Tried it and be warned - This is an utterly terrible and appallingly bad piece of rubbish.

Steam refund already requested after less than an hour - I really don't need to see any more.

Clearly just a lame arcadish console game for kiddies under 5.

  • Hideous straight console port.
  • Driving feel is terrible - cars feel slow and there's no realistic sensation of jostling for position in the pack.
  • Total lack of a tangible true Nascar atmosphere.
  • Cars defy the law of physics in a collision and are over resistant to bumping etc.
  • No obvious drafting of any kind.
  • Car animations poor and don't give the on edge feel of the real thing at all.
  • Yellow flags don't come out for major crashes.
  • No way to disable auto gears on my G27. Manual gears simply won't engage or override.
  • Doesn't recognize shifter either.
  • No button customization of G27 at all - it's just been set up for a G29 with no options.
  • G27 essentially not recognized - shows a graphic of the G29
  • No way to alter field of view/driver position, such that on triple screen there's a huge gap on the left screen where the window net should extend.
  • You can't access all tracks until you've got enough stupid speed points or whatever it is.
  • Horrible TV replays - just full of ghastly blurring

I'd actually go as far as to say that the awful Eutechnyx games were quite a lot better than this.

Certainly not worth 60 bucks, actually probably not worth 60 cents.

Sadly we must wait even longer for a successor to NR2003, which by the way plays infinitely better than this execrable pile of doggy do.

Praise the lord for the Steam under two hour refund.

Game is available and playable on Steam as of a couple hours ago. Been online just now with several people from MGI and others who purchased early.

Early Observations from someone who had high hopes for a good game.
  • Having to use steering wheel to navigate menus is annoying as hell

  • No way to force borderless windowed mode, even with third party apps (a huge negative for me as a Portrait/Landscape/Portrait setup for a 73" 'curved' display)

  • Multiplayer menus are pretty awful. I joined the one lobby open and just sat and sat. Eventually the ongoing race ended and i got a countdown to the next race. Would be nice to spectate, or at least see an indication of how long the wait for the next race is

  • This one is REALLY annoying -- all but 5 tracks are "locked" until you increase your "Speed Rating" at the start of the game.

  • Nobody is going to be mistaking screenshots from this game for the real thing. They're not "bad" they're just clearly not intended to be photo-realistic in the way most sims strive to be, even at max settings on a GTX1080 ROG STRIX GPU.

  • Multiplayer was a mess driving with people who had controllers and were swerving all over the place. Was having fun looping Watkins Glen until I encountered people who couldn't get through turn 7 without swerving from one edge of the grass to the other because they were on a gamepad.

  • Steering wheel (Thrustmaster TX with Ferrari 458 Challenge Wheel and T500 pedals) is completely lifeless at the default settings. I had more life in the steering 20 years ago when I was playing INDYCAR Racing II on a Thrustmaster T2 wheel!

Really disappointing so far. I took the leap of faith because MGI has made solid games in the past, and even bought all of the DLC but right now I feel like it was a waste.

NASCAR Heat (original) could feel quite realistic, or it could be an arcade game. This one just feels like an arcade game, at least in multiplayer!

This game actually feels worse than the previous "NASCAR The Game" titles, which I have owned and spent time playing all of.

I also have spent time playing the NASCAR DLC for Forza 6 and honestly would tell someone to get that over this if they wanted a decent NASCAR feel.

The one bit of faith I still have is that MGI has always been incredible with patches and feedback. They were still releasing patches for NASCAR Heat (original) a few years ago to help modders, etc. which is unheard of for a nearly 16 year old game. I don't want to be all negative without any constructive criticism, so stick with me here.

The graphics are what they are, and a patch won't change that. Perhaps some third-party tweaks with ReShade/SweetFX will help things down the road if people are interested enough to develop them. It's clear the focus was on other aspects than overhauling the graphics from the NTG series of games. With that said, the car models and textures are well done and should look good on a wide range of PC's with varying system specs, so credit to MGI on that.

Some sort of wheel calibration has to be added. I was shocked at how little I could do to customize my wheel. Can't change which buttons do things like change the HUD and only have a few sliders for Degrees of Rotation, FFB and Sensitivity to experiment with to try and get some life in the wheel when driving. Right now, there is no sense of connection with the road at all.

Instead of pulling the Degrees of Rotation from my wheel's profiler, offer me a chance to calibrate the axis (turn left, turn right to full lock then repeat at say 90 degrees left and right) and show me that you are using the full resolution of the wheel.

Multiplayer hosting should allow the host to require a steering wheel. Races just will not go well when you're mixing folks on gamepads with people racing with a wheel and pedals. There is no question, there are some VERY good drivers who play with gamepads but give the host the option to require things like a steering wheel. Even better if DMR/MGI can take it one step further and allow us to be more granular with the rules, as well, to restrict things like driver aids and force a cockpit view.

