I just recently got in to modding for personal use, and was running a few tests.
I've tried making some backmarkers advance to the midfield by editing database.bin. It's sort of worked. The AI qualify and race under midfield pace, but whenever I drive the car, it's on backmarker pace. For example, I'm significantly faster in a Williams than an HRT, despite the fact that for the AI, it's the other way around.
Is there something I'm missing? Are there any parameters in database.bin (or elsewhere) that control the pace of a team's car for the player and doesn't affect AI pace?
How I made HRT midfield: Increased basically everything in ai_driver table, adjusted fake_qualifying_ability and car_number in f1drivers, adjusted default_grid_position in f1drivers_f1teams, and in f1teams: changed engine_manufacturer, engine_power, garage_id, front_tyre_wear, garage_id (not sure why), rear_tyre_wear, stat_previous_year_standing, tier and virtual_performance
