Brazil is always a highlight for drivers and fans alike with its incredible history, both classic and modern. With how 2024 is shaping up, it looks like we could be in for another fantastic race weekend.

Can Lando realistically beat Max Verstappen?

To nobody's surprise, it was Max Verstappen and Lando Norris’s Forza Motorsport open-lobby-style clash in Mexico which has been the talk of the town in Sao Paulo. This follows an incident-packed trip to Austin, Texas the week before.

Whilst the duo might be friends off the track, there is no correlation when they get behind the wheel. How far will Verstappen push his luck and what will become of his title fight if he continues to break the rules? Could Norris turn the season around?

To become champion in 2024, Norris needs to reduce an intimidating 47-point gap to leader Verstappen. However, whilst this is a big ask of the Papaya driver in four events, the Dutchman has not been immune to reliability and consistency problems this year, so Norris is still well and truly in the fight.

Whatsmore, in the final practice session on Friday, Norris lead a British 1-2-3 with Mercedes' Geroge Russell and Kevin Magnussen's replacement this weekend, Oliver Bearman, filling in the final slot. Norris is looking fired up and ready for a fight. There is no doubt Verstappen is faster than the 15th he managed in FP3, he never put the soft on his RB20 so we will have to wait until Sprint Qualifying gets underway to see his true potential.

Kick-Sauber restructure in preparation for Audi takeover in 2026

Ex-Ferrari Head of Race Strategy and Sporting Relations, Inaki Rueda, will join the Kick-Sauber team in 2025 as part of the team’s ongoing restructuring in preparation for the team to morph into Audi’s Formula 1 team when the new rules come into play for the 2026 season.

image_2024-10-31_145406700.png

Rueda has been unemployed in the world of Formula One since leaving Ferrari at the end of last season. Rueda will join the Swiss team as a replacement for current strategist, Beat Zehnder, who will be promoted to the new position of Director of Signature Programs and Operations.

Current Haas driver, Nico Hulkenberg, was officially announced back in April as the first driver to be announced for Sauber and then into Audi's Formula One effort in 2026. The speculation has been rising continuously over who will partner with the German, current drivers Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu are not favourites for the seat. Bottas has admitted he ‘can’t do more’ with his Kick Sauber and therefore cannot show why he deserves a seat in 2025.

Current Formula 2 championship points leader, Gabriel Bortoleto, is making waves in the paddock with this second Audi seat up for grabs. Talking to the media in Brazil, three-time world champion Max Verstappen had this to say about the future driver lineup at Sauber.

“If I was Sauber I would’ve signed him already (Gabriel Bortoleto), especially because young drivers are the future and it will be hard for him to adjust in 2026."

“It’s always good to get used to a team already for a year, make your mistakes here and there, get integrated well, understand the car a bit. You always feel much more prepared and comfortable when you then start in ’26.” - Max Verstappen

Kevin Magnussen to miss Brazilian sprint race.

Danish Haas driver, Kevin Magnussen, is due to miss out on all of Friday's free practice running as well as Saturday's sprint race at the Brazilian Grand Prix this weekend. Haas' young reserve driver Oliver Bearman will take the wheel of Magnussen's VF-24 for those two days.

Early on Friday morning, Haas announced Magnussen had become physically unwell and would not be able to compete in the Friday and Saturday sessions. There is hope that the Dane will be able to compete in Sunday's big race, but time will tell.

"Kevin Magnussen will not participate in Friday’s track running at the São Paulo Grand Prix after suffering from sickness. Our official reserve driver Oliver Bearman will take over driving duties. The team wishes Kevin a quick recovery and will provide a further update in due course." - Team Haas

Table.png

Points system:

There will be 10 points awarded for guessing the right position and the correct name and 5 points for guessing the right name, but the wrong position. The table above is purely to illustrate how it works (Mexico has been used as an example) At the end of the season we will award the overall winner one year of Premium membership here on OverTake worth €12.99!

RB stayed out longer. But I think Max would have caught Russel and Norris anyway. He was so much faster every lap in the rain.
At last part of the race they joked about doing another pitstop, he was that far ahead.
Pulling such a gap in these tricky conditions made him shine even more.

His tires were looking pretty good at the end of the race.
I think he could have pushed even a bit more on it, when needed.

But it was all just luck, according to some...
The only reason Norris was at pole was because of his own luck in Q2.
If Verstappen would have finished Q2, he would be at the front row.
Even Checo would have been sitting somewhere near the front.
Guess who would comes first out of T1.

Still if Norris was told he would be battling with Verstappen a year ago he would have signed for it.
They came a long way at McLaren, fully deserve the WC for teams.
If they can keep their act together the next 3

1. Aborted start fiasco.
Ok, a bit of a dumb and dumber moment by Norris, and a mistake for sure, but no advantage was gained, and nobody's safety was put at risk. Also there is significant precedence of two or more formation laps in wet weather conditions. In essence a bit of balls up but ultimately no harm done.

Also to penalise Norris would mean to penalise the half of the grid which followed him therefore leading the race director to make the pragmatic decison for an additional formation lap, hence the minimal fine.
No wonder I have put you on ignore list, I was logged out and read your comment.
What if another Bianchi situation happens? Even this same weekend, Albon crashed in turn T1, possibly because of some failure. Colapinto crashed under SC. Any of those situations could've happened while Stroll is doing whatever the F he was doing there. Norris being dumbass is not an excuse.
Race control & stewards were a joke during this whole weekend with inconsistency.

