After arguably one of the best weekends of the 2024 season so far, Formula One heads south to Mexico City for the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix.

Sainz hails ‘almost perfect’ performance in qualifying

Following Ferrari’s fanatic one-two finish last time out in Austin, Sainz added: “It seems like, especially on my side, there has been a step up. Also in qualifying, we are trying to find something extra with the out-lap and tyre preparation, and it seems like we’re going in the right direction."

Ferrari head into Sunday’s race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez holding third in the constructors’ standings, eight points behind Red Bull and another 40 behind McLaren.

In the constructors title battle, Ferrari are holding third place, just eight points behind the struggling Red Bull. Outfront are still Mclaren with both sides of the garage putting in impressive results week in and week out. with only a handful of weekends lef tin the championship, it is anyone's game for the team's championship.

Hamilton's patience wearing thin with Mercedes's qualifying performances

Throughout the qualifying sessions, Hamilton was running updated parts to his W15 and had a strong showing in the practice sessions. However, once the qualifying session started all of the pace and balance appeared to have fallen off a cliff.

Hamilton had this to say about how he has attempted to fix the issues this weekend. “The car felt good in FP3, [before] qualifying I didn’t change anything, then in qualifying it completely turns on its head,” Hamilton said. “It’s definitely a frustrating qualifying session but that’s every qualifying session I’ve had this year.”

Piastri makes a shock Q1 exit

The McLaren squad have been the frontrunners for the second half of the 2024 season with both their drivers winning races. However, Oscar Piastri was booted out of Qualifying after just the first session, despite the Aussie topping FP3 and leading his his teammate. McLaren was the hot favourite to claim the illustrious pole position.

Everything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong to amount to a disastrous Q1 session. Piastri came out on mediums and made the very late decision to switch to a set of soft tyres. Piastri lost that lap time to track limits, and unfortunately for the Aussi, he couldn’t extract enough from a second flying run on worn tyres to progress through to the

Hopefully MV will learn he can't get anyway with being overly aggressive.
Strange when he reckons Lewis pushed him off at Silverstone... sorry to bring that up.
He does seem to have a give way or crash attitude sometimes

Far too late for this article, no point in voting at the end of the race is it!
And, no, I wasn't visiting here just before the race to see if the article is here or not, you'll have to try to keep up Connor!

Max needs to take a look at what going on in his head. Liam Lawson does just fine when the pressure is off but he's hasn't put up a reason to move to the Red Bull team here, Checo put himself in that position but Lawson could have at least thought about what was happening to the Red Bull points situation, then he got into that mess with Collapinto.
As for track excursions... I saw a ton of them between the Ferrari's and Mercedes's (?) at the chicaine, looks like the Stewards just forgot about that after Max went Wild.
Good Race overall and Well done you Haas boys.
DoD Carlos... smoooooth!
and a nod to Kmag.
Catch of the day Leclerc

PS: my smilie isn't working, 6 times I've tried to put a hands covering face for Leclerc bur it never shows :(

If Max does not do these antics, Norris wins and he finishes P4: 13 points lost. With the race result, he lost 10.

Max is not only incredibly smart, but also plays a beautiful trick in making everybody believe that he's not.

So great race, especially the first laps were awesome!! max struggling with the red bull (still performing better than expected with the current red bull), which leads him to be over aggressive reminding me of 2021, i think the penalties were right today

Ah of course great, great job carlos, well deserved, outperformed charles the entire weekend! Do you guys think lando still has a chance for the title? I mean i'm still dreaming to see another abu dhabi 2021 between max and lando.

Hamilton's antics at Silverstone were sergeon like, the precision was a bullseye... and seriously out of order.
Today Max acted like he was a Lion fending off a wild dog from stealing his meat... then the pack ran off with it:mad:

After last race and today I really start to hate these Tilkedrome parking lots with lines drawn on them for racing. If it was a classic track with a grass, gravel or wall 20cm after the line, nobody would dare crossing it, and think twice about divebombs to apex, and there would not be a need for penalties and twitter fan wars.

When I say "give way or crash", have a look at his starts.
When he's starting second he ALWAYS dives up the inside leaving braking past the point he can stay fully on the track - COTA was a great example.

On a different issue... it will be very interesting to see how Lewis goes in the Ferrari.
There's an after race test at Abu Dhabi where we often get drivers moving teams testing their "new" cars.
Will we see Lewis take part in the Ferrari?

I was surprised to hear mentioned that Norris had two track limits warnings applied despite these being caused by Verstappen, and for which he got penalties.
I would have expected the penalty to cancel out the track limits infringements as they have acknowledged that Norris was forced into taking that action.

I think those are applied like "automatically", independent of other penalties. You still have to delete the laptime, as it's invalid, so you also get a warning for track limits with that.

he deserved the first one... 2nd one you could debate...but if your competitor crashes into you and destroys your car an engine and that counts against your #of balloted engines why should this be any different? He was off track and gained time in relation to all other drivers. That is more than fair.

There were circumstances outside of my control that led to this one being up a lot later than I planned. The next race will be up in plenty of time.
