Automobilista 2: Upcoming Content Previewed, Collaboration With Multiplayer Platforms

Automobilista 2 v1.6 is still in the works, but should release this summer. Developer Reiza Studios now showed some of the content to come.

The summer of 2024 could shape up to be a memorable one for Automobilista 2: The sim by Brazilian developer Reiza Studios is due for its big v1.6 update, which focus on another big step ahead in the tire model. As outlined in the first part of the corresponding dev update, there is more to come, however, such as more IMSA content and shader updates to make AMS2 look better.

For the latter, Reiza has now shown previews, all but confirming at least three new pieces of content to be included in the update. For one, the Corvette Z06 GT3.R seen in this article's header image looks set to make its debut in AMS2 once version 1.6 launches. The car has only recently hit the virtual track in iRacing as well. Meanwhile, the blue-and-yellow kerbs in the screenshot hint at one of the upcoming tracks.

Automobilista 2 v1.6: Road Atlanta, New Prototypes

Only four IMSA circuits from the 2024 calendar are missing in Automobilista 2, those being Detroit, Mosport, Sebring - and Road Atlanta, which is most likely what the Corvette screenshot shows, especially considering that another image clearly shows the Petit Le Mans venue's turn 7. Of course, this is not a surprise, as the track was already featured in screenshots accompanying the v1.6 part 1 dev update.

However, keen-eyed observers will notice that the cars in the shot are not in AMS2 yet, either. Unlike in WEC, where the class has been relegated to Le Mans only status, LMP2 machines still compete in most IMSA Sportscar Championship rounds. The Oreca 07 shown is used by the majority of the LMP2 grid, with just a single Ligier JS P217 on the grid in 2024.

Further shots show the improved shaders in wet or drying conditions. Reiza underscored that despite the improved look, the changes will have a "negligible impact on performance so all users can enjoy the improvements."

Collaboration With Multiplayer Platforms

Meanwhile, the multiplayer section of AMS2 looks set to start improving significantly. Reiza announced collaborations with multiplayer platforms Low Fuel Motorsport, JustRace and Racecraft Online to help the sim run well on their services.

Reiza wants to ensure that the platforms can run AMS2 as well as possible, while on the other hand, the collaboration "will also assist us with valuable data and feedback to further develop the Multiplayer component in AMS2."

Following part 1 released about a month ago, part 2 of the v1.6 dev update should not be far off anymore. It is set to cover AI improvements, as well as "some Multiplayer wins already in the bag", according to Reiza Founder and Lead Developer Renato Simioni.

The AI needs to be reverted back to pre Le Mans track release (1.5.5?) when they had the big AI update. It's become really bad. I played AMS2 exclusively for years, haven't touched it for months now and play ACC and enjoying it quite a lot. If only it had hypercar multiclass (I understand it won't and why).

The AI is super slow in corners now, can't handle chicanes, forms clusters way more often and the go slow side by side so you can't pass them, fishtail down a straight for 5 seconds instead of crashing, on and on.

You mean one of the things this patch aims to fix with the new tire model that is already in 1.5.6 to test out on 2 cars?...

Also, how many GT3 cars have you raced in in real life?
I imagine that you are a professional pilot in real life too
It seems obvious to me that we all rely on the sensations that we more or less receive from a game and that personally make us have fun, some with one, some with the other without necessarily having to discredit the one we like less.

So, by your standards, AC are broken hence the mods are needed to fix it...

Got it :laugh::laugh::laugh:

Hows the rain situation in AC these days?
I prefer having fun. It never rains in my races.
Maybe I just said it wrong. I prefer AC as it is finished. And the modders make the game better for free and without announcing and keep you waiting for something that is not as good as promoted by Renato.

Thats cute coming from someone that loves AC....:laugh::laugh:

Remove the mods and what do you have compared to AMS2?
Remove the mods in AMS2... ;-) and race against Reiza cars and fantasy names... will be great fun...

Reiza said, they wanted to keep mods outside to keep a high standard... hahaha... AMS2 would not be the same without the modders who paint the cars and fill the gaps where Reiza has no licences...

