Lewis Hamilton says his relationship with Fernando Alonso is now reciprocal

"My relationship with Fernando has got a lot better," he told F1 Racing magazine.

"Finally we've got past 2007 - more so on his side than on mine. It seems that he finally appreciates me as a driver, as I appreciate him. It's equal between us now.
"I believe he's the best and he said that in Brazil about me.
"I love that he has that respect for me, because I have that respect for
him."

I think Fernando is playing a bit with Lewis. He knows that Lewis is still quite naive, no matter how tough he's looking into the camera with his Gangsta-Rap-sunglasses.

If it was 5 races before the end of the season and Lewis and Fernando battling it out for the title, you'd never hear anything like this and Fernando would probably hail another driver. I'm not reading too much into that.

I don't think Alonso is playing with Lewis.

Since 2007 both of them have huge respect of the other one. I actually don't belive that Alonso ever had a problem with Lewis. Alonso's main problem was Ron Dennis and Lewis was just the person standig between the two.

Metal is right.

The reason Alonso says this is because it´s now 5 years since 2007 and he has fully come to terms of what the 2007 season presented and he actually realized that despite being a rookie, Hamilton was as quick, as consistent etc.

Two magnificent drivers that have realized just how great the person was they were teammate with.

To me this whole appreciation-thingy looks like the two biggest losers since the massive rule-canges in 2009 (HAM,ALO) are hailing each other to compensate for the fact that Vettel is grabbing what really counts - World Championships.

And when I say losers I don't mean it in a primitive way. Hamilton is wasting his talent since years now (given his first season and the team he should've won at least 2 championships although there was a lot of bad luck on his side aswell) and Alonso had 2 really big opportunities to get that 3rd title and lost out to Vettel twice.

I´ve read this alot....but please tell me...how in the world is this compensation?

At the end of the day, Red Bull sits with 3 titles and no matter what anyones says, that´s the fact.
Are you honestly alluding that ALO/HAM would be so jealous over Vettel that they would pump themselves up without even talking to each other?

Or are you assuming this is something they have setup like, "hey Hamilton, let´s talk good about ourselves so Vettel will get mad"

As if that would have any impact whatsoever.....

Of course it has got an impact - not on Vettel, but on the public opinion.

Alonso has proven more than once that he's into every kind of politics and manouvering, no matter how dirty, misleading or inappropriate it is. So by saying HAM is a better driver than Vettel and his biggest rival for the new season, Alonso doesn't really overstep any of his own limits in terms of dirty tricks.

I remember when he said that Michael Schumacher would be his main rival for the 2011 season in a pre-season interview - and at that time neither the Mercedes nor Michael looked like they could possibly step up to that level.

Sorry for my english btw.

And for the 2011 season i presume Vettel and Hamilton were devastated?

Oh they weren´t? Maybe it´s because what one person says has ZERO effect on the actual outcome of the championship........................

You still don't get what I'm trying to say...

OF COURSE the things Alonso says about Hamilton do not have any effect on the outcome of the championship. When did I say anything like this?

What I'm saying is: Just because Alonso says something like this, doesn't mean he's honest about it or that he's saying this without any second thoughts.

How I read the last few posts of Daniel:

"Drivers must be disrespectful dickheads to one another unless they win championships."

Really ?

No. How I read the last few posts of you and Hampus:

"Everything Alonso says about Hamilton is completey honest and he would never say anything about anyone without having any second thoughts."

Seems a bit naive to me.

I'm not saying that what he said is bulletproof, only Alonso and Hamilton know wether they think it or not.

But what if people would stop finding demons all the time to dumb down drivers they don't like or stir controversy ? Incredible to witness the destructive nature of the classic "armchair psychologist".

Why would he lie? What is the thought process behind that now that we have agreed that whatever someone says will have no impact on any championship.

And you have no problem putting up reasons for why he would lie?

The strongest driver? It is a personal opinion, not political, not to make people think something. Who is the strongest opponent, the strongest driver on grid? Who is the one you have to keep an eye on? It is Hamilton - and it will still be Hamilton next year."

I'm not any kind of psychologist, and I'm not trying to dumb down anyone especially because I was a fan of Hamilton for years, I probably still am although it's hard for me to see what direction his career has taken but I do believe that all the flattering coming from Alonso isn't completely and 100% honest. Given all these things he has done in the past (betraying his own team, moaning about not having a #1-status, lying, probably knowing about the Briatore-plan in Singapore 2008, asking for teamorders in 2010 and then denying to have done so etc. etc.) I simply feel like the repetitive statements about Hamilton being a better driver than Vettel are simply one of his mindgames and only he himself knows the reason for that.

Fernando Alonso has singled out Michael Schumacher as his biggest rival for this year's world championship crown, despite the German's poor 2010 season.
Ferrari's Alonso was runner-up in the drivers' championship last year.
Meanwhile, Schumacher, 42, finished ninth in his Mercedes in his first season back since retiring in 2006.
But Alonso insisted: "There will be five world champions on the track and the most dangerous champion for me is always Michael."

Tell me, why should Alonso say anything like this before the 2011 season, especially when he should've known that his main rivals would be the Bulls and the McLarens again - just like the year before.
