With Automobilista 2 v1.6. seemingly around the corner, sim racers can look forward to new cars as well. Here's everything developer Reiza Studios has confirmed.

The big update to v1.6 for Automobilista 2 may not be here yet, but Reiza Studio's recent activity suggests that the wait is almost over. First, the studio showed a multiplayer session hosted on Low Fuel Motorsports, including 32 cars on the grid, to show some of the online and general improvements to the sim - and then, the Brazilian studio confirmed new content to look forward to.

For now, this exclusively means cars, although there will be new tracks as well. Alongside update 1.6, four new cars will be released for free as well as upgrades to two pre-existing ones, and nine more will join the grid as part of two paid DLC packs. Most notably, Lamborghini is going to make its debut in AMS2 with four cars being added - for now. At least four more are set to be added later, according to Reiza Founder and Lead Developer Renato Simioni.

Undoubtedly, the stars of the 1.6 new car list, at least for most sim racers, will be the Lamborghini SC63 and Alpine A424 hypercars. The prototypes are joined by two LMP2 models, which come in two specs, too - both the Oreca and Ligier will come in their current IMSA versions producing 525hp, as well as their more powerful 600+ hp iterations used until the end of the 2020 season. The Ligier JS P320 LMP3 car will also join the grid.

The additions make for a sizeable IMSA grid already, with the Acura ARX-06 in GTP, the Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo, Lexus RC F GT3, Ferrari 296 GT3 and Ford Mustang GT3 in GTD missing as of November 2024.

Outside of the IMSA cosmos, more interesting additions await, such as the previously-announced Audi Quattro V8 that finally adds a third car to the Group A class for free. Similarly, the GT4 class will be expanded without expense for players by the Audi R8 LMS GT4, and the GT Classics class will feature a roof-less variant of the Corvette C3.R once AMS2 v1.6 drops.

Meanwhile, new tracks are also set to join the fray, although only two have been confirmed so far. Both Sebring and Road Atlanta, staples on the IMSA calendar, are on their way. More info in this regard is expected soon, as well as regarding other elements of v1.6.

The most recent bigger dev update was shared in September, in which Reiza highlighted improvements to the AI, rain lines, graphics and general physics. This followed a long radio silence since May in 2024 - now, sim racers hope that work on AMS2 v1.6 is on the home stretch.

Meanwhile, the NAMeS: Real Drivers for AMS2 mod by @John B. Ellis is already good to go for whenever v1.6 is deployed. The mod adds real driver names and behavior to all cars in the sim, using drivers that actually drive or have driven the respective cars, to make for more realistic grids.

I only stay on this site because there are a small number of very helpful, creative people who make it a pleasure; but so many threads are so predictable, tedious and downright boring. I've (parsimoniously, I'll confess-I like sales) invested in many driving games (call them sims. if it justifies you) and enjoyed most of them. I don't call myself Driving Menace for nothing and my standards aren't very high (don't you worry, I wouldn't dare go online). They all have their strengths and weaknesses, but AMS2 receives a level of abuse that is inexplicable devoid of there being some psychopathology involved. I'm glad there's a further attempt at improving the game and I will have the opportunity to try out the many cars that are already in it with the new update, not to mention the new, free material. If I like it, I can wait for a sale for the new paid DLC. What's wrong with that?

My problem with AI in AMS2 is the fact that they have an invisible nitrous button that makes them faster than me on the straight no matter how good of a corner exit I have.

...they robots, AMS2, AC, ACC has no dynamic AI you are just racing robots, nothing more, it's the truth, plain and simple, sorry if that gets up anyone's dress. ( shrugs )

Like usual though people will just hit that buy button and then find it still drives like crap but they will be happy about it anyway. ( shrugs)

This misconception that they can totally change driving behaviour per engine at will is a pipe dream.

They feel like they feel they always have always will.

I think AMS2 drives and races really well. If people don't like it, they can grab a pineapple umbrella.

Adding it to LFM will really add a new dimension and bring new people in.

Plus, some of the content in AMS2 is fantastic as it's so different.

They're all robots. Some, open to interminable argument, might be better algorithms than others, but even rF2 doesn't get to transcend that reality (it's one of the better algorithms, I'll concede).

For myself, I recently reinstalled the first Project Cars and it's my favorite AI of the moment. I might be a minority of one, but what do I care.

There is that dress complete with offensive suggestion all because some peep does not like what you like.

I am 100% with him, if you are asking for better handling and behaviour which many are then why wouldn't you wait to see if they have delivered ?

Offensive comment? Pineapple Umbrella?

Well sorry the AI is either dynamic or it's not.
If you ever really I mean really studied ISIMotor2.5 AI you would know difference is huge. ( shrugs )

rF2 /LMU car goes wide slides it's pace is reduced while getting back to speed, it will look like it's tyres are dirty and could take a sector to get back to speed ;)
Reiza and Kuno's don't do that ?
You don't gain from their mistakes anywhere near as much as you should because you race against opponents are near perfect.

ISIMotor2.5 has dynamic interaction and collision with objects, these other engines can't even comprehend it.

Please forgive me. How could I possibly comprehend rF2's superior form of artificial intelligence, when I lack your superior form of human intelligence? That's stupidity for you.

I can see where this dlc is gonna go. Everyone was probably expecting Endurance pack 2 & possibly 3 to include the cars and tracks but now seems that it's going to come in 4 separate packs. The 2 car packs here then a sebring and road Atlanta pack. Just an expensive way of doing it for the consumer. Just makes it look like a massive cash cow.

Hopefully I'm wrong and they're included in some way. Not particularly interested in sebring as it's included in a lot of sims already but road Atlanta isn't and is a simple but great track.
Mosport will be included too

I'm really looking forward the update, those cars are a nice addition, but what I'm really interested is the tire physics update.

On another topic, is there any plan from Overtake to moderate a little bit more? I know that the usual clowns bring some engagement here because it generates more replies, but this is getting really annoying.

Looks like release candidate under beta on steam will come first so we can all get a tryout to suspend all arguments on what peoples opinions are :) - Looking forward to all updates, have LMU/ACC/RR/AMS2/RF2 and this has its place and will be stronger after 1.6 onwards.

Cant quite fathom why threads get bloated with 'my sim is better than your sim', at the end of the day, if its not your bag enjoy the sims you love. If the other sims are that great surely time spent learning better laps in them would be more constructive than bashing other sims your not interested in.

Having most to compare (not all) all have strenghts and weaknesses, not one is perfect.

AMS2 driving physics are serviceable but I just can't enjoy it until they finally implement a head motion simulation that's on par with RHM. And I hope that's soon because AMS2 car and track content keeps getting better and better.
