After the wild ride that was the Dutch Grand Prix, the Formula One circus arrives at its next destination. The Temple of Speed - Monza.

Monza has been a staple of the World Championship's calendar since Formula One's official inception in 1950. However, the circuit officially opened its doors in 1922 and had held many years of Grand Prix racing before the idea of Formula One had been formed.

Monza has been the host of the Italian Grand Prix every single year excluding one. The 1980 Italian Grand Prix was held at Imola, the only year that Monza has been absent from the Formula One calendar. Monza was recently refurbished and upgraded with leaps forward in spectator and driver saftey. A new pitlane was also added - as were flattened kerbs that might change the approach to corners like Variante Ascari despite the layout staying the same.

Rubens Barrichello's unbelievable qualifying lap for the 2004 Italian Grand Prix

Monza's track layout, for cars that is, has not changed since the year 2000. The Temple of Speed replaced the dangerous double chicane known as Variante Rettifilo with the tight right-left combination of Prima Variante. This difficult first corner sequence has been the demise of many a sim racers Monza experience.

More recently, the track has been resurfaced and widened in certain spots. While the layout remains unchanged, the flattened kerbs, particularly in Variante Ascari, could change how drivers tackle the track, potentially increasing speeds.

Colapinto To Replace Logan Sargeant At Williams

Following a very disappointing Dutch Grand Prix weekend, Williams pulled the trigger on a semmingly inevitable mid-season driver swap. Logan Sargeant has departed the team with immediate effect and will be replaced with Williams Academy driver, Franco Colapinto.

The Williams team will most likely treat this weekend as a long series of testing sessions for Colapinto, whereas Alex Albon will be aiming for a points finish at the very minimum to make up for the fiasco of Zandvoort.

What does Sargeant do next? There is no space for him in Formula One next year so he could back to his home country and race IndyCar, or depart from racing for some time like his predecessor Nicholas Latifi - or maybe a door opens in WEC like it did for Mick Schumacher after his exit from Haas at the end of 2022.

The First Crash Of The Weekend... On Thursday

An unexpected turn of events saw the first accident occur before a competitive wheel hit the tarmac. The safety car, driven by the experienced safety car pilot Bernd Mayländer, had a high speed crash the Parabolica, dislodging the barriers and delaying the on-track action before it had even begun.

The Aston Martin Safety car was in a bad way after the accident and was recovered via flatbed truck, covered by the black privacy sheet. Whilst a bit embarrassing, the most important thing is that nobody was hurt during the accident.

What's funny, is that some people here can not share their view without insulting others...
If you think that having your opinion challenged is being insulted, then you should stay away from internet forums. Freedom of Speech runs both ways, always.

For the rest of your post, you are again repeating the same numbers without looking at the big picture, so I'm not going to bother.

It's crazy how Mclaren are wasting away a chance at a WDC title.. same goes for Lando he needed to be more aggressive and leave it up to Oscar to either back out or crash..and if there was a crash leave up to team deal with it after the race. With the fastest car on the grid and 1,2 a after first corner the end up losing the race... reminds of the Ferrari of recent past.

Your comment starts with 'maybe' and indeed, there are a lot of 'maybe's' in F1, for fans, for official commentators, for drivers and team leaders as well. I am not a fan of Norris (or anyone in particular) but you don't get many chances to beat Max. McLaren should grab it. That's just my view, nothing more. And that of the official F1 commentators. No need to be rude.

For the record:
- McLaren not asking Lando to let Oscar by in Hungary: COLD FACT - 7 point difference.
- McLaren telling Oscar not to attack Lando in the first lap at Monza, and keeeping Charles at bay: VERY PLAUSIBLE that Lando could have won - That's 10 point more.
As regards to the way McLaren are running things at the moment, it's going through a 'culture change under Zac Brown, when Ron Dennis ran the team it was His team, and everything went through him, when the financial arrangement changed and Martin Whitmarsh was bought in to run the team he 'reorganised' in such a way that evetything was fighting itself and no decisions were made without the 'board' as it were being in complete agreement, Ron wanted to get it back straight and the Board chucked him out... up steps Zac, "I'm a racer" Brown,
I think it was Ron that brought Zac into the team,
However, the team is getting back to the race team that won at the top under the stewardship of RD, and good luck to them for that, as when Whitmarsh was there it was just floating with no direction, and Zac's rules of "race but don't crash into each other" is the right way to go, if you make a concerted effort of all the eggs in one basket (Norris in this case) you are likely to fall, because how will it make a guy (Piastry) knowing that he'll never be allowed to finish in front of the chosen one, not even a win unless misfortune takes hold, Nah, Piastry want's wins and is hungry, he's WDC of the future, as I believe Norris is, but as some here have already figured, Lando needs to be a little more selfish... and a little more brave/ruthless, remember Multi 21 ? "come on Seb don't be silly, give the place back to Mark" "NO"
None of this "Fernando is faster than you" rubbish, and, Rubens Slow and let Michael by... you should remember your family!

This year it's almost certain that Max will win his fourth WDC, but whether Red Bull can claw their way to a constructors win is interesting, I'm also interested in how many more races are going Mclaren's way, as Mercedes keep them on their toes and Ferrari's Fred Vasseur is stirring the pot too.

It has to be said that Piastri's race pace must have been a huge wakeup call that I guess few saw coming; you rarely ever see him having a clear (no matter if not big) upper hand on long runs over Norris, but yesterday he did. He's bridging the gaps towards Norris while keeping an edge on racecraft and level-headness. Remains to be seen if this was a flash in the pan or a turning point, Monza is quite an unique track. He has climbed up to 4th in the standings though, and he's a big contributor of McLaren closing within striking distance in the constructors standings.

In many ways, I think the next 3 races will define the shape of the championship. Baku and Singapore are up next, and are prone to bring chaos and a shake up in the standings that may go in any direction. Then a 4-week break up to Austin, which may be RBR's greatest chance to reverse their fortunes. If by that point they don't, chances are the constructors championship will be lost, and drivers's will depend on the impact of the street races on Max's gap towards the rest of the drivers and who's leading the charge afterwards.