Remove the mods in AMS2 and...you still have 200+ track layouts, 80 odd vehicles and an up to date sim that looks amazing. do the same in AC...and you have a very dated game. So not sure what your point was there.
The mods make very little difference to AMS2, they are a nice to have but are not essential to making it a modern title. Which is completely not the case with AC.

Thank you for that post. Now we all know that you are just a troll...

Due to my 8 years in the army and 4 tours, i have been in a few planes and a single jet, so yeah, i would know a little how it feels to fly a plane but not as a real life professional pilot But I also never stated that....

BUT i never stated something feel more real than something else.. That is on you to make that claim
Also funny just how fast you went into defence when calling you out. Guess you never even sat in a GT3 car...

I'm really excited by their next update and the teased content. If no-one noticed yet, the multiplayer Twitter post has a pic of multiple Lamborghini SC63s too (hat tip to @racinglegend1234 ).

Developing a nice contemporary set of GTs and prototypes and it will really add some nice depth to the classes if we get another couple of each.

Bundle them with a patch with some good AI improvements and I'll be a very happy customer. Looking forward to some content management tools and to see how the new UI looks too, can't wait for Part 2 of this update.

AMS2 is a never ending construction site. All these announcements killed the expectations of a complete "sim".

It was released years ago an still they "revolutionize" the physics, as "they now finally found something new in the engine".

For me, this makes me feel like playing a broken game while waiting on the announced and always postponed updates.

I regret buying this game. Reiza is like a monetarized Project Cars 2 Modding community.
I have really got into AMS2, having tried most other sims & see it as the most enjoyable out there. I also consider it great that the developers see fit to keep improving it which can only be good for all of us. If a game is fun & the developers want to improve it still further, it can only be counter productive to slag them off. I say “well done Reiza, keep it up“.

In my opinion better a sim where devs try to improve it even more instead to have an "finished" game.

Ive tried now Iracing for 3 months and its a big disappoinment (for me).
Desyncs, tons of rammers, no possibility to play with an friend due to the rankingsystem (correct me if i missed something).
This points are no go for me to pay every month for it.
Before you say something...
i7-13700k, DDR5 64GB, RTX4090, VR HP Reverb G2 v2.... inet glas fibre Down 530 Mbps/ 110 Up Mbps

LMS is lame attm.
ACC is in some terms good but VR is not so optimal, boring content.

Thats why i prefer AMS2.
As for me best looking sim with best VR performance/FFB.
Sure, public servers are also a playground for rammers but i drive only for fun.
When i want to go more serious so i use Racecraft.
Multiplayer area in AMS2 was always a shame point but it looks like they want to get their hands on it finally.

I have sorted the VR on ACC and it's as good, if not better than AMS2 VR.

Let me know if you'd like help with it.

I tried to assist on the AC forums but Stefano banned me because I asked (very politely) if they had plans to fix VR..... I guess they had no plans and didn't want to answer.

This is all true.

AMS2 started so ambitiously and a lot of it is extremely well done with great variety but the multiplayer is pretty awful. Lots of disconnects and no workable license.

This is what killed it for me. Can't take it seriously until MP is solid and there are people racing online.

Now with AC Evo on the horizon, I reckon it'll die an untimely death.

They've really got to get that MP working... Too many connections and syncing issues (green lights, track grip, weather and brake lights), disconnections and weird stuff (Flying cars, submarines, cars that are invisible but can bit hit) just happen all too regularly...

Doesn't matter what one thinks of the physics if the competition keeps having to retire in modern machinery like it's a 60s historic race... Fix the issues and get more people coming back though and they'd get a tonne of physics related feedback to help improve the title...

They should license rF2/LMU physics-engine and integrate them in the game.

If only they did what Rennsport are doing with the Madness... Replace all that half finished work from SMS with a polished physics engine that they've already shown they work well on with AMS1... They've basically had to do something to every part of the physics anyway...

Can't wait for the Vette!

Unless there is a ready to go api, which I highly doubt , that wouldn’t be practical or time efficient. They really seem to be getting to grips with the madness engine now it would be lunacy to stop here and integrate something else.

Yeah, it's a pity. I don't race offline at all so a broken netcode is really just the end of that sim for me.
