AC GT3 @ Road Atlanta, Sunday 21st March 2021

Assetto Corsa Racing Club event
I seem to struggle with low fuel vs. a full tank. I find it easier to handle the car with the extra weight - and only drive a low fuel car well as the fuel runs down rather than starting with a low-fuel car.

Question to the group: Does anybody else find it difficult to drive a low-fuel car?
Yep. It depends on the car though.
The tank location is pretty accurately simulated (although ac has no right/left offset for the center of gravity).
So the whole balance changes, depending on where the tank is in the car.
Some cars become oversteery, some become understeery.

Although with an adjusted for this, the low fuel car should always be easier.

What about laptimes? Are your laptimes with full tank better than with low fuel?

Porsche is notorious for this phenomenon due to having the tank in the front. That's what happens when you design your car backwards :D

Yep those overtake are the best ones :devilish: Patrick was sleeping at race start and didn't get off the line at all. This forced @HF2000, who started behind him, to evade him in some way. As we were at the left side of the track, the only way around Patrick was going to the right. The problem was, I, who started behind Han, was already beside him and giving him no room to get past Patrick. That was an easy and in the end important overtake for me.

Yes, my start had a triple scoop of :poop::poop::poop:. I blame [see avatar] for the lack of a rolling start . Apologies to Han for having to slow down because of my inept start :(.

It depends. Sometimes, but I have to get used to the lower weight first. It just seems like I lose the feel of the car when it's so light.
A heavier car is generally more sluggish and doesn't want to change direction as willingly as a lighter car. Maybe you like that more, but frankly (no pun intended) you're the first person I know who complains about handling of a lighter car. Usually it's the opposite. One of the things I like about the Audi is that somehow it seems to me to be less affected handling-wise by the fuel load compared to 488 I used to drive before. That one turned into a turd when you filled 'er up to the brim

It can be tricky to get the low fuel car : but it depends what you are driving and where you are. Furthermore AC is so well simulated I have to say yes there is a differenc for me and I have to regularly change my style in races (the ones I am lucky enough to survive or start). On the Nissan the more weight you have at the back the more confidence it gives you. However it also has a larger polar moment which changes the weight transfer characteristics at the limit and that can be devastating in the wrong place ; e.g. the big yellow runoff at the end of the esses at the Road America. You can't balance the car easily with a lot of fuel and the difference between good and bad balance on the same racing line is about 2 seconds everything else being equal. On other tracks like Austria it doesn't make that great a difference because the direction changes are not so violent in the fast turns (iff you have the car set right on entry).

Basically the linear and rotational inertia is proportional to the amount of fuel you have and this means you will get bigger slip angles per unit acceleration or torque under transient conditions (turn in). That can have good and bad effects depending on what you do.

It would be nice if Razza said something as I find him to be particularly skilled when it comes to weight transfers.

:) that is what I have learned so far in my travels

Edit : Razza has said something ...

No not the 488, maybe the 911.

I wish Kunos kept and improved their exiting gfx engine for ACC instead of that UE4 monstrousity. This shows what's possible to achieve with it. Imagine what could be done if you had access to the full source code of it instead of having to hack around machine commands and system calls.

It's genius isn't it ? I mean you know taking away the commercialism and giving us a base product to play lego with has created this monster sim that is like so "wow".

I completely agree with your feeling on this - but I am so glad our guys have control : I mean Ilja is soooo nice - I wrote to him the other day with some bugs right and he was busy and replied late apologising to me, with his new release asking me to check if it solved the problem! No arrogance, nothing. I was so happy and when this came out I wanted to share it with you all because I am such a fan of this project.

There is this really good car that someone has done where the brake physics and aero has been modded to acc levels (using just one tyre contact patch point per wheel however) and I want to try it and say something here later.

I stopped buying stuff and I try to always pay these great guys in the community because I respect and admire them so much.

Apparently now there is talk of an AC II that will use a KUNOS in house gfx engine.

I'll try and keep this topic updated.

Thanks Dmitry :)

Really getting to grips with this Ford Transit Van, I have actually found something I can keep up with for a change.
I am now down to sub 9 minutes on the Nordschleife - Endurance circuit.

On a more serious note, we have a Ford Van event and Mx5 event competing with each other, would it not be better to put the Mx5 on Thursday or the other way around.

It's not a RaceDepartment event. We can't really take into account events that other communities have scheduled.

What we can do, is listen to suggestions for events that will attract a lot of participants and organise one ourselves. I like the one time tribute idea.
This year it's the 60th anniversary of the race version of the Mini Cooper.
A race with 40+ Mini's somewhere would be a nice one imo.

And if you can spare the time, I can use some more testdrivers for the Reverse Grid test on Thursday.
It's on the Calendar with a link.

Regardless of the fact that I'm on a late shift on Thursday, & wouldn't make the race without changing my shift, I don't think I could face the Audi TT Cup car again for another hour. I've never liked it, & last week didn't change my opinion :( . Maybe others feel the same? Hence the low take up rate - I hope I'm wrong.

This is an other Audi TT version then last week but you don't like this one either?
I'd like to try this version to see if it's a good car to fill in the gap between the MX5Cup and the GT3's.

I agree with you that the Audi TT RS(VLN) from last week wasn't a joy to ride.

I didn't look properly*. I thought it was the same car & because I didn't particularly enjoy the last race @ Zanvoort (a track I like), I might've even be doing a disservice to the Audi TT RS (VLN). Maybe it was the lack of a decent setup or/& practice.

*Edit: I wasn't aware that you were also testing possible cars, I thought the object was to test the championship mode in simracing.gp - I wouldn't have been as forthcoming with my biased opinion about the Audi.
