Try using the ALT version.
\ My Documents \ rFactor2 \ User Data \ player \ settings \ Meganes2009 \ M2009_01ALT.DDS

That is the name ISI supplies in their info thread. I must say that I have not tested it.

There is one other way, but that's a bit more complicated. Let me know if it still does not work with the ALT name, and I will try to make an instruction how to test.

Update:

Newer version released

Fixes:

1. You can now check for updates from within the LiveMonitor (Extras->Check For Updates or CTRL+U)
2. Extras section, gives a basic guide on the Sequence of Data Logger
3. Logger resumes automatically if it find any non-fatal errors.
4. LiveMonitor.dll gives exclusive permission to LiveMonitor.exe for R/W access
5. Hotlaps only recorded for Players

This is where i saved it:
C:\Spill\rfactor2\Installed\Vehicles\Meganes2009\1.0\M2009_01ALT.dds

Then you start the game, choose Renault Megane Trophy, click on tuning and custom skin!

I tried your suggestion, Joakim but, it only worked up to a point. That is; it let me select the car but the skin appears black(ish)/reflective with the colour of my skin design only in the reflection on the floor. It is the same if I take it on track, too.

Any further suggestions??

I have only used the methods that I have used successfully for Simbin mods. I went herre http://isiforums.net/f/showthread.php/4040-Alternative-Historic-skin-problem to find others with similar problems and an array of suggestions.

I will try differing methods of DDS formats, I think.
