So come on then has anybody had a practice at Catalunya yet? I had a bit of time late last night so did a 10 lap Time Trial stint just to get my bearings there again, followed by 10 laps in GP Mode with 10 laps of fuel and finished with a full fuel 10 lap run.

I was actually pleasantly surprised :) The chicane at the end of the lap that used to cause me so much trouble actually wasn't a problem last night… I spun at it just once and that was when I was really pushing it on my final TT lap. Apart from that I was getting through there pretty consistently. The ride height is important here so think maybe my previous problems through there were related to having that set too low. The areas that did cause me most problems were turn 9 and especially turn 10… turn 9 on full fuel had me running wide a couple of times and it's really easy to spin off of that left hand kerb and into the opposite wall. Turn 11 I just struggle to get the braking and turn-in right.. too often I am running wide onto the big outside kerb and losing precious time. Going to have a look at the track guide videos to see if I can pick up some tips on getting through there better. Tyre wear is always an issue here.. the long turns eat rubber badly and in my practice last night on full fuel I had the left front turn yellow on around lap 9. I am usually pretty good on tyre management but that is way too early so definitely need to find some time to work on that.

I had forgotten how fun this circuit is to drive. The super AI performance here obviously was clouding my memory of it but it's a nice track to drive with some really challenging sections. You can brake really late for turn 1 and carry so much speed through 2 and 3 providing you don’t drift wide on exit before another late braking job at turn 4. The split time comes up just before the turn here and I have lost count of the amount of times I messed it up there trying to sneak a peak at my split only to then run wide and miss my turn-in.. I learnt my lesson though and yesterday managed to avoid doing that apart form one occassion as I got to know the track again. It is easy to lose the back end through here though if you are too eager to get your foot down. Turn 5 is a good overtaking spot but also one where it's easy to end up in the gravel on the outside if you aren’t careful, I like to just kiss the inside kerb but it's another one where being too eager on the throttle catches you out and has the back end overtaking you :S. Getting it right gives you a good run down through kinky 6 and the exhilarating turn 7.. I love this one… early turn in using lots of the inside kerb is crucial to maintain speed, get it right and it's a blast as you get through there and head full throttle through 8 and head for the tricky turn 9. The AI are super fast through this bit, they generally disappear into the distance here…. you have to get the entry just right, using quite a lot of the inside kerb or you'll end up too wide on the exit and have to get off the throttle losing loads of time and as already explained it can send you head first into the wall opposite as well if you catch it wrong and try to accelerate out of it. Now 10 as I have mentioned is my biggest problem… I think I just leave the turn in too late for this one but once through it it's a quick left followed by a constant radius right which I enter in 3rd, gradually increase the throttle before hitting 4th and 5th before the tight right hander at 13, big run off area on the left here if you get it wrong but it's not too difficult. Of course the chicane is next and I get right over to the right in 3rd, drop down to first, flick left, avoiding the kerb on the left, slight acceleration then flick right.. I tend to run a little over the left hand kerb on exit and am a little cautious on the throttle until I am off of it and then it's a case of full throttle through the final turn 16. I have spun through here a few times but most of the time it's not a problem.

One thing here though is that I find there is a lot of stuttering on the exit of the last turn when running with the AI (Monaco suffers a similar problem through the swimming pool complex for me). It's much better online but even so a league race I ran here earlier this year ended with a lot of disconnections and most of them occurred as cars were going through this corner. So be warned disconnections are a definite possibillity here.

Anyway, that's my take on this track for what it's worth. Hoping to get some more practice in tonight or tomorrow as the weekend is going to be difficult to find time as I have some family over Saturday through Sunday :s

Cheers
