I think the skip barber at Brands Hatch would be fun

+1 there.

The Skippy is one of the nicest cars to drive in iRacing I reckon, ay any of the road tracks. It just has a great feel to it. I've just started with it this season and plan on sticking with it next season as well, regardless of license levels. It will keep me happy for quite some time to come.

Cheers,

Grant :)

Steve Myers Interview

Interest in this bit really

Q5. OK This one you can skip if you want, but what’s planned for release in the next build? :)

I generally don’t like to talk too much about what is going to be released in the next build until closer to the actual release, but I will talk quickly about some of the things we are working on.

The biggest project we are working on is the NASCAR Hall of Fame project. It’s really shaping up to be a slick modification of our software to meet the needs of the Hall. It will be the exact same software that we run on the member site but it allows the Hall to essentially run on its own. The reason this is a big deal to our existing customers is because our branding is all over this. Every person who tries the simulator at the Hall will be walking away with a sheet of paper with their lap times or race results and that directs them to visit our website to sign up for a discounted membership to our service.

One of the projects involved with the Hall of Fame project is creating a replay client that allows us to connect to a race and not impact it in any way, which will ultimately lead to us being able to broadcast races.

We are working on a more realistic transmission model and updating as many cars as we can with a new aero model and a tweak to the tires similar to what we did on the IndyCar, ‘Vette and Star Mazda last season.

One project that is a much longer term project is we are going to replace our sound engine with a new one. This may not even make it into the build after next but we will have a much-improved system released in the next six-eight months.

Dave continues to work on a new tire model, some of which may make this next build but the more significant changes are still a ways away.

We will also be putting in place the ability for our customers to use third party painting applications to create their own paint schemes exactly like we used to do with our Papyrus products. It will be up to the members to share these paint schemes—our system will not do that.

We also have a significant amount of work to do to crown our first World Cup of iRacing-winning club in the beginning of next year, which should be very exciting.

Q6. What are your thoughts about endurance racing? Do you feel that endurance racing could be a major selling point in iRacing?

We definitely plan on having endurance races in iRacing in the future. I won’t make any promises as to when that will happen, but I expect it will be in the next year. We are going to start planning to have more special events this year and at some point we definitely want to run 12 and 24 hour endurance races complete with driver changes.

The majority of my time in iRacing was done on a G25 and I found it to be by far the best FF I'd experienced. I agree with the comments on ISI's FF and that is why so many tweaks are available and add-ons like 'realfeel' plugin because people were not happy with it. The combination of the high fidelity tracks and force feedback make me feel far more connected to the car than anything produced from ISI's engine.

Absolutely loving Brands Hatch

I just don't find the handling or FF in iRacing to be anything near realistic, whatever their hype and advertising department may claim.

Each to his own - I tried it again yesterday and still think it is pants, even with a G25 and after trying several different setups recommended on the iRacing forums. The tracks may be accurate, but the handling and FF are far from it.

I understand the occasionally rabid iRacing supporters getting a bit hett up when people dare to criticise their beloved 'sim'. Imho it is like the story of the Emperor's New Clothes (Hans Christian Andersson) - they believed the hype, they spent their money and only stupid people would say there's nothing there, eh? :)

If you don't like the feel of it that is fair enough. What isn't ok is saying the FFB IS bad because it isn't - your first post seemed to imply this. There is no other way to say it than the ISI games use pre defined effects which are just the same whatever happens. iRacing is completely different which is why it feels so different. Technically it is more correct to real life and therefore provides a much more realistic feeling. If you were to run in rFactor with reel feel and set on low ingame you would get FFB much closer to iRacing/netKar Pro rather than the normal ISI FFB. It uses forces at the steering rack rather than basing it off the grip levels and whatnot.

The other thing I don't like is people who think whoever plays iRacing is a fanboy. Its usually the other way around because the people who don't like iRacing, and then don't like the facts showing it is technically better, start attacking the people who pay for iRacing. All that shows to me is that the people who are aggressive towards iRacing members are actually afraid that it is a much better game and they just cant bring themselves to admit it. Its pathetic. However if you don't have a problem with iRacing members making a sensible and on topic reply to your post then don't bother posting in the first place.

The reason I posted earlier is because most of the time when people complain iRacing doesn't feel right is because they are running like 360 deg steering lock and running the FFB up way too high. Of course it will feel terrible then and the cars would be hard to drive. Fair enough if you've set everything up right but its a very common reason why people don't like it. If I had gone into the Race Series forum and said the FFB is terrible I doubt I would have had people explain why it isn't - the reason for that is they wouldn't have any facts to backup what they were saying whereas here we do. Its this that makes people think iRacing members are fanboys when in fact we are just better informed than some people.

Had you just posted the first 2 paragraphs of your post I wouldn't have even given this a second thought - that was fair enough as you expressed your opinion on the FFB. You don't like how it feels, fair enough. I hate how ISI games feel when I go back to them from iRacing, you're the other way around and that I don't have a problem with. What I was hoping was that you had made a mistake and set it up wrong and then tried again and it felt like it does to me and the others who subscribe to iRacing. It didn't to you and that isn't a problem. However what I don't like is people trying to say I'm something I'm not and going towards what I feel is a personal attack towards the iRacing members at RD.

Very well said James.

I don't post a lot in this or any other forum, but I do enjoy reading the discussions and I will post if I think I have something to add.

There's one thing I notice a lot of in the various forums, it is people who are "Anti iRacing" coming into discussion threads and attacking the sim itself, the business model they have and basically saying that the people who pay for it must be idiots and have been sold Snake Oil.

If people don't like the sim that's OK, but leave the rest of us to enjoy it without being stereotyped as rabid Fanboys.

Cheers,

Grant :)

Connor, posting opinion is fine but when you imply the other forum users opinions are somehow not valid by calling them "rabid" your own opinion loses weight. If we used your example that people only like iRacing because they "believed the hype, they spent their money" then we would all still be playing the first game we ever bought as we'd spent money on those. The far more simple and wholly logical explanation is that many of us play iRacing because we have tried it over an extended period and enjoyed what we've played and believe it is the more realistic program available with very good FFB.

A few Brands screenshots from the above Jetta race, primarily from positions that Simon and I have stood at over the last couple of years, starting with some of those nice little glimpses you get of the track from the walk in :)
