Race report:
We got up on Friday in the early morning. Mine and my father's only job was to arrive to the car service park, where the team was supposed to load all the cars and just go straight to Most. At that time we didn't know it won't be that easy task.
Together we've got 14 cars to be moved to Most - and only 7 loaders, luckily some cars could go on their own as they were road legal. It was clear that we would have to do twice trip though. Some cars were already in Roudnice - small town 65km far from Most. So the plan was to travel us to Most, then my father was meant to go back to Prague to load another car and I with others move to Roudnice to get the cars to Most - these were road legal, so we didn't need the loaders for them.
It took almost 4 hours before we finally set off to Most with Škoda 120LS merged with our VW Touran because one of the cars had broken engine. It was amazing feeling then, because as a colony of 7 racing cars going trough the capital city was attracting attention. Finally I was really taking a part of a race!
Everything went smooth until we went of a highway. I don't know why they did so, but then we went quite a lost. The leader of our group went more than a 50km longer way. Maybe it was intended because we were going trough mountains and saw the beauty of Vysočina countryside. I love my country
As we arrived we got our loaders empty and immediately set off for the rest of the cars. Father went to Prague I to Roudnice. It was torturing journey because - and I am not kidding - I had to pee that much that I though I would explode
When we reached Roudnice it took another 2 hours to gather all cars. Then we moved to Most by the old road as we couldn't go on the highway. I got Škoda Felicia set for a small person - a woman. I am very tall person and was suffering a lot. But it was amazing experience and I enjoyed this little racing car!
It was long day. I was totally ruined in the evening. But it was worth it because the next day the race was going to begin
As the cars were prepared before we could just jump into our cars and move for free 30 min practice. This was the worst part of the day as I took the practice quite differently than I was supposed to and got not one people angry. I had never sat in that modified car before - wait! This leads to the car change I wanted to talk about. As I pointed in the past I was meant to drive Škoda 120 LS. But the weather was so bad raining really a lot we swapped the cars and I took Škoda Fabia 1.4 MPi in stock.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed. But it was for a good reason and trying the RWD historic car for the first time on wet track is a nonsense. At least the Fabia was cut of ABS and all the electronic helps. So it was really only me and the car. With 44kw engine
So, the practice. I wanted to find out how the car behaves on its limits. That was mistake. The practice was designed for many cars on track. It didn't look like that from my point of the view - I mean from the car - but the team chief was really angry about my behavior on the track while faster cars were going to pass me. I always slowed down to let them go but it appeared I didn't gave them enough room and made not one driver to brake hard. I was surprised that I did so. But I was informed soundly about that and I am just glad nobody got hurt. I took big lessons from that - I am not taking this lightly. I misbehaved.
I was thinking of it long time after until I was supposed to drive my first race lap. The event is set from 2 races, where you do 3 split laps - 6 in total - and the worst from each race doesn't count. First race was on dry surface and I was losing a lot there. The car just couldn't compete against anyone on dry. It had no power at all!
But the second race it was different. It started to rain a lot and after few minutes conditions changed. And it was me who wasn't afraid to push the car to its limit again. Everyone was careful (except the top class but those are really experienced drivers). Even with FWD I did some great drifts! After a while I found the line between where the car goes sideways and keeps the traction. And I must point out that on spectators places I was pushing it more to entertainment the spectators. The weather was really bad, 0°C, strong wind and rain so not many viewers went to watch the race. But for those who did so I wanted to make them feel it was worth it. At least watching our class
I was still losing on straights so I wasn't much competitive again. But I got better by 1 place to be 7th in our class. And what I won? 3rd place in Junior cup.
So that was it. I am in time pressure and even now I hurry so the article was written really fast. I am sorry for errors then
Next race is in 3 weeks but I don't know if I participate in that one. More likely is in a month event in Sosnová.
P.S.: I am sorry but there will be no video montage. Due to weather my father didn't record anything even photos weren't taken from the action. And onboard camera wasn't properly attached :/