Some drivers stayed on their position (hey Max), as they seen the lights and those where telling them don't drive.
It's in the rulebook, that same one that said if you can get ahead of the apex, the corner is yours and the other car should back off.

The lights are red, but you decide to drive.
But now the whole field had to drive another lap.
Making the race one lap shorter.
That's quite a major breach of the rules.
5000 and pointy finger is a very mild ruling.

Oh and by the way, guess what, the best race in years, and no DRS in sight... or at least it didnt change anything as in, no easy fly bys.
Yes, good point about no DRS. It is a safety thing of course in wet conditions but it really is not needed anyway in a wet race.
Not so sure it was a great 'race' but certainly a magnificent display of an alien driver at work.
Regarding Lando, I really like the guy and I hope that with some 'battle scars' hopefully he can become as good a racer as Leclerc, Alonso and Russell. He will need to improve his craft a little bit and not depend on team direction so much because we have some exciting young drivers capable of race wins in the right cars. F1 is so close nowadays that good drivers are now able to show how good they are and not just in the background as was the case in the 8 years of Mercedes dominance.

Rain is the great equalizer, so i think we witnessed yesterday that Lando isn’t that special. I also like Lando but i don’t see a future champion in him, this season he has a chance and it must be done when not it won’t come ever I’m afraid.

That would mean that Ocon is the best driver on the grid.

Lando will have to hit back next race! Then we know how strong he is mentally. But from your list marcg88, only Alonso has really competed for championships. But for sure Leclerc and Russel are very good drivers!

With a special note Oscar Piastri

Agreed Lando must hit back and I would like to see it of course but it isn't really a case of hitting back, it's a case of maximising each race and see what happens. All Max has to do, if he can contain himself, is think Championship. He is a very clever driver so 'thinking Championship' for him is not taking his time, it's avoiding potential gotchas.

I used to really like Johnny Herbert. The man used to be a great talent and had a terrible accident at Brands Hatch. Why does he need this? If not this year? There will automatically be another British driver who will become a world champion.
Oh that's right I forget Johnny.

It was Eddie, Johnny, David, Damon and Martin at that Monaco rant where they vilified Michael with no recourse and after he retired.

Absolutely disgraceful.

Rubens crying in his arms as Michael hugged him saying sorry after gifting him that Indy win for taking one earlier in the year where they swapped places..... under the laws of the FIA.

Then he goes and tells another story, bashing Michael. Traitor !
That is why Michael appeared to run him into the wall that race on his return, it still hurt him !
They screamed to ban him but he knew exactly the room left, he is no fool.

Please explain to me how decades ago what MS did was abhorrent but when Oscar does it it's fine ?
WTF !
I not talking about the time or the rules I am talking about life long passionate fans ideology and common decency.

====================

Michael never won any of his 7 titles from team mates helping him , you can take anything they did out of the equations and he still won by a country mile !

Same as Max sure Checo helped him a few times but it never amounted to a WC .

Lando though sure might if he wins by 1 point hey ?

you are absolutely right! But young Johnny was a nice guy and so was Damon Hill for that matter. They become sour and desperate 😅

But the fact that these people are allowed to hand out penalties in the next race and the next... makes it almost scary. Nothing to laugh
Sh...t FIA!!!!

And the fact that no one seriously asks questions here (after the race) in a sport that involves so much money makes it seem how crazy the world is today. When Bernie still managed this circus I would have liked to see it

I can't argue with you on that point, and I'm sure yours is not the only iggy list that I'm on. I'd have probably put myself on my iggy list if it was indeed possible.

So, my advice would be to stay logged in, as I will not be held responsible for anything relatively mild that I may say that could possibly cause you to convulse with horror.

I still think today Damon would kick himself more then Michael for making that move at Adelaide and not having a good think about it first. Not like he never had the time. That was the mistake :x3:

You're not a racer if you don't go for the gap, I am Senna fan but this is pure mental games on his part playing with other drivers, he had them, believe if you put it beside me you are fair game.
Nigel was his real nemesis because he was not afraid of anything :coffee:

I like them both until that day at Monaco when I lost all respect for the five of them.

That to me is the biggest thing, you don't go telling tales out of school.

Something I love about Max, he called that qualifying fiasco " bad luck " and he did it with a smile and a nod.

He never dwells on things like those 5 did for how many years till they had the perfect platform to rant and rave like maniacs frothing at the mouth is the best description I can think of. . ( facepalm )

Nigel.. one of the most underrated drivers ever. How I loved Lion Mansell!! ❤️

Even Hamilton can't match Nigel Mansell at all (but that's my personal opinion)

Don't worry Kojak! Even though we don't always agree, you are one of the few who say really funny things here on the forum. Which often makes me laugh a lot.

Dont worry mate!

Guys like Nigel and James, oh and Max, that kind of demeanor.

Priceless

To me Max is the only one out of all 20 does not think he is a showboat, they all prancing around in designer gear wanting every micro expression they make to be caught on film for prosperity.

Max could not give a flying frig about these things.

Lewis, Nico Seb they were all "ravers" lol

Too true. In an era of clean shaven wissy wossies his mustache defined him as the absolute apex predator of motorsports - even Ayton decided it was better to be his friend rather than his enemy.

It's therefore no surprise that the design of modern racing wheels has taken significant influence from the shape of his hairy accoutrement.

Hey, it's chill. The best people that I know are the ones that I can disagree with and who don't get offended by it.

I most certainly would not want to have a beer with somebody who didn't disagree with me on some points.

Maybe a beer one day perhaps, Muzikant? 😉
