How can a mod be any good when someone hasn't even driven a real car in his life, not to mention a race car, nor he has good technical data? Yes, some mods can be good and fun, but for me it is missing something. It just isn't the same as properly made original content. You don't have to agree with me, but my experience with mods is not overly positive. I'll take anything Kunos throws at me...
I think there is element of truth in what you are saying but your comment reads as if you are saying there is no possibility that a mod could be excellent unless the car implementer has driven the given car , you also say "missing something" without clarifying what you mean so its hard to have a conversation unless you said what that something was. Without the clarification it just seems as if you are making an argument from authority rather than evaluating what a given car is like to drive.
To try and expand on what I think you were saying , 90% of user content is S***T
(Maybe less so within sim games) I mean look at most the mods for any game 90% if not more is trash , not to disparage people messing around its just the nature of tinkering but compared to pro content its a fact that most is utter rubbish.
HOWEVER and a big however , due to steam and communities its very easy for people to plough through the S***T and filter the best content so even though the majority of mod work will be pore its also very likely we will see fantastic mods that are on a par and sometimes better than what the pro's produce.
I also don't think its fair to say someone has to have driven the car to make a good mod of it , clearly that can help and you might end up with something more authentic but you can and we have mod cars even developer cars where I doubt anyone on the team has driven it but we ended up with a spectacular sim-car.
I think we have to remember that driving simulators as much as they have progressed are still very abstract from the real activity of driving , as it is just having the overall car physics be semi realistic is still often missing from many sims so regardless of how well the car is implemented its nothing like the real thing when it comes to certain ways of driving. So in that scenario regardless of what a car modder does its going to be limited by the underlying engine , the usability of the engine and other factors.
I think the spirit of what you were saying though is right in that its far more likely that if a moder/developer can both drive well and has driven X car they will more likely develop something that handles closer to the real thing.
If the tools for AC are good , If the engine is as impressive as the TD and videos make it look to be , then I think its likely that even a average implementation of a car might be better than what we find in other simulators.
Again too much tea I'm banning my self from RD when I drink tea ..
