HoiHman Race Rig & Rims showcase

Having a lot of fun trying out EA WRC and i haven't even set it up properly yet.
The whole tactile set in Simhub still needs to be done properly, but i think i have the basics of the motion covered.

Fingers crossed EA supprises us with a proper VR release this week :)
(do not buy VorpX to try WRC in VR, because it sucks.....)

I did a full engine overhaul on the BMW trackcar a couple of months ago

IMG_20230820_124639.jpg

After that there was the mandatory run in period of 1500km, which is not fun which a car that's not ment to be driven on normal roads.

Yesterday i took to the track for the first time again. It was a wet day at Zandvoort, but that doesn't mean it's less fun.

Hello Just send you a DM.

Regards.

Nice BMW.

Do you notice any benefits from simracing that carry over into real life track? What do you typically do while simracing to help maximize your real life performance?
Thanks,

Sim racing helps a lot for getting to know the track layout and driving lines. Especially when you race in VR with laser guided tracks it feels like you already have been there, event though it's your first time on track in real life.

In real life you will be extra careful at those corners where you easily made a mistake in the sim.

On my very first lap ever on the Nordschleife i overtook 6 cars, which almost all had more horsepower and were potentially faster. I assume they were probably, just like me, driving there for the first time :D

So it definitively helps a lot, but it stops there.

In real life you can only go off once. The fear factor of knowing that one mistake can be very costly and/or very dangerous is a huge factor. Second the adrenaline makes the real thing so much different from the sim.

I did catch some slides in real life but i'm not sure if i would have lost the car of not without sim racing experience, since it is a natural reaction to what the car is doing.

To sum up, sim racing does help for preparing for track day on unknown tracks of big tracks like the Nordschleife.

Until now i always used a BMW M235i for trackday preparation, which in my case in not accurate at all because my track car is a BMW325i E90.

I know that there are several BMW E90 325i cup car competitions in real life, but could not find any downloadable cars for driving in AC.

Until today :)

The BMW E90 BaTCC 21 325i.

To download this car i had to join the World Sim Series first, since i could not find this mod on any website to install.

Once installed you can use it freely on any track you want with content manager.

Compared to real life it looks a little faster, because it has 230hp vs 225hp and a bit lighter since it's missing the passenger seat.

Top speed on the straight @Zandvoort is about the same a mine was on the last trackday, so overall a much better training tool than the BMW 235i.

Now i'm going to do some laps and it will be interesting to see how laptimes and speeds will be @Zolder since my next trackday at Zolder is next week.

If i really like this car, i might even take the effort to replicate livery of my trackcar in to the sim.

One of my favorite tracks in sim racing is Bilsterberg. Especially in R3E i have done so many virtual laps there.

The real life track is only a 4 hour drive from my home, so i booked a track day and a hotel so i would be wel rested. I arrived the day before with awesome shining weather and got a good look at the circuit most infamous corner with whopping 26% drop ( Eau Rouge is 'only' 17 % )

In real life the corner is pretty impressive and intimidating. The Bilsterberg park is one of the best looking circuits i have seen.

The next day we were not so lucky with the weather, after 3 dry laps it started to rain. So i had to learn the track in the wet and it was very very slippery :)

After 14:00 the rain cleared and around 15:00 we still had 2 hours with a dry track left. Even though the weather wasn't perfect, i had a great day and i'm looking forward to the next trackday in Bisterberg

i really like it - one of those amazing SIM -> REAL stories
running a track over years at the SIM and then experience the REAL stuff
a very great feeling

Been a while since i check in here, Awesome to see some laps on Nords and Blister, I also got to do my First Nords last fall along with a full day at Spa the following day, Both days, rain on and off and also had the harsh reality of leaning the wet line which was a flipping blast. but terrifying at the same time. Awesome to hear about blister, will be sure to hop on the rig for some laps this week.

Hi Nick , how are you doing mate?

Great to hear you are doing track days too  Bilsterberg was awesome and is very high on my list for next year.

Last week i visited the Nuerburg Ring, not the Nordschleife, but the GP track which was on my list too.
Touristenfahrten are only on Tuesday evenings and are very busy.

In 2.5 weeks i'm doing a full Nordschleife Trackday and like you Spa afterwards. Not the next day but 4 weeks later. Spa should be a nice closing of the season. Hoping for clear weather on both.

The rig is currently only being used as a training tool. It just feels wrong to driving an LMP car on the Nordschleife when i also spend that time in the rig with the same car i will be driving in real life preparing for the track day.

After Spa, when the season has ended, there no training needed and i will start driving random track and car combo's to just enjoy the motion rig :)

I love the Quest 3 in combination with Virtual Desktop.

Having virtual triples right in front of you with all there is just awesome. With a hotkey on streamdeck i can switch between VR and desktop and make adjustments on the SimHub Motion software. ( which feels pretty good to me )

I even tried Forza Motor Sport on the virtual triples and it worked actually really good.

The last couple of weeks this has been main view inside the Simulator

I have done dozens of virtual laps with the BMW E90 325i on the Nordschleife preparing the trackday this monday. :)

Even though the virtual car doesn't exactly scale the the real one, it's still a good training tool.

So far i haven't been blessed with good weather on trackdays, having wet session on Zandvoort and Bilsterberg. The big one, trackday Nordschleife looks to have the perfect weather.
