PC1 Latest Build testing.

Andy_J

I hate Race cheats ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
As you all know, Ian gave me a free pass to test the latest builds and that's what I have been doing for the last week. I will report here as and when I see fit to tell all about my findings.

But I will say that the latest build (296) is quite good. Now lets make some sense of my statement. I used a Lotus 98T in helmet cam using my antique MOMO red wheel and I can honestly report it is coming along much better than I anticipated. The actual feel and immersion is damn fine at this point. The handling is strange at first compared to say...RF2 and FVA, but it grows on you within minutes. At this point in time, this actual car feels good. I like it and I love the Milan circuit. The damage model has come on leaps and bounds.

I am doing some more testing all of next week using a G27 and I will also test some of the other cars that don't interest me as much (I am a F1 nut) and see how the feel in comparison to Shift 2, because that is what I was initially comparing PCars to.

I would like the replay function to have a directors mode though. Something that jumps from action to action and from car to car.

Aside from that, the replay's do crash my PC quite often but I understand that is being looked at.

Watch this space.

And looks like physics department got a good one in today, should be in tomorrows build ?

" Got carried away again and ended up with a massive check-in.

BMW M1 Procar: New suspension geometry matched to the car. Shift tolerances. Revised aero model with more accurate range of downforce from min to max. Set ride height ranges and bump stops. Recalculated ARB stiffness. Narrower front and wider rear tires, matching original spec Goodyears.

BMW 320 Turbo: Better front strut geometry. Shift tolerances. Currently using new Zakspeed Capri aero as the two will be pretty close in the end. Recalculated ARB stiffness. Retuned suspension and fixed some bugs in the chassis setup. Set ride height ranges and bump stops.

Zakspeed Ford Capri Gr.5: Better front strut geometry. Shift tolerances. Recalculated ARB stiffness. Same (adjustable) damper units front and rear (interesting quirk of the real car). New default setup. Set ride height ranges and bump stops. New aero using some basic CFD to get an idea of the min and max CL we could expect from the rear wing. These old cars weren't very efficient, aerodynamically, but it appears they did manage to produce a good chunk of downforce for the time.

80s GT Slick R2: New default tire for the above three cars. This is Doug's tire with a touch more grip and all our new heating methods turned on. It really brings this tire to life and removes some of the infinite grip feel. Makes all three cars quite a challenge - the turbos much more so than the M1 - and has put the performance level almost exactly where I think it should be.

Renault Clio Cup: Initial pass at physics. Engine, gearbox, aero, suspension are all about right but will surely see lots of tuning. Little bit slippery at the back upon turn-in when the tires are cold. Give it one or two laps before really pushing hard.

GT/LMP/TC tires: New revision attempting to cure the main flaws that came out of the week 33 CPFT. Namely, instability under braking and bad reaction - particularly two-wheeling - over curbs. Put simply, this revision moves back to much more of a strict radial construction. The contact patch does its best to stay very even on the track and is not as disturbed by high inclination (camber, glancing curbs, etc) and lateral forces as before.

All tires: Put my track rubbering settings in as default for all tires. The previous default was for an across-the-board 3% reduction in grip on a green track, such as what you get free practice. New numbers are less than 3%, and the amount varies on the type of grip. Adhesive types are affected more than deformation grip. Wear rate actually reduces as the track rubbers in and 'fills in' some of the rougher areas."

So lot's of new stuff to test :)

Well I have been testing the Lotus open wheeler at the Nord and it was sublime. I really enjoyed it. The sound of the engine is great and the handling is great if not a bit too easy compared to GP Legends. Well you can't compare actually. Different breeds. I now prefer Pcars for this car.

It's coming along nicely. One of my screenshots is now my windows wallpaper too. Great stuff.

I think you are out of luck then.

It's starting to look bloody good! I even managed to jump start my Z4 after stalling it! what other game can do that!!!
I'm very impressed with what I just experienced!

Project cars looking very nice these days! look at the detail in the environment. Look at those reflections in the paintwork! These cars are much harder to drive than their Assetto Corsa counterparts. Of course, was on pro mode with all aids off. This BMW Z4 just was just itching to swap ends!

Not sure why 360p only available? I uploaded in 1080!
It makes the 360p version available first and then starts encoding the other resolutions, they become available as youtube gets done with encoding, so just now I was able to watch your vid in HD.

Edit: Also; I fully agree on pCars, it's coming along really nicely! I have fallen in love with the Ruf RGT-8, I hated it at first but then I figured out how to handle it, now I can manage but I still mess up very often, but by god it's fun when I make it stick :p

I just went in and tried the M3GT, M3GT4, M3 e30 Touring Car and Mustang 302r (a gt4 equivalent). I had read that Ben Collins thought the M3GT was the best car in game right now so that is why I focused there.

Yes-- the M3GT is feeling very lively and very nice. It has quite a bit less grip than before but an improved feel for sure. You really ought to try it if you haven't recently!

The M3GT4 feels better than it ever has before-- by quite a margin. More stable than the M3GT but also livelier feel than earlier versions. Nice!

The e30 M3 Touring Car feels very good too. You can feel the rear end moving but it doesn't snap around violently and is light on its feet.

The Mustang 302R on the other hand seems to have way too little rear end grip. Power on oversteer at the drop of a hat. I really like the car model and the general feel but the current version definitely needs more rear end grip. I posted this at WMD and saw that several mods there had already mentioned this too.

just based on my experience w/ the z4 in both AC & iracing, not sure i like the sound of it being relatively difficult to drive...

are they still aiming for a 2014 release?? im doing pretty well at keeping my expectations low but so much potential. either way really looking forward to it.

Got fooled on this one, important on tire testing:

"Tire selection in the on-track setup menu is all messed up.
Avoid that feature until further notice and only change tires in the front end menu."

"The tires you start the session with stay on the car, no matter what it says. However! It does seem that if you change tires on-track and save the setup, the change you made there will be applied next time you load a track. As I said...all messed up."

In short, until bug is fixed :Select tire before entering track ;)

  • Yes, but only if the price is right

  • No, a generic wheel is fine
