With Automobilista 2 v1.6. seemingly around the corner, sim racers can look forward to new cars as well. Here's everything developer Reiza Studios has confirmed.

The big update to v1.6 for Automobilista 2 may not be here yet, but Reiza Studio's recent activity suggests that the wait is almost over. First, the studio showed a multiplayer session hosted on Low Fuel Motorsports, including 32 cars on the grid, to show some of the online and general improvements to the sim - and then, the Brazilian studio confirmed new content to look forward to.

For now, this exclusively means cars, although there will be new tracks as well. Alongside update 1.6, four new cars will be released for free as well as upgrades to two pre-existing ones, and nine more will join the grid as part of two paid DLC packs. Most notably, Lamborghini is going to make its debut in AMS2 with four cars being added - for now. At least four more are set to be added later, according to Reiza Founder and Lead Developer Renato Simioni.

Undoubtedly, the stars of the 1.6 new car list, at least for most sim racers, will be the Lamborghini SC63 and Alpine A424 hypercars. The prototypes are joined by two LMP2 models, which come in two specs, too - both the Oreca and Ligier will come in their current IMSA versions producing 525hp, as well as their more powerful 600+ hp iterations used until the end of the 2020 season. The Ligier JS P320 LMP3 car will also join the grid.

The additions make for a sizeable IMSA grid already, with the Acura ARX-06 in GTP, the Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo, Lexus RC F GT3, Ferrari 296 GT3 and Ford Mustang GT3 in GTD missing as of November 2024.

Outside of the IMSA cosmos, more interesting additions await, such as the previously-announced Audi Quattro V8 that finally adds a third car to the Group A class for free. Similarly, the GT4 class will be expanded without expense for players by the Audi R8 LMS GT4, and the GT Classics class will feature a roof-less variant of the Corvette C3.R once AMS2 v1.6 drops.

Meanwhile, new tracks are also set to join the fray, although only two have been confirmed so far. Both Sebring and Road Atlanta, staples on the IMSA calendar, are on their way. More info in this regard is expected soon, as well as regarding other elements of v1.6.

The most recent bigger dev update was shared in September, in which Reiza highlighted improvements to the AI, rain lines, graphics and general physics. This followed a long radio silence since May in 2024 - now, sim racers hope that work on AMS2 v1.6 is on the home stretch.

Meanwhile, the NAMeS: Real Drivers for AMS2 mod by @John B. Ellis is already good to go for whenever v1.6 is deployed. The mod adds real driver names and behavior to all cars in the sim, using drivers that actually drive or have driven the respective cars, to make for more realistic grids.

Can someone of the beta users tell me if Reiza maybe...possibly..finally extended the custom championship slots to more than 5 (4 at same time) PLEASE  It´s like my personal nuisance since the release.
They offer so much content it´s a shame i use only 5 different car classes...

I've been dabbling with 1.6 for a month or two, and to me it feels natural and engaging. The biggest thing for me is that now I really don't notice the 'physics' and just get dragged straight into the immersion of driving and stay there.

AMS2 is just a very fun title. It's not perfect, none are. But it makes getting straight into good, engaging racing easy and painless, without jumping through a lot of hoops to try to make things work.

I have a feeling alot of people will struggle with the new update at the start. As the would have been used to jumping and driving straight away.....All i can say is cold tyres is real !!

What people really need to keep in mind. We are in a very luxurious situation with 5, 6 or even more sims/games being on a similar level. Some people like this, some people like that. Some people like both, some people like none. No one forces anyone to stick with this or that, enjoy what you enjoy! People have different taste, different priorities, different opinions. Respect that and don't blame other people for liking something else than you do! Don't judge anybody for liking one game better then another, especially not on a disrespectful level like it happens here more and more often.

So.. at least in the latest beta version nothing is changed... still 4 slots. Not sure about the release, but I don't think you should be too hopeful, at least for now

For me there are two parts of v1.6 that are not discussed a lot but will make quite a bit of difference in the long run.
FIrst it the new UI: it has been made easier on the eyes and better organized/streamlined. Nobody talks about it but when you start using it for a while you realize that it feels more natural and less heavy to see and to use
Second is the fact that with the new physics will come adjusted baseline setups that IMO are making cars generally more competent out of the box for a wider range of tracks (surely open setup will be faster). Some extreme ones still may need a bit of tweaking (e.g. Sebring with big bumps may require still some adjustment from baseline to drive the cars comfortably).
If the user makes sensible choices of track/period combos (for instance avoiding Monza on January 1st) there is less need to fiddle with the setup to adjust for car drivability issues. I must say the Setup Team at Reiza has done a good job IMO and that makes for a very readily usable simulator.

Ok i just don´t, no i can´t really understand that. Ok its not the priority for the Devs, but can be priority for some of us, mostly single players.

I can predict - no matter how good 1.6 will be, i still will spend more hours with AC or RRE fe. Why? Because i have over 60 championships created within AC (can play 45 at once with vanilla launcher!), have created at least 9 championships with RRE. But 4 ??? Common Reiza.... All thes pre-created championship are well-intentioned, but i like to have my things set upped like i want.

I think by now most of us who actually like AMS2 and visit these forums can predict who the trolls are that post on every single AMS2 post. And the sad thing is, they don't stop there, they hunt down every you tube video and post the same comments there. It's baffling. Great that some of them are taking a break.
Best thing to do is to block them, as I do.

Will check later, but I fear you may be dissapointed.

Have you inputted this on the features request thread? Doesn't guarantee it will happen, but it's easier for devs to read that, and it's available to everybody registered at Reiza Forums :)

Yes i am registered there and i brought it up once or twice. I'm not someone who obsessively writes the same thing every week in forums.
It´s not necessary. At least i think i am not the only person on this planet which would like to see more default slots. Especially it´s not a rocket science (in my eyes) to add that.

I personally cannot see myself tackling so many championships at once, but that's a me thing. In paper I agree, does not sound that hard. But who knows, the Madness Engine sometimes takes its name too seriously! :p

whats the point of addons for a game that has 2005 level driving physics? its no where near realism level of AC, iracing and rfactor 2. make it drive proper before adding cars. AC already has over 10,000 free mods that drive better than AMS2
The update will change the physics to great effect (i've heard). So no more slidey, slidey. If they combine this with cars having actual weight you can't just through around then I might take this out the garbage bin for another try.

Do the cars finally have weight to them? Like if there is too much brake momentum you can loose the rear?
