel this evening, with my Fanatec CSW v2/ CSL LC pedals. I can use either rims with un.hub, Xb-compatible whole wheel or any of my wheelrims with drive hub-adapter.

*snip* way better than Dakar 18 *snip*

Granted, it might've been improved a lot through numerous patches. I tried it at a buddy and ended up using an xbox controller on Dakar!

RaceNet was up when the game was opened last night, I had the exact same issue then. I can feel the rear of the car slipping (as the wheel turns like it should), I can feel the effects on jumps. I really feel it over the cattle guards in NZ, there it shakes my wheel like it should. So it feels like the effects is somewhere.

However, on normal driving on a normal stage, it's just not there. With FWD, no difference with wheelspin or not. With all cars, absolutely no feel for bumps etc. I can see the stage being full of ruts. I can see the whole car shaking and getting punished. However, there is absolutely no signs of that in my wheel.
It gets even worse with soft lock on (which in itself doesn't work properly on all cars either).

It's actually quite sad, as the rest of the game feels really good. With fixed FFB this would be one epic game!

Good point, you feel big effect over these spots. It feels almost "canned" because you get strong feedback, but only in these spots. Kinda like the rest would be missing so it sticks out

Someone in Reddit also said, that he has SibVibe working and gets ton of great road feedback from his transducers, but not from his wheel. So looks like the telemetry is there, it's just not sent to FFB

RaceNet is the main reason for me to refund actually good game. Codemasters decision to implement online in OFFLINE career mode is stupidest thing that can kill that game for most people. Waiting for response from RaceNet for minutes for almost every gamer action in the game it's an absurd. And i fear that some server error in the future can easily wipe out all my career progress which is already happened with some players.
Plus that annoying "sound disappearing bug", when all you can hear is sound of gravel and despair.
Codemasters. Codemasters never change. Made really good game and destroy it with some stupid decision.
