Did you know Assetto Corsa have secured licencing rights to bring the Porsche brand over to the simulation? It's been kept pretty quiet you know...

Just in case you missed all the hype surrounding the three Porsche DLC "volumes" penned in for a release to the Kunos flagship simulator Assetto Corsa, the studio have thrown together a bunch of images on their Volume III DLC store page on Steam. Showing off some delightful highlights from the upcoming DLC pack due to release in a couple of days, the new big batch of shots are another welcome reminder of what is due to be one of the better stocked DLC packages coming to AC this year.

As mentioned above, the third Porsche instalment will land on Steam for PC gamers this Tuesday 20th December. Due to retail as a stand alone DLC for £5.99, players who wish to purchase all three packs can take advantage of the 'Season Pass' DLC that will secure all three instalments of the Porsche content for £12.93.

As a reminder for those of us who may not be familiar with what Volume III will contain, the full car list can be seen below. Please note the Macan is a free addition to the sim, and the 911 Turbo S replaces the 2017 911 GT3 RSR that has been delayed until January 2017, whereupon it will be released free of charge to owners of the Volume III DLC.

Porsche Volume 3 DLC Contains:
  • Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 2017
  • Porsche 911 GT3 RSR 2017 * Coming as a free update in January 2017
  • Porsche 911 GT3 R 2015
  • Porsche 919 Hybrid 2016
  • Porsche 908 LH
  • Porsche 917 K
  • Porsche 911 R
  • Porsche 911 Turbo S
  • Porsche Macan

To ease the wait until Tuesday, cast your eyes over these...

The car was made for the LM-GTE-class, but i highly doubt it will just be seen there like all other GTE-cars so far. Certainly with modifications, but like i said, the GT3-R is an old concept and needs to be replaced. Ask drivers like Sabine Schmitz. But she said as well: much more fun to drive:rolleyes:

Concept is old, but it´s the 2015 car we´re getting, I guess. And that only debuted late in 2015 and was more of a 2016 car. In VLN there was this BOP stuff going on this year, but other teams showed that the GT3 R was indeed competitive.

The GT3R so far this year has performed really well in all of the races it's made an appearance in. While this could be driver mod related since guys like Kevin Estre drove the GT3 R this year, it's still a note-worthy fact considering the amount of 1-2 Porsche finishes in the ADAC GT Masters 2016 season. Porsches were also in the top 3 for most GT World cup races.
Long story short, the GT3 R is very very far from not being competitive in the current GT3 grid.

With a hot track and on the long run the GT-R can´t win due to higher tyre wear. And i can´t find any reason why the much more efficient GT-RSR 2017 will not replace the GT-R soon, if the test runs will work well. GTE and GT3 is nearly the same today and Porsche wants to sell cars to private racing teams as well. It´s just the next logical step and when you heard Sabine Schmitz talking about the GT3-R compare to a BMW M6, the Porsche is technically obsolete and is just competitive with a generous BOP.

Can I ask what are the technical differences between the 2015 919 and the 2016 version

What would be the difference between the 2015 & 2016 Porsche 919 Hybrid? Only a livery and little less power right?

"This 2016 development includes a brand new front suspension and all-new KERS on the front axle, a revised rear suspension, improved efficiency from the engine, as well as new aerodynamics to accommodate the 2016 energy regulations. The 919 Hybrid continues to use the exhaust energy recovery system in combination with the front-mounted KERS. The amount of fuel used by the LMP1 teams has been reduced by 10MJ, an eight per cent reduction, and that has an effect on the lift over drag targets set by each of the LMP1 manufacturers."

"On the subject of suspension, Seidl says: ‘If you look at the suspension, obviously there is a lot of interaction with how we use the tyres. We did a brand new front suspension in terms of kinematics. The rear axle was an update. We changed it to have more freedom in how we can set up the car. You always have constraints with the pick up points."

"Changes to the pick up points at the front, as well as the uprights, mean that the suspension is easier to set up, improving the options for tyre choices as well as for the sensitivity of the car. One of the key areas of development was improving feedback to the driver, and the team is con dent of having achieved this. Driver Marc Lieb says that the changes are not that noticeable as the improvements have been introduced incrementally, although the overall lap time is vastly improved compared to 2015.

‘It still drives like a 919 Hybrid,’ says Lieb. ‘It didn’t change much although you can feel a little more performance in the car, a little more grip, less understeer in some areas, but it is the same behaviour, the same car. It is not a huge change of driving. It is small steps in different areas. We were just updating the ’15 car once in a while, and you adapt to the new car. It is an evolution. With small steps at each test you can’t
feel the steps, but when you see the lap times, there is a big change.’"

"Aero development is another key area for Porsche. The reduction of 10MJ from the fuel allowance has changed the emphasis for the lift/drag ratio slightly. ‘We had to work on the efficiency of the aero,’ continues Seidl.

