I downloaded one of the mod ( Hot Hatch one ) and the way it is done for the driver's suit and helmet is obvious.
Nothing in this case for the genstring as the .cas file doesn't show a choice possible.

In each skin and .car folder there's a .rcd file of the driver mentioned in its .car file and using the driver name there are 2 dds files: one for body and one for helmet.
As, in GTR2, a loose file has a priority on a .gtr file .... the fact that there are different loose files for each car is the way to let for each driver its personal suit and helmet appear in game replacing the single original one in a .gtr file or another .rcd file in the Talent folder

They also might have chosen another way : creating a new HOT_Hatch_talent.gtr file containing all dds for helmets and suit and in this case adding
MASFile=HOT_Hatch_talent.gtr in the .cas file.

Are you sure that their mechanics also have different suits ?

EDIT: not tried yet but I know now where to finnd the trick for the crew.
Find here ( I'm sure it is somewhere here at Overtake ) ModdingTutorialRictusGrin.rar
In Basic Editing at the end of the instructions you'll find a link explaining how to do that. ( Changing Drivers suit & Crew uniforms )

EDIT2:
For the Int_drivers styles in the .cas files and genstrings, they refer to loose files brought by GTR233 HQ Patch.
GMTs and dds are then installed in the Teams folder.
They don't need to be included in the mod as they are already at their usual path in the GTR2 files.

That's useful information.
I did try placing all the helmet / suit dds in the car folders. as loose files. But I didn't include the .rcd
The .rcd i have only placed in the talent file.

So i'll try placing them as loose files in the car folder.

I had duplicated the helmet and suit dds into the talent folder with the .rcd.
And I created a specific TALENT.gtr for the series. Linked into the .CAS

This worked for the driver suits and helmets, but not the pitcrews. which is where I've been stuck.

I'm going to read through those EDITs you've suggested and try going through everything again.
Thanks for that.

If you find the link to the mod showing pitcrew with different suits and helmets according to the car or team, please send it to me in private.
I'm really curious about how they managed to do it.

Turns out i had downloaded that Modding Tool rar file last year and had completely forgotten about it. It was tucked away in my GTR2 MODDING folder .... If i find the relevant details I'll post them here.

A note about talent files - the game will read them wherever it finds them in the gamedata folder, sorting them in folders is only for us poor humans; it will also give priority to those loose files over any packaged in a gtr file. And the game differentiates them by the driver name in the first line of the file, the file name means nothing; so if you have the same driver in different series and want them to have different stats in each series you must be creative with the driver names (for example, Mario Andretti, M Andretti, M_Andretti, etc.); otherwise the game will either load the first one it reads and ignore the rest as duplicates or retain the last one it reads, overwriting previous reads (opinions differ on which occurs). If there is no talent file for a particular driver the game defaults to a set of hardcoded stats which is rarely optimum for anything but average default cars.

Good info, thanks.
