Had an average qualifying session. I decided to qualify on primes and lapped 0.2 off my PB, had I matched my PB perhaps I could have been 1 or 2 positions higher but not too much difference would have been made.
The race was okay, but there were a lot of things that could have been better. At the start going through turns 1-3 I got a bit of a nudge from somebody, fortunately I only dropped a handful of positions which I made up at the start and it was nowhere near as bad as what happened to Jamie. Then heading into turn 5 I got hit off the circuit by Ash.
Starting on the primes put me on a different strategy to a lot of people so I was working on putting in consistent lap times to put me in the best position possible. I had a few battles here and there but nothing noteworthy that was massively entertaining. I was put off the circuit again about midway through the race going through turn 7 by Jamie. I had about half a car alongside his and then heading to turn 8 he moved over to get a wider entry arc which forced me off the circuit. In fairness, I probably shouldn't have tried such an opportunistic manoeuvre having been out of racing for a while.
Without these two incidents I think I would have been in contention to challenge Lynchy for 6th, but by the sounds of things he had his own incidents too so perhaps 7th/8th would have been a more realistic result. For a returning race, I don't think it was too bad but the pace of the front running drivers certainly surprised me, I didn't expect the gap to be that big. I guess if I were to take a full time drive I'd have to put in a lot of lappery to get back to the positions I want to be fighting for.
Thanks for the race guys, hopefully there's another space going next week at Bahrain.
In response to Josh; How can you say that's your championship chances gone? This was round 3 of 19, only a fool would say his chances are gone after one race so early in the season.