‘The target is to interact as much as possible, especially with losing engine power on the straights. That is only one point of the whole thing. The second point is that we learned that the car was quite sensitive in certain states on the track, and very wind dependent. Balance was dependent on the steering angle, so we worked not only on the efficiency of the aero package but also the sensitivity to make it more driveable.’"

"As in 2015, the team has three aero packages for the season; a development of the high downforce package produced in the second half of the 2015 season and which was tested at the pre-season meeting at Paul Ricard at the end of March; the Le Mans low downforce package, and an all-new high downforce package for the races post Le Mans. The team has not yet made a decision on whether or not to run the low downforce package at the Spa 6 Hours in May.

"‘Apart from the monocoque, weight reduction was a big push for the engine, gearbox, hybrid system and suspension, because it gives you more freedom to play with the weight distribution. It can be moved accordingly, so that it can be track specific.’"

"Porsche has also increased the efficiency of the front-mounted KERS. Although the headline figure for energy boost is 8MJ, that is reduced according to track length for the rest of the WEC season and completely charging the battery has in some places been difficult."

Hopefully this is the case in AC :)

The RSR will not replace the GT3R, because it´s a GTE spec car, and it would be too difficult and expensive to modify it. And the GT3R is competitive car with a competitive driver like Nick Tandy, Earl Bamber & etc. , but Sabine Schmitz is not a competitive driver anymore.

Do you have any proof that she ever was competetive? :D

Yes, Schmitz isn´t that fast (anymore), but no GT3 and GTE have just minor technical differences nowadays and no manufacturer just build GTE-cars from a car-model. They just bring reputation if they are fast enough, no money.

Let´s see the differences between a BMW M6 GT3 and M6 GTLM according to Jens Klingmann. Last one doesn´t have ABS (main difference), less aero due to regulations but softer tyres. Doesn´t sound to difficult for me to switch to GT3-specs. Probably possible within a few laps Le Mans if the software is ready for that.

By the way: There was a Porsche 962-version with ABS and/or sequential gearbox as well adding more weight to the car. The drivers didn´t like it therefor but were forced to use at least one "feature" for development-purpose in the later years and they could choose which one before every race.

Yeah, but you can´t compare the M6 GT3/GTE to the 911 GT3R/RSR, because the M6 GTE is just a upgraded M6 GT3, to compete in the IMSA series, they will develop a complete new GTE car for 2018, so why should they do that, when the technical differences are so slightly, as you said?? And the M6 is only 2 years old then. But the Porsche 911 RSR and GT3R are two completly different cars. And the new GTE regulations(introduced in 2016) allows the new GTE cars to have a lot more downforce and a bit more power(depends on the BoP) than GT3 cars. So if you want to run a Porsche 911 RSR 2017 on the Nordschleife, you have to make it slower, cause a current GTE car is too fast compare to the GT3 cars, then you have to built a complete new aero kit, because you can´t simply put a smaller wing or splitter on it, that will destroy your entire aerodynamical balance and will make the car undrivable.

GT3 cars are built for customers and racing series like VLN, Blancpain etc.
GTE cars are built for manufacter series like WEC, IMSA etc.

So there´s a quite big difference between these cars ;)

So tell me one specific GTE-car which never was developed for the GT3-specs as well!
If the RSR is not embarrassing the next months and good for podium, i bet my ass you will see not just one Porsche-GT3-car next Nürburgring 24h mainly the same than the RSR. The GT3-R isn´t competitive for endurance anymore and the GTE-specs are for testing first before selling to the customers. Other manufactures just choose the opposite way. If the RSR sucks for some reason, Porsche still have their GT3-R to sell and don´t have to admit it´s to old.

Except that the new RSR is mid-engined and AFAIK the GT3-R is still rear-engined.

The GT3-R isn´t competitive
He won 1 VLN round and almost the FIA GT World Cup and 12h Sepang
you will see not just one Porsche-GT3-car next Nürburgring 24h
The GT3R is already on the Nordschleife
GTE-specs are for testing first before selling to the customers
Yeah, but the are going to be sold to WEC and IMSA customers only, and they will run them in AM classes and GTE AM cars have to be at least 1 year old

Aston Martin Vantage GTE; different engine and car as the GT3 one
Corvette C6.R and C7.R
Ford GT GTE
So that should be enough ;)
Aston Martin and Ford just avoid the competition in GT3-class with more balanced BOP and the C7-R is racing in both series. The C6-R is not competitive at all anymore with a very old concept based around a road-car. You can believe that Porsche is slowly stepping down from the GT3-class to find a cosy place in the WEC- and IMSA-series, but as a highend German Sportscar-manufacturer with "GT3" named in so many street-cars they need IMO to keep up to Mercedes, Audi and BMW. Swapping engine for another series is a joke, but developing a completely new car with middle-engine and other new concepts is certainly not just for driving some GTE-races. That´s just ridiculous to even think of it.
