Awesome pics sander! Just took the Jetta out on Road Atlanta and that track is a lot of fun, can't wait to start racing on it. Here are some pics from a Jetta Race at Road America, I'm in the Green #15 car and Simon is in the White #15. It was a very fun battle, several position changes in the last 2 laps, Simon won it with an awesome pass around the outside at the carousel on the last lap. This car has been some of the best racing I've had in iRacing so far, lots of close touring car action.

Just subscribed!

Well guys I just bit the bullet and subscribed, took the $60 for 6 months + free Lotus 79 F1 package.

I figured that was a pretty good deal for the opportunity to get my feet wet online for basically 1/2 price and also have a play with the Lotus in the Testing area.

Looking forward to it!!

Snowy :)

Welcome to the club :thumb:

I recommend to get started by reading the user guide & sporting code after you completed the quick start guide (which you will be guided through automatically once you start).

Those are quite big documents, but contains basically everything you need to know :)

You can find these under 'References'.

Welcome :)

You'll have a blast, but like most people will soon find the Safety Rating a real frustration, best advice is to drive within your limits and get as much SR as you can before you get promoted to D, because SR becomes a hell of alot harder to get as you go up.

Also, Rookie races are just that Rookie races, there's a chance you'll be in races with people who may not of even practiced, so just be aware.

Next thing to do, buy the Jetta and a few of its tracks and then get your license to D :)

Thanks for the welcome and advice guys. Yeah Sander, there's quite a bit of reading there for sure. Between setting up, reading up and doing some practice laps in the Solstice around Laguna, I just chewed up about 7 hours of my Sunday, lucky I had a lazy day with not much else to do. :)

James, yeah the Jetta is my kind of car (I'm a VW fanatic, in my avatar you can see my Golf GTI!), I'll be grabbing that for sure.

Just getting a handle on this Pontiac Solstice at the moment, it's a bit of a sluggish beast, but good to cut your teeth on I guess, definitely need keep momentum up in the turns with her.

Quite impressed with the ease of setup for my G25 when running through the Quick Start Guide, they've done a great job with this whole idea I think, and the feel of the sim is quite impressive too!

Cheers,

Grant :)

The Solstice is one of the best cars I know of for learning how to drive quickly, this is mainly down to the fact that it has little power and you have to keep the speeds up through the corners to have any chance at a good laptime. Also if you are able to control it sliding you should be fine in most other cars. The Solstice is maybe a little easier now that it has ABS, but the real car does so its also more realistic - can still slide around on the brakes though so don't brake too close to the grass :p

I take it you are running full rotation? If you do that iRacing will scale it for each car for you so you'll never need to adjust it again :)

Yeah James I have the rotation set to 900 degrees in the Profiler Software it feels pretty good.

I have the G25's stick shifter set to sequential and noticed the shift point of the transmission is a bit vague/sluggish. It seemed to feel more positive with Auto clutch OFF and Auto Blip OFF.

Did you guys find the same thing?

Grant. :)

It will be in the Solstice - or any of the H pattern cars if you run them in sequential mode. Best thing to do is switch over to H pattern and use the clutch for the cars that are meant to use that - Solstice, Lotus, COT, Impala Class B, Silverado and I think the Spec Racer uses that too. Rest are sequential, Skippy has no blip/ignition cut so you need to lift off and the Jetta uses the DSG gearbox so flat changes and you can only shift down below a certain RPM - means its very hard to damage the engine though. Turn auto blip/auto clutch off.

Formula Mazda

I was racing last night @ Sebring and i was wondering how do you know which class/licence the guy infront of you has?(normally it says on the number plate but a Mazda doesn't have a number plate.

Also how much fuel should you put into the car for the race?(i'm in gallons)
