After arguably one of the best weekends of the 2024 season so far, Formula One heads south to Mexico City for the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix.

Sainz hails ‘almost perfect’ performance in qualifying​

Following Ferrari’s fanatic one-two finish last time out in Austin, Sainz added: “It seems like, especially on my side, there has been a step up. Also in qualifying, we are trying to find something extra with the out-lap and tyre preparation, and it seems like we’re going in the right direction."

Ferrari head into Sunday’s race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez holding third in the constructors’ standings, eight points behind Red Bull and another 40 behind McLaren.

In the constructors title battle, Ferrari are holding third place, just eight points behind the struggling Red Bull. Outfront are still Mclaren with both sides of the garage putting in impressive results week in and week out. with only a handful of weekends lef tin the championship, it is anyone's game for the team's championship.

Hamilton's patience wearing thin with Mercedes's qualifying performances​

Throughout the qualifying sessions, Hamilton was running updated parts to his W15 and had a strong showing in the practice sessions. However, once the qualifying session started all of the pace and balance appeared to have fallen off a cliff.

Hamilton had this to say about how he has attempted to fix the issues this weekend. “The car felt good in FP3, [before] qualifying I didn’t change anything, then in qualifying it completely turns on its head,” Hamilton said. “It’s definitely a frustrating qualifying session but that’s every qualifying session I’ve had this year.”

Piastri makes a shock Q1 exit​

The McLaren squad have been the frontrunners for the second half of the 2024 season with both their drivers winning races. However, Oscar Piastri was booted out of Qualifying after just the first session, despite the Aussie topping FP3 and leading his his teammate. McLaren was the hot favourite to claim the illustrious pole position.

Everything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong to amount to a disastrous Q1 session. Piastri came out on mediums and made the very late decision to switch to a set of soft tyres. Piastri lost that lap time to track limits, and unfortunately for the Aussi, he couldn’t extract enough from a second flying run on worn tyres to progress through to the

On a different issue... it will be very interesting to see how Lewis goes in the Ferrari.
There's an after race test at Abu Dhabi where we often get drivers moving teams testing their "new" cars.
Will we see Lewis take part in the Ferrari?
I doubt it. I believe he's under contract with Mercedes until the end of the year.
 
redbull today toke 25 seconds penalty more than all other f1 teams that amazing by mad max and sergio marko
 
2nd move yes.. but on the first move max did nothing wrong... it was Land that passed off track... IMO the FIA was wrong on this...

Lando calls him dangerous when he himself approaching a non passing corner started to slow before the apex, you all see that right ? then putting Max in 2 minds causing him to lock up and push wide ( shrugs ) or maybe it was the left kerb caused it, whichever once he locked that rear left he was not turning from then on. Anyone in that situation with full tanks is natural you turn away from the corner.

Lando planned that and dirty way to give back a position.
In that speed corner slowing before it is dangerous.

Yeah outrageous Martin like you never locked a wheel and ran wide either.

Oh and Crofty, if the roles were reversed in that incident he would have said the same thing.

"Was he trying to give the place back ? " IE: where Lando slowed, so obviously Crofty noticed it if no one else did.

Anyway if that was Max I bet he would have added another sentence.
"However, was that necessarily the best place and way to attempt to hand back a place ? "
In fact I think he almost was going to say that then bit his tongue. lol

I was surprised by Martin... he is usually fair but today he looked at it with coloured glasses. But lets face Sky F1 are and will always will twist things to suit the British drivers. Don't get me Wrong I like Lando but I fear that if doesn't win it this year we wont get another chance...Piastri appears to be getting stronger and stronger within that team... not sure Land will be able to keep him back next year. The other thing we learned in the Last two races is that Ferrari has a real chance at the constructors... and if they comes into play McLaren may not have luxury to favour one driver over another for the WDC... its going to get interesting for the last races that's for sure. But one thing is clear Redbull is out for this year(they have been a 1 car team for while now), and Max is just waiting to see how the numbers to tally up.
 
Oh and did I hear Lando say " I'll drive him into the wall in a minute" or something like that ? lol

That is no message for young drivers.

As long as you know I not coming from an emotional place.

imho though they are borderline attempting to influence decisions with comments like "outrageous and dangerous " along with basically demanding a penalty.

World class people should know better, just go watch IndyCar or Nascar and listen to their reservations. They think before they open their mouths.

He should have done the real world champion move and just trail Norris for 4th.
But 2x 5 seconds penalty would be more consistent with previous punishments for the same breach of the racing rules.
For sending someone deliberate in to the barriers and in to the hospital at full speed you would also only got a 10 second penalty, in a not so distant past. These were just some low speed wheel scrubbings.

There seems to be an element of intimidation which goes beyond firm and fair.
I just want to see good, close racing.
Domination by one team or driver is bad for the sport and the team sponsors.
How much TV coverage of Sainz did we get yesterday?

BTW not a member of the "Norris fanboy club" - only watching Sky at the moment as my other option is Channel 4 - which has coverage at times that don't work for me.
That and my wife watching "Strictly Come Dancing" :(

Certainly felt that way.

But in general that overtaking on the outside into a disappearing corner needs to stop. Max did well defending that. Second one earned a well deserved penalty though.

To be honest I don't get F1's rules. And that whole being ahead by centimetres is BS in my opinion, no way to tell in the car. Make them get a car length, then you are ahead and it's your corner.

Lando desperately needs to learn how to race, champions always go hard on their direct opponents for a reason, Michael, Lewis, Max, Ayrton, the list goes on...

Penalties have to be applied for actions, not consequences.
 
Like I said before, I'm not really into penalties. but if you give punishments you shouldn't put Johnny Herbert and Teddy Mayer's son there. it stinks and tends towards corruption! And 5 seconds seems to me to be enough, which is what Norris also got in Austin.

It all started with Senna in the late 80's, then Schumacher turned intimidation into an art and now, it's common place. Just turn into your opponent when he tries to pass. I watched a video on the 1977 season last evening. You didn't see these moves back then, because death was a possibility. Now, they feel invulnerable.

I would have black flagged Verstappen yesterday. Put the little brat in his place. Won't happen.

Well what about the layouts today for it makes possible. make gravel! Today's circuits make the drivers do this. No comparison with the 70's or Schumacher's time.

And as for Verstappen (black flag) where do you get this from? Norris was quite influenced by the British press and now they gave him a gift, while Noprris only got 5 seconds for the same in Austin. Easy points for him how more the britisch bias cry
