“Nobody Wants Your Opinion”

I see some doesn't dig what the text is about, you ought to know that it is not an "anti-opinion" propagation. Also it is indeed serious problem. Kids under 10, mentally, shouldn't be taking part in this. Spend your money on Forza, sorry serious simulation devs, they do more harm than good.

Too many bright people doesn't waste their time on sharing opinions. It is not something to be happy about. When someone who is smarter than you does this, you know that it is a bad sign.

Maybe they can't stand to be wrong sometimes ? Or maybe they are afraid to be wrong for once and expose the ignorance ? Maybe they still look for rock solid proof rather than just sharing an idea ? Probably some of them.

Maybe their time is too valuable ? Maybe there aren't enough minds that would appreciate their effort in trying to explain what they think about, maybe even what they truly know ? Probably most of them.

In a subject which is as complex as replicating reality, which means understanding it very well in the first place, it is really scary and dangerous that basic ethics and basic communication principles is still a major issue. Perhaps that is just a price to pay for simracing getting more popular, community can't maintain the quality while growing in quantity.

In the past year (excluding my requested ban, because of frustration and wasted time) I was learning and trying to learn a lot of things, tried to engage into many discussions, donated a lot of my time, also with a hope of learning myself. It is always difficult to come with strong opinion and don't sound like a teacher, which for some reason is stereotyped like it is not a student too... I know sometimes I might be wrong more than I suspect that I could be, but I better stay on doubtful opposing side, than give an easy confirmation to the other doubtful side. Thats how you discuss... but many just seek for confirmation. I was banned from Kunos forum, only because I was opposing the stream of one way opinions. I am disrespected by various people for opposing them, even though I respect them. There probably is not a single person which I haven't, or wouldn't oppose on at least one subject... Instead you want to be lied to. Oh what a bad romance :D We will build a soap opera on this.

The further it goes, it just doesn't pay off the time and energy. Perhaps only my fingers gets buffed... because it is just an "usual rant".

And this meme gets more and more relative, no one will miss the pointless rant, and it will be ok.

The internet is my number 1 go to destination for when I want to lose some more faith in humanity...that said, I think RD is a really nice place overall. Some conversations come off the rails, but by and large I think interactions here are very reasonable. And trolling, relative to other online communities I've been around, is almost no existent in my experience (but maybe I've just been hanging out in the wrong threads!)

I have to wonder if the heavy focus here on clubs/leagues may be a factor in keeping the level of decorum up. It seems like maybe the idea you might find yourself on Team speak with some of these people someday would be a deterrent to acting like a complete butthole.

Great article.

I regularly put people on my ignore list temporarily when they are ‘claiming’ certain threads (e.g. Formula 1 threads are constantly overflooded by ‘Max hate’ and ‘Max love’ discussions) or rFactor 2 threads by complaining DLC’s are too expensive... over and over again, in each thread about the subject. That way I don’t get annoyed that much and are ‘triggered’ to response, and make it possibly even worse. It can make following these threads a but difficult sometimes though...
If people are just being trolls and bashing to make others angry something then I think that's fine however sometimes people add others to their ignore list just because they hear comments, arguments, etc. that they don't want to hear even though what they may not want to hear may, in the end, actually be the truth. Then, all that person is doing by ignoring another person who has good/constructive intentions is blocking themselves out from learning and growth because they choose to hide from possible truths which they don't want to confront as being possibly true.

I honestly quite enjoy the confrontation, i have never been offended and i have often been made to look foolish by pointed out hypocrisy. My question is why is it so important that we dont argue? I don't care if someone calls me a dick, ass, whatever how does it really impact on the life i live (with 6 supeemodels with bottle openers for buttholes) when i argue with this community like i regurly do, i dont hate them even if i call them stupid, i love them, i want to have a beer with them and stroke there head as i talk about the code required for the new UI. Were all different and trolls are people too.

I don't see the need for the article, we humans as individuals have been disagreeing with each other since we learnt the art of communication, in fact, we've gone to war based on words, nations have divided due to the power of speech and people have taken their lives due to another persons spoken beliefs.

I don't see a problem to be honest, as has been stated many many times over the years, we all have an opinion and a right to express it, it's how you express it, or reply, that can make the difference. Words are a very powerful tool, we should learn to use them wisely and without malice or sarcasm, because words, like weapons, are capable of destruction on many levels.

Personally, I like to read the text in front of me, ponder it for a minute, decide if I agree or not, then depending on how it made me feel, post a reply or comment. But sometimes it's best to say nothing due to not having anything positive to say.

Just my opinion.

Constructive and polite opinions in RD? That will never happen when people are treating video games as if you cannot criticise it.

The best course of action is still never post any different opinion because you will be harassed and bullied for your opinion that is different from the rest.

An article like this won’t solve this issue when tribalism rules in the minds of these people. Not to mention the insane amount of bias that some people has towards certain individuals or company.

I've always liked the climate at RD, People can be dicks up to a point and then they have a holiday.

You need a mix of people and behaviours, Including the close minded uninformed impolite critical posts (and I hope to god I have made my fair share of those). So much of what makes a poor post is simply down to the opinions already held by the person reading it.

Its all entertainment, which means its engaging, which means people will read and participate and the boards stay healthy.

Nice writing, but I would add something which is very important. Do not want to censor others who has different opinion than you. Censorship is a bad thing (except in very serious cases, like for example real pornography in a childrens book, illustrations are okay if educational), which I will always oppose. Also some of us are a bit rough when coming to express ourselves, so be a bit patient because most of us don't want to be jerks in the first place.

Btw only stupidity can trigger me, no insults has the power on me :)

Just say what you're going to say, so long as you're not being abusive with vulgarities or threatening.

Your opinion is just about all you have left in this world that is actually yours, and I'll be damned if I'm going to walk on eggshells because you don't agree with me.

Edit: I also add that I don't mind if I'm wrong and someone with more knowledge comes forward to let me know, because it means I've learned something.

Somewhat uncomfortable to have to endure reminders about our shortcomings but in the end it's to our benefit. Swallow your pride, read it, think about it, and you'll be a better man or woman for it.

And remember the golden rule: Treat others as you would like to be treated. Your life will be much better for it.

Unmoderated areas (which you describe) are terrible places to be.Look at the Youtube comments.Threads get derailed & hijacked & other people do not want to contribute.

You can argue but it has to be in a constructive way.Saying someones argument is "stupid" because X is fine but calling someone else "stupid" or a "dick" probably says you are losing the argument so you are resorting to emotion & insults.
