AC GT3 @ Kyalami - Sunday 27th October 2024

Assetto Corsa Racing Club event
Thanks for organising Brian, I had a steady race, a nice battle trying to keep Rob at bay but that was futile with his strong pace. I had a couple of shaky laps mid race that put me off the lead battle but happy with P3 overall.
Well done Rob and Ernie, great driving.

Thanks for organising, Brian, I'm glad I gave it a go.

In practice I managed to find some pace but didn't get a clean qualifying lap so started at the back.

Great start and took advantage of early mistakes and found myself in p3 and managing to keep pace with Ernie and Paul ahead for several laps.

Rob caught me up as he recovered but I managed to keep him behind for a lap or two until the inevitable overtake.

The rest of my race fell apart with some spins and an early stop which was a big mistake, I should have ran much longer and made the most of lower fuel.

In the end I finished 2nd last and lapped by p1 and p2.

Lots to learn and I had fun.

The Lux is... slow. Tried to make some screenshots from the replay but alas it got corrupted when my machine crashed on round end. Did almost get into the 1.43's and my pace was definitely getting there. Car definitely got better as it burned off some fuel and some tires but it never felt fast. At round start everyone just drove away from me, managed to drive through the few cars spinning, and then I was too scared to brake a bit for the big fast right hander and thus lost the car. At this point it was just hotlapping and not even getting any proper tow because the engine and gearing is just so crap.

Still was fun, bit boring driving on your own though.

It was a challenging race on my end. Ernie had a great start and my defensive line into T1 resulted in some contact with someone (a NSX - Patrick maybe? My apologies for the contact) and a spin.

The BMW was really quick, but not in the ways that promote easy overtaking. It's great in the braking zones and curbs, but the Corvette and M4 easily pull away on the straights. It's fun to see how all of these cars different strengths and weaknesses match up. Great driving from Paul and Ernie - I'm looking forward to next weekends race!

Rambling of an old idiot.…….
It was a small community race that's for sure. [ just watched the replay ] it was a cracking race.
Douglas did a great job, but could do with some help with the car. Both Paul and Robert were mighty too. I got a very unusual good start with gave me a really good cushion to lie on. Without that cushion I would not have lasted long.
The Bayer was taking about a 1/10 of a second out of most straights in every 100m of straight. ( I am not sure what to do with this car, for all its ability on kerbs and drive out of corners and straights, it is a difficult beast to drive, maybe just lose its -50kg )
Nore do I think the Corvette should be 10% engine limit looking at the straight line speed of other cars. ( you cannot take any wing off to offset that situation either )
Casper was even in a worse situation than all of us, he could easily run with -100kg to get a fighting chance.
These cars are so different that the choice of car is more of a personal preference, I pick the Corvette for its ease of driving it, love the big BMW cars, but find the oversteer due to excessive unpredictable torque delivery and a not so good TC, difficult to live with, the rest are a bunch of bitty advantages and disadvantages.
My final thoughts,
Corvette restrictor 8%, 5kg ballast
Bayer remove the -50kg
Bayro leave as it is. ( another difficult oversteery car, if you can deal with it, you deserve its performance extras )
The rest need a lot of help.
Perhaps not the Lanzo as Reik will, maybe, driving that car, another thought perhaps we could put the aliens in that car.

I may need to go back and watch some of that replay. Maybe my perception of losing ground to you and Paul on the straight is just me getting a terrible corner exit?

Well done Rob - you were in a league of your own last night.

I benefited from the t1 chaos but after a few laps couldn’t hold the fast Corvettes of Pat and Brian behind. Doug and I were similar paces at the end/

It was interesting in the m6. So much more stable than the mid-engined cars but slow to turn in. It was much harder to unsettle; in both good and bad ways. It was awesome over the kerbs and the brakes were great once you closed the ducts. I would try it again at high speed circuits.

I don't think the BoP is too far off (with the exception of the Lexus). We all avoided the Porsche here as it was slow and found something that suited the track and our driving.

Pease share your thoughts I get things wrong far more than I get them right, oh!! the wonders of old age.:-/
I was half joking with that question Ernie. BOP is a tough subject. IMSA and WEC seem to get it wrong from time to time - and we're just a bunch of amateurs.

I was running the brake ducts on 50/50 because I couldn't detect much of difference. I think in the setup menu is says the number is "percentage closed", so 100 would be 100% closed off?

Yeah. that's how I interpreted it. Having checked I also ran 50/50. It made a big difference over fully open.

The car was decent but I made too many mistakes, as usual, it's pace and consistency I need. 😀
