It seems obvious that the Mercedes F-Duct actually alters the aerodynamic characteristics of the car.
And that is legal if it´s a passive system, which it is. It´s only illegal if the driver is involved.

Uhm, I'm not quite sure where I stand in this yet. But, even though the slot is passive. It is getting activated by the driver. If the driver doesn't press the button. It's not activated.

But if the driver doesn't press the button for DRS that doesn't activate either, i don't see how activating DRS and activating a secondary system by pressing the DRS button is illegal, if they make activating the secondary Merc DRS illegal, then surely pressing the normal DRS button is illegal aswell.

Mercedes also have another system on their car that's not got anything to do with DRS, they were talking about it on SKY after Q3.

But it´s just a vent, how do you activate a vent in the bodywork? :)

Driver activates the DRS but not a vent sitting behind the DRS :)

But, by activating DRS. It also enables the vent. And the vent is changing the aero.

I have no problems with getting your point, I'm just not sure, which argument I'm going to stick to :)

Any device, activated by the driver, that alters the aero is not allowed. DRS is an exeption from that rule. So, by doing the allowed thing, activating the DRS, you also activate a "hidden" vent, that alters the aero further.
As far as I know, it all comes down to how you then choose to define the rule. Is that vent, just the wing that's made that way. Or is it actually an aero device, that get's activated when the driver activated the DRS.

But wasn't the DRS-activated F-Duct already deemed legal by the FIA'

If so, I don't really get why there's even room for complaints. It's legal, so shut up and develop your car properly. I'm a bit sick of ping-pong ruling.

thats the loophole,Ole....also called "clever interpretation of the rules",FIA have checked it and have deemed it legal, the only reason Renault is complaining is because they dont know how exactly it works and therefore cant put one on their car

The only moveable aerodynamic device is the DRS. It just so happens that there's a vent behind the rear wing flap. The vent is not moving. It's just sat there behind the wing.
Genius and perfectly legal design.

My team is always Ferrari. But my driver was always Schumacher. Looks like he's gonna have some fun this season. Hoping for his first podium since his comeback tomorrow. My prediction:

Schumacher
Button
Hamilton

Optimistic I know :p Great to see someone other than RB on top finally, there are 3 cars quicker than them, I like this very much :D But it seems Ferrari have gone the wrong way, but it has highlighted the massive difference between the 2 drivers. Massa had to use soft tyres to get through Q3. I hope they turn it around

Hopefully Kamui can make up some positions through the first couple of laps.

Hoping for a Top 10 finish from him!

My tip is that he will, got good pace and if the car is as good on tyres as last year hes within a shout.

On a side note, Ive noticed that in the media theres a lot of hype for two drivers in the lead up to the season: Hamilton and Di Resta. I think Button is the one to watch, everything seems to suit him and come race day his ability to conserve tyres could be decisive. Also, I believe Hulkenburg will be faster than Di Resta, the Hulk is a very very quick driver.

Surely Bernie cannot kick this off the calender, love the atmosphere for the first race of the season, it belongs at Albert Park!

Also being Australian, don't need to wake up in the middle of the night to watch the race! :p
