After the wild ride that was the Dutch Grand Prix, the Formula One circus arrives at its next destination. The Temple of Speed - Monza.

Monza has been a staple of the World Championship's calendar since Formula One's official inception in 1950. However, the circuit officially opened its doors in 1922 and had held many years of Grand Prix racing before the idea of Formula One had been formed.

Monza has been the host of the Italian Grand Prix every single year excluding one. The 1980 Italian Grand Prix was held at Imola, the only year that Monza has been absent from the Formula One calendar. Monza was recently refurbished and upgraded with leaps forward in spectator and driver saftey. A new pitlane was also added - as were flattened kerbs that might change the approach to corners like Variante Ascari despite the layout staying the same.

Rubens Barrichello's unbelievable qualifying lap for the 2004 Italian Grand Prix

Monza's track layout, for cars that is, has not changed since the year 2000. The Temple of Speed replaced the dangerous double chicane known as Variante Rettifilo with the tight right-left combination of Prima Variante. This difficult first corner sequence has been the demise of many a sim racers Monza experience.

More recently, the track has been resurfaced and widened in certain spots. While the layout remains unchanged, the flattened kerbs, particularly in Variante Ascari, could change how drivers tackle the track, potentially increasing speeds.

Colapinto To Replace Logan Sargeant At Williams

Following a very disappointing Dutch Grand Prix weekend, Williams pulled the trigger on a semmingly inevitable mid-season driver swap. Logan Sargeant has departed the team with immediate effect and will be replaced with Williams Academy driver, Franco Colapinto.

The Williams team will most likely treat this weekend as a long series of testing sessions for Colapinto, whereas Alex Albon will be aiming for a points finish at the very minimum to make up for the fiasco of Zandvoort.

What does Sargeant do next? There is no space for him in Formula One next year so he could back to his home country and race IndyCar, or depart from racing for some time like his predecessor Nicholas Latifi - or maybe a door opens in WEC like it did for Mick Schumacher after his exit from Haas at the end of 2022.

The First Crash Of The Weekend... On Thursday

An unexpected turn of events saw the first accident occur before a competitive wheel hit the tarmac. The safety car, driven by the experienced safety car pilot Bernd Mayländer, had a high speed crash the Parabolica, dislodging the barriers and delaying the on-track action before it had even begun.

The Aston Martin Safety car was in a bad way after the accident and was recovered via flatbed truck, covered by the black privacy sheet. Whilst a bit embarrassing, the most important thing is that nobody was hurt during the accident.

Like I said McLaren will find ways to fall over themselves.
Lando unforced errors and sulking, again.

I was very surprised to see that McLaren allowed its drivers to race each other, with Norris clearly ahead in the standings and having a shot at a WC.

I think McLaren is starting to realize that the real future WC is Piastri, not Norris. Norris is not mentally strong enough. He was clearly rattled by Piastri's move and made three errors in the race, including one entering the pits. After the race, he looked crushed. Piastri, on the other hand, was totally unapologetic (and rightly so.) He was told he could race Norris, so he did and finished second. Piastri looks as if he has that ruthless side to him that top drivers all share.

Whether Oscar starts behind him or in front he is not happy.
For Lando it's all in the moment.
Oscar is already looking ahead to 2025 , dotting the i's and crossing the t's.

Yep feels like oscar doesn't want lando to win the WC, also mclaren doing their best to prevent it lol

Premium
At the moment it seems Oscar is the more ruthless but not 'quite' as fast, whilst Lando needs to be ruthless (I think he is capable). Will Oscar become as fast as Lando before Lando becomes as ruthless as Oscar? :)

Racing surface at most tracks is glass smooth, Asphalt/Tarmac in most run-off areas. Racing surfaces are generally wide.
Are we surprised there haven't been any Safety Cars?

I don't think it's the tracks, if you look at just Max's reign lots of red flags / safety cars.
More like drivers have woke up :p

Surprised not really, just made for a good joke and it's a little bit unusual.

But yeah safety car brings all sorts of things into play.
Most likely Lando could have won the last 2 races.

Most series will factor it in, even gamble on it.

Oscar is great but has no chance to be WC this year. Why McLaren don't give it their all to preserve Lando's chances is quite a mystery to me..
Hungary: 7 point lost.
Italy: without the aggressive move by Oscar in lap 1, they could have fended off Charles and have a 1-2 or 1-3 at least. 10 point wasted for the Championship... that's 17 points in total already.
It has to be said: Max gets zero help from Sergio...

Maybe because McLaren has not been convinced that Lando had an actual chance at winning the title as Max's downturn was believed to be temporary on one hand. While on the other, they know Oscar is their future and won't do themselves any favours by asking him to just move behind Norris without true reason.

Fans believing they are smarter than McLaren with some partial numbers disguised as cold facts must be F1's funnier story of the season.

What's funny, is that some people here can not share their view without insulting others...

Your comment starts with 'maybe' and indeed, there are a lot of 'maybe's' in F1, for fans, for official commentators, for drivers and team leaders as well. I am not a fan of Norris (or anyone in particular) but you don't get many chances to beat Max. McLaren should grab it. That's just my view, nothing more. And that of the official F1 commentators. No need to be rude.

For the record:
- McLaren not asking Lando to let Oscar by in Hungary: COLD FACT - 7 point difference.
- McLaren telling Oscar not to attack Lando in the first lap at Monza, and keeeping Charles at bay: VERY PLAUSIBLE that Lando could have won - That's 10 point more.
