GTR Revival: New Logo & First Screenshot Unveiled

GTR Revival Logo.jpg
Having gotten the developer core of the GTR series back together, Straigth4 Studios is working on a new sim that should follow in the - certainly enormous - footsteps of both previous titles in the series. Now, the very first in-engine screenshot is available, courtesy of Studio Head Ian Bell, in addition to a logo for the project.

GTR and GTR2 have set new standards for endurance racing simulations in the mid-2000s, and GTR Revival wants to expand on this legacy: AI-based commentary and race engineers, varied content and a partnership with Reiza Studios seem like promising cornerstones for most of the team that had also worked on the original titles.

Not too much about GTR Revival was shown thus far, apart from detailed info on Straight4's personnel and their plans. Bell had promised to show in-engine footage soon on Twitter this week, and he delivered just a day later.

GTR Revival Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II Cockpit.jpg

In it, the cockpit of an Audi R8 LMS GT3 (presumably the Evo II version, as it is the most recent one) is visible, entering the S do Senna at Interlagos - likely a nod to Reiza's involvement with Straight4. The screenshot shows off detailed visuals and interesting lighting with what looks like rain clouds rolling in over the Brazilian circuit.

GTR Revival is not another title in the line of GT3 simulators, though, as the Straight4 team has expressed its desire to create different content from throughout the years of racing history as well, and it could also mean the return of the car and track rosters of the previous GTR titles.

New Tire Model Coming

Bell also confirmed the development of a new tire model for the title: The Seta model, which is rooted in the Madness engine Bell and his former team at Slightly Mad Studios created, will receive a successor called Seta 2 for GTR Revival. Seta had recently been the focus of Reiza's in Automobilista 2, as the Brazilians had discovered that remnants of the old ISI-based engine interfered with Seta to cause undesirable handling, resulting in the big improvements of the recent v1.5 update.

GTR Revival does not have a fixed release date yet, but Straight4 is aiming for a launch in late 2024.

What makes me laugh is that if it turns out to be good the nay sayers and Bell haters will just buy the sim anyway but just keep shut about their purchase, or keep shut about their past criticism, or just keep hating to spite their faces.
We will all buy Ian Bell's game. And then return it back after trying it out. That's the raison d'etre of return policy. If someone has overpromised and underdelivered, he doesn't deserve a customer's money. We, customers, decide, what is good and what is not. The fact that someone has made the game, does not make said game a masterpiece automatically. And don't forget, Ian Bell keeps the track record for the sheer amount of false promises.

Game that is ready for release ≠ good game that is pleasure to play.

The interesteing info I gleaned from all of this (ignoring the usual shite) is that the SETA tyre model developed by SMS conflicted with remnants of the old ISI physics coding and with (alleged) help from s397, REIZA discovered it and are starting to fix the issue.

more than confusing:
1. Audi seems to be the EVO model not the EVO II

2. „GTR Revival“ ? We expect GT1 like 550, 575, MC12, Murcialago, Saleen or older stuff

3. could be content rival
GTR Revival vs. AMS2

4. AMS2 won t release latest GT3 because of that.

I can only speak for the period when I was around at S397. What is true is that Reiza and S397 have always been on good terms (personally I worked for both) but there was never any help from S397 on any part of AMS2.

And you were there in the period I am talking about, and I were told this.
So, while I have no reason to doubt the one I talked with, I certainly have no reason to doubt you.
Retracting-time!

I wouldn't have mentioned it if I didn't find it credible and trustworthy. I am sorry.

Yeah folks, just to confirm.
@Ole Marius Myrvold

What Marcel points out is accurate! :)

There was no coop on the Madness Physics development between S397 and Reiza Studios. (Or of any capacity in development of AMS2)

You can see that as confirmation first hand.
Cheers!

Unless they bring content that's never been "done", like 2005-2011 GT1 cars
2005-11 GT1 is present in Raceroom, though they are pretty outdated physics-wise, being one of the last classes waiting for the physics overhaul.

Very respectful of you Ole :)

There's no other thing to do :) While I find that it should be a normal thing for everyone, I "pride" myself in not being a person who just states things because it sounds true. I like to think that the few times I make solid statements, that they actually are true. I will obviously not burn the one who told me this, but I will ask him in private, as I don't like it.

It's not that I have much of a voice, and I'm happy for that. I got nervous when people on RD said they would wait to buy DiRT 4 and DiRT Rally 2.0 (when those were released) until I had played them and come to a conclusion. While flattering, it just makes me nervous :ninja:

Regardless, I would like people to at least think "well, this isn't BS" when they see my name. After all, I use my full name, and have done for 20 years in simracing now. It goes directly on me as a person. Then of course comes the staff-badge. While all staff have their own opinion, and don't talk any kind of "company line". I still feel like it adds another layer of importance when I do claim things. They need to be correct.

Also. I don't like being wrong. Haha!

Where your whole theory falls off, is with the fact that S397 never coded an engine; that heavylifting was done by ISI. S397 just bought the abandoned package, produced an UI, content, and little advancement in physics until...last year? Or was it this one? When cars did not have to be setup anymore like a wingless trike to be fast?

And I'm not even bothering to expand on them being under MSG umbrella, and how that impacts their boundaries of work.

So yeah, not buying your theory at all.

No need to buy it anymore. I was wrong, and have stroked out my previous posts and added link to Marcel's post. Stroked out as in doing this, not as in deleting the post. Something about owning your mistakes and stuff.

Project Cars 2 with AMS2 handling would even today be brilliant. I'm keeping an open mind as always and if it handles like AMS2 it then depends on how complete the season will be. If it is as complete as GTR2 with AMS2 handling, I'm in. I miss a good season style game like F1. I''m not swayed by marketing, I'll wait until it releases and make a call. Make it slick, great handling and optimised for great frame rates and I'll buy it. If it doesn't work great out of the box, I won't buy because I don't think Ian has supported issues on previous games with updates well enough for my money.

So Ian Bell sells SMS to EA, EA then hold the rights to SETA and Madness engine.
Before he sold it they licenced out madness and seta to Reiza.

Bell confirms the new tyre model will be called SETA2 and a new engine.... let me guess Madness2.

He can't call it GTR as still owned by simbin, so he calls it GTRevival.... see what he did there.

Meanwhile Reiza 'polish' SETA and madness engine in AMS2....
Then they go and help Ian with this new project using effectively the old stuff he sold to EA but with a 2 on it.....

Sound fishy at all to anyone else?
I hope EA can be bothered to trawl all over this with their lawyers.

Why? Why the hell do you even care?

Wolftree is right, why do you care really?
And anyway, what's fishy about using upgraded and updated version of a software and revving it up, maybe after making more updates of your own?
Reiza made a lot of improvements and corrections in it that is worth using for S4 instead of starting from scratch with the PC2 version, it would be irresponsible to do otherwise before eventually modifying it as GTR-R will need.
