Automobilista 2 v1.6 is still in the works, but should release this summer. Developer Reiza Studios now showed some of the content to come.

The summer of 2024 could shape up to be a memorable one for Automobilista 2: The sim by Brazilian developer Reiza Studios is due for its big v1.6 update, which focus on another big step ahead in the tire model. As outlined in the first part of the corresponding dev update, there is more to come, however, such as more IMSA content and shader updates to make AMS2 look better.

For the latter, Reiza has now shown previews, all but confirming at least three new pieces of content to be included in the update. For one, the Corvette Z06 GT3.R seen in this article's header image looks set to make its debut in AMS2 once version 1.6 launches. The car has only recently hit the virtual track in iRacing as well. Meanwhile, the blue-and-yellow kerbs in the screenshot hint at one of the upcoming tracks.

Automobilista 2 v1.6: Road Atlanta, New Prototypes

Only four IMSA circuits from the 2024 calendar are missing in Automobilista 2, those being Detroit, Mosport, Sebring - and Road Atlanta, which is most likely what the Corvette screenshot shows, especially considering that another image clearly shows the Petit Le Mans venue's turn 7. Of course, this is not a surprise, as the track was already featured in screenshots accompanying the v1.6 part 1 dev update.

However, keen-eyed observers will notice that the cars in the shot are not in AMS2 yet, either. Unlike in WEC, where the class has been relegated to Le Mans only status, LMP2 machines still compete in most IMSA Sportscar Championship rounds. The Oreca 07 shown is used by the majority of the LMP2 grid, with just a single Ligier JS P217 on the grid in 2024.

Further shots show the improved shaders in wet or drying conditions. Reiza underscored that despite the improved look, the changes will have a "negligible impact on performance so all users can enjoy the improvements."

Collaboration With Multiplayer Platforms

Meanwhile, the multiplayer section of AMS2 looks set to start improving significantly. Reiza announced collaborations with multiplayer platforms Low Fuel Motorsport, JustRace and Racecraft Online to help the sim run well on their services.

Reiza wants to ensure that the platforms can run AMS2 as well as possible, while on the other hand, the collaboration "will also assist us with valuable data and feedback to further develop the Multiplayer component in AMS2."

Following part 1 released about a month ago, part 2 of the v1.6 dev update should not be far off anymore. It is set to cover AI improvements, as well as "some Multiplayer wins already in the bag", according to Reiza Founder and Lead Developer Renato Simioni.

I've been running ams2 since the beta days I've been on the whole journey. I've backed this game hard. It's visuals have always been amazing the vr absolutely awesome. I got to a point i had to question myself if I've become an ams2 fanboy haha. TBH Looking very much forward to the imsa, cars, tracks, new tire model etc. But I'm a little disappointed that reiza couldn't or can't work out how to run a multiplier system within the game. (like raceroom, acc, iracing etc. The tech has been around for at least a decade but we get it divided up between third party servers. I want to participate in an official ams2 comp not a third party thing.

Or we wait and see how ACE turns out...
kunos, with AC (i prefer it over AMS2, even I dont like AC), and ACC, my favorite and best experience game, is 100% trusted dev on my list. I can give 1000 us dollars now for it.

Yeah, it's a pity. I don't race offline at all so a broken netcode is really just the end of that sim for me.
It's far from broken. JustRace has been running league races for years. There have been issues, but I've been in some fantastic online races on JR and RCO. The main issue has been stability with bigger grids ( 24+). It looks like that is being addressed. There seems to be a myth that AMS2 can't do, or doesn't have MP. Its no iRacing, but it has functional MP.

I get that a lot of people love online racing so understand the criticism and frustration. I personally only race offline so I don't really see the failings in this department because I never tried it. I hope they get this sorted soon for my online brothers!

AMS2 runs on my potato PC on high settings which is nothing short of a miracle and looks great, the potential is there for AMS2 to get a massive online following because it runs so well and plays so well without having to mess about with settings too much. But selfishly, I am happy with the physics being tweaked and improved and new cars and tracks to fill out the categories as a priority as that suits my preference just fine.

It saddens me that the online element turns people off playing it though, I just want it to get as much support as possible so they can keep sharpening it and adding content.

I want it not in summer. I want it now.
:D
And of course the dick comparisons like in kindergarten are not to be missed.
Sim "A" is better than Sim "B". But my Sim has the best physics, my Sim is blah, blah, blah.
As if your own salvation and beatification depend on defending a video game to the point of self-sacrifice.
Pitstop 2 for the c-64 is the best Sim of all time. Basta.
Who hasn't heard of it?
You could play it with two people on one computer.
Any counterarguments?
No?
Good.

AMS2 is a never ending construction site. All these announcements killed the expectations of a complete "sim".

It was released years ago an still they "revolutionize" the physics, as "they now finally found something new in the engine".

For me, this makes me feel like playing a broken game while waiting on the announced and always postponed updates.

I regret buying this game. Reiza is like a monetarized Project Cars 2 Modding community.
Sure. I’d like to welcome you to sim racing. You must be new. All sims work this way. How old is AC? How old is iRacing? RF2? Let’s see how long it takes LMU to improve.

Ah for the good old days when there wasn't this kind of rubbish where the positive voices actively put people off of titles with their false claims... Wait did they ever exist? Maybe when the Playstation was new... :roflmao:

There used to be a problem with iRacing's sunken cost mentality in sim racing where people get defensive simply because of the money they've spent... Then SMS upped the ante by creating investors of their product who were keen to see their investments pay off...

Nowdays that mentality has spread through to every sim as a reaction to that faked positivity from those 2 developers... As positivity about one title leads to negativity about all other titles the cycle got baked into the experience...

As people get defensive about the amount of time they've spent in something that might turn out to be "just another title" among many that didn't hit the mark... Much like the iRacers who had to explain away their spending more on their game than the other options, people will feel pressure to explain the time they've spent sim racing instead of spending that time with their families or friends who just aren't into sim racing... And of course the discourse on youtube amplifies the whole thing...

With the ever increasing development periods there's also a "journey" for people to reflect on, some enjoy every step even the backwards ones... I've got to the stage in my life where I have to enjoy the on track journey more than the blog posts showcasing possible future journeys...

For me the defensive tribalism really holds back development as the developers struggle sifting through the discourse that happens on any sim racing titles forum... Just giving feedback is a labourious task, especially if you are hopeful of a fix that could help in the short term... And most forums end up making the comment sections of places like here look like light hearted discussions as a result...
