Fisker Karma (electric high performance)

Henrik Fisker, the ex BMW and Aston Martin designer and the relatively new CEO of Fisker Coachbuild was buoyant Monday as he introduced his production-ready Fisker Karma plug-in series hybrid luxury car, ready to roll into an expected 40 dealerships before year-end at an unbelievably approachable price point of $87,900 USD. Fisker hinted that 22 dealers were already on-board, all important ingredients to his goal of 15,000 Karmas delivered per year. According to Fisker, 1,300 Karmas have already been presold with deposits. Only 12 months from concept to reality the Karma doesn't appear to have changed one iota, which is a good thing as the gracefully penned super sedan is easily one of the most beautifully sculpted cars to come along in years.
The car will sport the same race-inspired aluminum space frame structure and the same plug-in series hybrid powertrain, boasting a small GM-sourced 2.0-litre Ecotec turbocharged four-cylinder good for 260-horsepower, but used for extended-range mobility via quickly spinning up the generator that feeds electricity to two rear-mounted 201-horsepower electric motors, making a combined output of 402-horsepower.
An exclusive lithium-ion battery pack replaces what would otherwise have been a driveshaft tunnel, improving on the highly polluting nickel metal hydride batteries currently used in today's hybrid cars. Capable of sprinting to 100 km/h under six seconds (0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds) and offering a comfortable cruising speed of over 200 km/h (125 mph), it's one electric vehicle buyers will get a charge out of.

-LS3 engines (420 and 500 bhp)
-LS7 (519 bhp)
-LS9 (649 bhp)
from GM, with the first two engines good for an overall weight of 970 kg, while the LS9 will add 30 kg, but with a 0-60 time of 2.9 secs and 7 secs for the 0-100, top speed 200 mph.

-Still from GM, the turbo V6 2.8 liter, good for 300 or 350 bhp (overall weigh of 850 kg).

The Superlight options, include lightweight V8 engines (95 kg) from Powertec:
-2.6 liter and 360 bhp
-2.8 and 450 bhp
-3.4 liter version good for 450 bhp
With these engines the weight is only 750 kg.
