Its common for many online subscription based games. I've played a number of online games over the years, Warbirds, Aces High, WWII Online etc and I'm pretty sure all of those auto renew. Online services such as webspace providers do it too.

The easiest thing to do to stop any ill feeling from users is to send out an email shortly before your subscription is renewed. I'm not sure if iRacing does this I can't remember but I do know that the fact the subscription is automatically set to auto renew is prominently displayed on the membership login in section. While iRacing could have handled it better by sending out a reminder email I think you really should have been more careful reading the terms and conditions when you signed up.

Iracing do send an e-mail 2 weeks before your subscription wil renew.
At least I got this e-mail:

Dear Nico Verbelen,
Thanks for subscribing to iRacing – we hope you enjoy using the service as much as we do. We want to remind you that your one month subscription will auto-renew in a couple of weeks. If you would like to continue your membership month-by-month you don’t need to do anything*. If you would like to save some money you can take advantage of our longer term memberships which offer substantial savings and even more iRacing credits.
· Renew for 1-year and you will receive $60 of iRacing credits
· Renew for 6-months and you will receive $25 of iRacing credits
· Renew for 3-months and you will receive $10 of iRacing credits
.....

But another thing you can do is using paypal to make your payments then they can not automaticly renew.

*If you used PayPal to join iRacing your membership will not auto-renew. Please visit the my account section of the member site, click change subscription and then renew early in order to keep uninterrupted service.

"Wrong" default setup

Default setup for Lotus seems to be terribly wrong. At least from Ramon's tuning guide point of view. Everything from brake balance to differential coast and tyre pressure. Moreover, the car feels very unstable and oversteers everywhere.

So either Ramon's guide or the setup is wrong. Can someone explain?

Neither is wrong, the Lotus has ground effect and therefore runs some weird settings. At slow speeds you'll have little grip but once you get faster the grip will really build up thanks to the huge amount of downforce. Run the medium downforce setup and go from there - that's what I usually do.

I'm deaming about the Lotus... D license still... But I'm enjoying so much the skip and the mazda. Great open wheelers!!!!

But november 2nd I'm gonna go for the C class and I think already over the 4.0 barrier, so Lotus here I come... But if Indy Lights or IndyCar comes in the same class, I'm gonna seriously consider them... :)

iRacers with High Safety Ratings Get In-Season Upgrades

No one likes to wait, and beginning next month with the start of 2009 Season 4 iRacers who achieve a safety rating of 4.0 and fulfill minimum participation requirements will no longer have to wait for the end of a 12-week season to be promoted to the next higher license level – they’ll be automatically promoted immediately and eligible for all the benefits of their new license.

“It seems fair that drivers who demonstrate a really superior ability to race safely should be able to advance their licenses at a faster rate,” said Dave Kaemmer, iRacing’s CEO. “We’ll maintain our standard end-of-season promotion schedule for racers who have at least a 3.0 safety rating, but less than 4.0. This new FastTrack option provides additional incentive for clean driving.”

Kaemmer noted that new automated program also provides for a swifter penalty for drivers who exhibited really bad driving habits, including in iRacing’s Pro series.

“The incentives for good driving are both positive and negative,” Kaemmer noted. “Drivers whose safety ratings drop below 1.0 at any point during a season, including participants in the Pro Series, will be demoted immediately to the next lower license level. This is a pretty serious penalty for a Pro license holder; there won’t be any FastTrack promotions to Pro status, so they’ll also have to wait until the next year before they can be eligible again.”

Holders of C and B licenses are eligible for mid-season promotion and demotion under the FastTrack program. D license holders may be promoted but are not subject to demotion, while A and Pro license holders are subject only to the demotion part of the program. Rookie promotions are unaffected by the FastTrack program; those promotions will continue to take place every four weeks.

Complete details of the FastTrack license promotion program will be added to the Sporting Code prior to the program’s implementation at the start of 2009 Season 4.

My feeling is that iRacing may in part be doing this to encourage the purchase and participation in higher rated series. While it's true that many have purchased cars ahead of time, they just could not run them until they reached the appropriate licensing levels. Accordingly, this will most likely result in an increase in the fields for each series.

My issue with this is that the seasonal promotion schedule allows time for drivers to gain additional experience over a reasonable time. Unless I'm mistaken, with this new FastTrack program, after an individual serves the 12-week rookie program, they will be able to go from a class D license to an A class in a matter of days, or even hours possibly. While this is fine if that's what they want, it diminishes the importance of the licensing program, and IMO, iRacing should abolish the licensing program in favor of having just three levels. Those would be Rookie, Regular Driver, and Pro level. At that point, the emphasis would be on iRating to keep the fields competitive and as safe as possible for the better drivers and serve as an incentive for others to drive more carefully and make better decisions on the track.

The SR system, IMO, is flawed in that it's based on a no-fault system. For me personally, the vast majority of my incidents have been caused to me rather then by me. However, with this system, if you hit someone else, albeit unintentionally, you get the same SR penalty as the driver who hit you. I think that borders on unreasonable. That coupled with the sim's inability to repair damage, as was possible in NR2003, now six years old, can serve to end a race for someone very early on with the additional burden of taking a hit to SR and IR, making for a very frustrating experience.

Me & James both got taken out by "stupid people" at the start of a Lotus 79 @ Indy race, we both managed to reset at the same time and came out the pits after a reset and decided to see how far we could get back up the remaining field. This is how slipstreaming should be done! We got back to 3rd & 4th.

HD is recommended :D

Self praise is the best form they say :)
A bad work man always blames his tools just like a bad race driver always blames others ie "stupid people" :)
Nice vid!

I really think this is the right thing to do. I'm only talking about promotion when you hit 4.0 in a class. I'm not talking about that crazy automatic demotion for pro and high class drivers.

But even though, I think people should get less SR for perfect racesm, so they could progress a little slower maybe...

But that's only on ovals, on roads we get easily .15-.20 for a completely clean race. And why is that I already saw class B and A drivers getting .16 on ovals even with 4 incidents? Are you sure you are racing with the car of your class, James? I had that issue when I was driving the legends but with D license to get to the Silverado without getting the late model...

I've only been racing the SK+Latemodel - and while I am class C and could race the Class B or something like that, I don't like those cars so I prefer to race stuff from the lower classes. If I raced the Silver Crown I could get a bigger increase, but it still wouldn't be much. I've usually found road is a bigger increase compared to oval - even if I run a Solstice race I'd get more SR than if I ran an SK race. Another problem with smaller increases for clean races would be if you are trying to gain SR back after someone crashed into you then it would take a lot longer to do, which is hardly fair if you were not at fault in any way in a previous accident.

I'd prefer if they left it how it is at the moment and just added the fastrack stuff to that. Only 2 improvements I could think of - Pro can stay below 1 for a week, if they don't improve by then they lose their pro license. Also you have to be at 4.99 + meet your MPR to get instantly promoted.