The lack of a dedicated server option for multiplayer could be a downfall for online racing. I have a server where I could, and would, host a constant server looping through the tracks unattended. Having users "host" races from their own connections can be a disaster. Was really hoping we'd see dedicated hosts in the lobbies, plus the ability to see things like ping, geographic location, etc.

Please accept this criticism as constructive, because my goal is not to destroy your sales. The product can be improved if the developers don't take the approach of other recently released "simulators" where what you bought is what you've got and don't expect any improvements.

If anyone has suggestions on how I can modify settings to correct some of my complaints, please share them!

Okay, for those who may need it, here's the controller profile for the T500RS.
Circle = A - Accept/Advance
X = B - Cancel
Triangle = X
Square = Y
L2 = Pause/Start
Right Paddle = Shift Up
Left Paddle = Shift Down
D-Pad for menu control.
Just be sure to lower the sensitivity of the brakes in-game. Default will lock up almost instantly.
Oh, and since the game doesn't recognize digital axis the D-Pad will also serve as steering.
Meaning don't touch it in the race. :D

I agree with some of it, but I'm slightly more optimistic. :D
I'm rendering a first-look vid as we speak where I'll be talking about a lot of the same things.
Haven't tried multi-player yet, so I won't go into that.

Now, the graphics.
They're perfectly servicable IMO. I kinda like them to be honest, instead of these impossibly shiny cars with a huge number of post-proc effects that seem to be all the rage these days. To each their own, I suppose.
The upside is lower PC specs necessary, and a much smaller download.

The locked tracks are.......heinous, unforgivable and not fit for human consumption. :p
There is absolutely no need for this kind of console crap on a PC sim.
Having said that though, it doesn't take much to unlock them.

As for the controls, I think they may have forgotten to include the set-up files for the various steering-wheels......
If you think your settings were bad, try this:
My T500 didn't even get recognized. I couldn't even start the game before I had manually edited a text-file with the appropriate axes and button definitions.
Btw, the file you're looking for is in C:\Users\username\NASCAR Heat Evolution\ControllerProfiles.
There you can remap buttons, sensitivity and a host of other things, including mapping menus to your d-pad.
But I agree, there should've been a set-up/calibration function in the game itself.

I highly disagree about he FFB though. While it's not quite up to e.g. AMS or R3E it is perfectly servicable and I have no problems getting the car to do what I want.

In closing, I suppose it all depends on what one was expecting.
If you think this will be the spiritual successor to NR2003, then you're going to be sorely disappointed.
Think more along the lines of F1 2016, with semi-realistic physics and you're good to go.
IMO this game is much more about selling the experience than having a fully-fledged sim with all the bells, whistles and doodads.
And in that I think they've been pretty successful.
But again, this is early days yet, and I haven't even looked at the career-mode yet.

Oh my. This is quite frankly ****.

Remember Steam refund policy. Max 2 hours gametime, not more than 14 days after you bought the game.

And I didn't think it would be possible to make it worse than 2015, which was a skinpack for 2014.

How are the game options? Is there FOV or HUD adjustment? What about seat adjustment in cockpit?

I'm asking because I'd like to know how this works with triple screen...

I can`t believe the amount of games that are releasing with DLC already available at launch date.

it`s plainly not DLC, but features they should have in the game but decide to charge extra for.

£44.99 for the base game and already ~£16 worth of DLC? No thanks.

Had some hope for this one, unfortunately It does appear to be getting a lot of heat from unhappy people on Facebook and Steam... I might have tried it if it were cheaper and had good wheel support, but alas, no ...

Utterly dreadful. I bought it on Steam once and got a refund, only to discover via YouTube that features such as simulation and manual gear selection were inexplicably hidden in a two option advanced screen accessed by an X button press. Bought it again as I thought maybe I've judged it harshly, but got another refund as it was still terrible.

Honestly, this is a step backward from the appalling Eutechnyx games, it's that bad.

Squarely aimed at the five year old console audience. So disappointing as the hype suggested a worthwhile improvement over recent Nascar games.

The AI is more challenging, but not in a way that realistically replicates driving in a pack of 700+ bhp beasts. They are merely programed as road blocks. Worse still, the AI will almost always come out better off from any sort of clash with the player car. Truly woeful.

At least Steam's refund policy allowed me to try it at no risk, but really how does stuff like this get released to a discerning PC audience who are going to write toxic reviews from the get go.

Didn't buy any of the DLC, and frankly that tells us a lot about the attitude of this new developer, making a wide range of expensive liveries available on day one. Yuck.

Avoid.

Ha! I knew you'd end up buying it :D

So seeing as I’m at work and can’t listen to the audio, give us a clue... good ? Bad? Dreadful ?

My guess is the latter, but I'm an optimist by nature so remain positive :D
