does a hd affect performance ?

yes a lot, especially loading time

but since your harddrive is a Sata, i think it will not give you any problems for now

I suggest getting a lower end type of RAM but instead get 4GB. That seems to work for me.

I have corsair in my system (the 2 *1 gb version of the first model shown) and these I find that are good/great ramcard
actually corsair is a good brand

OCZ / Corsair etc ,just get whatever is cheapest for you for a 4gb kit, all work as good as each other. Even Kingston is ok if your not going to do some seirous overclocking.

[Central Topic] PC Upgrading

I am having some isues with this set up its not the best i know but...i think it should run race07 and gtr evo no probs..
but every now an then it freezes and goes black screen then regains ?? 5 secs later?
so im thinking of an upgrade to sort this problem out.
I only play race sim games on pc so im not looking to go daft
with this upgrade
im running a :
MEDION MS-7255 M/BOARD
INTEL DUO CORE TM2 CPU 4300 @ 1.80GHz
NVIDIA GEFORCE 8600GT 256 DDR3
2GB RAM SET
HDD 320GB SATA300 8MB

I was thinking new card to 512 but im thinking its the chip set ?
what would you guys recommend i do on a cheap budget please :question:

Did you try a complete re-install first, i mean also XP or Vista? Did you update the drivers?

With your configuration you can run EVO but not with all maxed out settings.

You have a VIA® VT8237A Chipset which is not my favourite but 5 seconds delays looks like there is a serious problem.

Before you buy things try to find out first what causes the problem and start with a complete re-installation.

Does this happen in other games too?

Agree with Marcel, lets try and work out whats going wrong. What do you have your view distance on?

yes it has happened on GTR2 as well im running vista home prem 32bit
i only have a repair or upgrade on the disc i got cos its preloaded so i cant reinstall .. i dont think !? i have updated drivers cos wen it freezes
the yellow triangle come up with msg " driver failed and fully recovered"
i can only think it meant video driver ? thats why i thought i needed new card because its struggling ?
as for driving veiw its in the default setting i dont change it .
is it possible i have a bug in there then or faulty card or chips :wilt:

my pc specs are a little higher than yours and i have to run EVO on low display settings and 2 AA to stop the frezzers and even then i still get stuttering on some tracks when passing the pit area.

Oh ... I was thinking that yours would be enought to run on full or max !
I say that because it is kinda the same I was thinking of upgrading too
less 2gb ram or maybe 2.4 - 3.0 ghz chip set !!
I might have to re-think now all depends on what info is shared here .
