Ok, but wasn't that the David and Goliath effect as seen on numerous races where the mini could beat american muscle cars in corners but on the straight they were significantly slower? The way you described it, it sounds as it should be.

Yep, the Mini was the 'Giant Killer'. The same is seen in the GTL club with the Mini burning through the corners but losing out on the straight, just like real life. I think it makes things more interesting personally.

That said, there aren't exactly loads of cars in the Retro pack, so excluding the Mini also means an extra event option. That's fine by me.

Would have been great with a few more people.

Q, 4th.
R1, jari and mitchell pulled away fast (not surprising, since they qualified several seconds faster than the rest), and Erik and Phil made a few mistakes, cruised the full race alone, more than half a minute from any action either way. 3rd place.

R2, decided to forget about lapping fast (well, relatively, fast for me) and mix a bit with Erik and Phil, some nice laps, but as we were driving sideways I took a couple of turns off-line, clipped a few corners and got a stop&go penalty. Served it expecting that at least I would have a fight (trying to catch them again), but oh, another stop&go for speeding in the it (but I have auto pit!!!). Served it, guess what, another stop&go. Left the game since it looked it would be nothing but endless penalties for me.

Great racing tonight. Wasn't really looking forward to it because of the lack of numbers and the long track.
However
Race 1: I tried keeping up with the front 3 at the start but quickly realised I would be left alone. Therefore I dropped back and had fun with Erik until he made a mistake and crashed out at Becketts. After that i had a couple of laps on my own and managed to lose a wheel at Bridge on the last lap! Rolled over the line with 3 wheels.

Race 2: Again had a good couple of laps but then made mistakes under pressure from Jari and Mitchell so again dropped back to have some fun. Had some really good laps with Alberto going side by side though copse and the first part of maggots before I also started getting Stop and Go's. Then I lost a wheel again, got back to the pits for a SnG and got retired.

Cheers for the clean and fun racing everyone

Well not much to say. No contact from anyone I think, very nice racing.

Qually was good, only had one run and I put it on pole, then I just coasted in race trim for the rest of it. Was having some graphical issues too so was trying to iron those out before the races (I need a new computer XP)

R1 was amazing, Jari pipped me off the start and had a couple of second lead for the first few laps, then he made a mistake and I ended up right on his tail, I decided to push hard and I had a ballsy move up the inside of Becketts, he was very gentlemenly and I have to admit looking back it probably wasnt the smartest move but he had made a mistake and lost alot of speed so I was comitted unless I was going to slam on the brakes and ruin my car, thankfully he was brilliant. Then a bit more cat and mousing till he I made a mistake myself and ran wide, and he took advantage and passed. That was it really, pretty comfortable race but the racing itself was intense.

R2 was booring, reversed grid and off the start I decided to just coast straight away, didnt want to get recked going through the pack (something I probably am paranoid about from racing in public servers), but everyone was fantastic and I really should've pushed looking back, but a few cars got between me and Jari and he ended up pulling away while I was still in traffic, and I knew he was too good to make a mistake again and too fast for me to catch a 5 second gap so, I just got into 2nd and coasted, and sure enough, he didnt make a mistake won pretty nicely.

Great racing guys, still cant belive that was my first time in a Formula Ford car, hehe. But I had alot of fun. :)

WHAT A RACE! :) Kinda.

Q: Last, I was 10s off Jari and Mitchell
R1: Horrible start and I was really trying to push it to catch up, ended up putting a tire over and the car went spinning. Lost a wheel. Race over.

R2: Decided to use the Jensen Button school of racing (smooth is fast). Started from pole, got passed by Jari and Mitchell, then what a race for 3-4-5, we kept trading places for a few laps, I had a small run off and Alberto and Phil had something happen to them, I ended up in 3rd, kept a nice race pace and my lap times kept going down. Ended up finishing (my first for the Formula Fords) in 3rd.

Had a great time.

To my mInd it's just that it's too fast. The Amazon in that video is driven by none other than Mr. Larose, so when an average driver such as I can race with him you have to take it as an indication of the cars superiority. And Fuji is a power circuit.

Yet Yves says that during that very race Mini drivers were 'frustrated' at being blown away by the bigger cars on every straight. So my original question still stands... is the Mini too fast or too slow? The answer is actually neither, because it's supposed to work as it is now. The Mini is fast on corners, the other cars are fast on the straights. The end result is a measure of balance which tips slightly in either direction based on the track being used at the time.

But it's fine. If people are unable to prevent themselves picking the Mini even if it's low top speed frustrates them, then I guess it has to be disallowed. I just think it's a shame, that's all.
